I think we will see a strong Melbourne following today, as well as a good noise in the crowd

I`m gonna say 42,156

I hope you are wrong we need 72,000 +

52,981

The 2 clubs combined membership closed at over 82,000 last year. This is the first round, a good day and the only match on in Melbourne. Less than 50,000 is a massive fail.

Ideally I'd like to see 60,000 but that will probably have to wait until next year

We need that? Why?

You know that a figure of 72,000+ would have put this game in the top 10 as far as crowd numbers for a H&A match in 2009, right?

Based on 2009 figures, that's 6K more than Collingwood v Hawthorn, 8K more than Geelong v Hawthorn, 10K more than Melbourne v Collingwood (all at the 'G).

Anything over 55,000 would be a brilliant result, given that the only game in 2009 that was over 55,000 and didn't include one of Collingwood, Essendon or Carlton was the much-anticipated round 17 Geelong v Hawthorn game.

Excluding our games versus Collingwood and Essendon, our biggest crowd in 2009 was under 41K, and that was an away game versus Richmond (39K versus Richmond at 'home').

We need that? Why?

Simple because we need to stop making excuses.

- stop caring about the weather

- stop caring about how we are playing

- stop caring about what ground we are playing at

- stop caring about what day & time we are playing

When your supporters start becoming your problem not the solution - the AFL will punish you.

'We'? All of those apply to every team's supporters (AFL or otherwise).

Regardless, 72,000 is unrealistic.

You damn well better go to every game this year, then. Oh, by the way, have you got your ticket to Darwin yet? After all there are no excuses for not going to a home game . . .

Not everyone is as passionate about Melbourne as us. The key is just to improve the ratio every year. As long as we're improving, we'll one day get there. It's when we go backwards that we are in trouble.

Thats exactly the point chook ... we wouldn't be forced to sell our HOME games to Darwin if people turned up to the MCG.

But "Melbourne Supporters" wont even do that!!!

Personally I hope its enough to hold the fixture. I fear the alternatives much more.

However, if the AFL take it off us we only have ourselves to blame.

Perspective:

Geelong Essendon friday night, 57,000 members.

Pretty happy for 45000, for two teams who didn't make the finals last year. It was also the game that was apparently the most easy to predict for the round. 50k would have been fantastic, but 45 is pretty good.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT----AND SOME ARE NOT JUST KIDDIES but act accodingly. How can someone like Roost it think we can get 32000 members with games like the opening NAB cup game where we performed similar in our opening match against Hawthorn- pathetically. Roost it also thought we should get 82000 odd - endng up going for 52 981 leaving a deficit of 8366- revenue loss @100.00 ea of $83 660.These supporters just have no idea of the pathetic way our team is performing and our football department is just an out right disgrace regarding performance. I know alot get upset with me and my views but most just cannot handle the truth. If they sat down and analysed the coaching panel as such they would then realise how week we really are- how can this club expect much more. And handpassing in the backline or short kicks is a coaching disgrace. I havealso suggested we get a kicking coach- well after this match I think I must have now 28000 odd agreers.

Hangon 007 and Yze Magic are about the only sensible ones...see you in about 6 years time Dees.Sorry DAPPA Dan sometimes

Read my post I never said we would get 82,000 you are delusional. I firmly believed that a crowd of under 50,000 was a failure and I stand by that. The first round disappointed me enough without you misreading another of my posts and then carping on about a revenue loss. I stand by my prediction that we will get 32,000 members. We keep selling memberships until June.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
