by dropping Newton, I think it shows the coaching staff are perhaps getting ahead of themselves somewhat... would we go 1 out in the ruck if we were playing a stronger team this week? i don't think we would... i hope it doesn't flow through to the players....

Bate will come good. I would hope the forward line would be more like this towards the end of the year:

HF: Petterd Bate Sylvia/Green

F: Jurrah Watts Bennell (or wonna/maric/jetta etc)

Sylvia and Green can rotate through the forwardline and midfield

What needs to be remembered is that the selection commitee know more than all of us, that Newton had the least impact on last week's result of all players, and that they will have considered the Jamar injury issue. Newton is not a ruckman, and Garland or Dunn would do just as good a back-up job. It's all very logical and therefore obvious. My relief is palpable.

Perhaps the club has actually decided to [censored] Richmond with C-L-A-S-S, no matter what size it is. An absence of Newton means more class - it's intrinsically true, true by definition, call it what you like.

If they are going to perform a stunt on Sunday to bring in support for Jamar, don't forget Spencer is still an emergency; I wonder why. I would call him up ahead of Newton, despite Newton's trying hard last week (within his profound limitations). He's a genuine ruckman by height, would not be completely outclassed by a faded and pretty useless Simmons or another youngster, and would allow Jamar to have a good spell up forward to take a few marks. This makes more sense to me than bringing Juice in at the last minute. Spencer needs games and here's an apparently less challenging one for him.

But I don't think Scully will be pulled.

This I'm not sure about. I've never seen either of them ever contest a centre bounce before. Newton wasn't giving us much, but Dunn gives Simmonds and Vickery a lot of height. Should be interesting to see how they go.

MFC must be prepared to withstand the Tigers early. They will come out hard and throw everything they have at us.

agreed RR. I think if we can come out and hit them hard they may wilt. The last 3 weeks we have come out hard but not been able to translate that into scoreboard pressure (the collingwood game was our performance in that regard, but we couldn't been further in front). Against hawthorn we scored lots early but only behinds.

a few goals early might blunt the tigers endeavour. we definitely don't want to let them into the game if we can help it.

dunn has a few hit outs to his name over the years, but they are 3rd man up's.

im not sure if ive ever seen us play so short - tall players are: frawley, warnock, garland, jamar, bate, dunn. everyone else is medium or smaller. interesting set up.

i favour newton over spencer because i think spencer gives a lot in the ruck but not much elsewhere. newton can play forward (even if his contribution forward isn't as great as spencers could be in the ruck), but dare i say it it makes us more flexible.

who is the back up in the ruck if jamar goes down in 5 minutes with a knee? we simply don't have anyone else available to play that position, not even a tall forward who can pinch hit. we may well have the shortest forward line ever.

Like I said, if we thought we needed someone else to ruck, Newton, Spencer or Martin would be playing. The fact that they're not suggests to me that the FD would prefer to take the risk and keep players like Bartram, Dunn, Scully and Bate, who haven't been performing terribly well, but one of whom would have to make way to fit another tall in.

Newton did ok and only ok last week. We had to find an out for Sylvia, maybe Juice was a bit unlucky but thems the breaks.

And I Troy-Taylor-puke-at-the-3km at people suggesting Bartram should be one of the first dropped - we're winning because of relentless effort and he is gold standard for that. Also showing incremental (not outstanding) improvement on his general play and skills.

Bartram this week will love his match ups the way Warnock had a little party last week. With the limited game time that a few of the Richmond kids will play, Bartram could in effect be grinding two Richmond players to dust in one game.

We were at the Crows game last week and that was fine, pies the week before and the pies supporters are hopeless junkies, and round 1 was fine as we were in with the cheer squad.

Might just sit in the southern stand this time as I have noticed that not many people sit there... any reason why (besides the afternoon sun in your face).

I've always found the tiges supporters to be more than reasonable.

They seem to only eat their own.

He was good in the 1st ten mins of the 1st qtr last week but from there he spilled some easy marking opportunities all over the place. His endevour is the best it's been but his inability to hold onto uncontested marks let alone not getting close to taking a pack mark unfortunately are a liability.
