This is what I do. I get my grandfather to by me a Melbourne membership for Christmas. Then I run to and from each game (from Camberwell). I bring food, don't drink beer, and am able to laugh at the comedy I get to witness every week. Total yearly cost: $0

You only pay what you're willing to pay. Of course, others have obligations to take their kids, parents, friends, whatever, so I guess I'm likely to be on my own here.

Not only that, but for $5 you get a 'Record' that fails to acknowledge Brad Johnson's 350th game, and numbers Strauss as 46, not 47.

How they missed Johnson, who's one of the 10 best players of the last decade, is beyond me. And they have the nerve to up the price too.

I thought the same thing when I bought it. I only buy it because I like to quickly look at player numbers of the opposition so I know who is who.

But $5! I remember when it was $2.50 back in the mid-90s. Also, I park opposite the Botanical Gardens in a hospital car-park. Was $5 three years ago. $10 now.

IMO it's an absolute joke of a publication, and I haven't bought it in years. I also used to like it for players numbers, but I have this awesome little device at home called a printer. Job done!

I think train ticket prices are pretty reasonable (especially on a Sunday), particularly when you compare it to parking + petrol + car costs.

I can't remember the last time I bought a drink at the footy, nor the AFL Record.

As someone said, you could always print a team list if you were that keen on identifying the opposition's lesser players.
