Really this is becoming a joke.

He has finally included a Melbourne player - Aaron Davey at #47 and as the only Demon in the top 50.

Seriously, he has Tippet who may be a good player (has had one season and kicked 50 goals) ahead, Paddy Ryder ahead, Mark Murphy! ahead, Craig Bolton at 33.

I would even argue Barry Hall should not be there based on his last season yet he's ahead of Aaron Davey.

What a waste of space.

I think Mike bases his picks on ability rather than last years form which is debatable. It exsplains barry hall and Tippets selection and even stevie J. On that theory Sylvia is unlucky to not slip in somewhere but in reality Davey at 47 is about right for melbourne players.

Based on recent performances, we're lucky to have one player in the top 50.

It's up to our players now to produce the form consistently throughout the season to warrant selection on that sort of a list by the end of the year.

Simple as that.

One too many.

Absolutely. In the past 3 seasons I cant think one of MFC player that would be in the top 50.

And for all the bleating about Sheahan's choice. Its just one person's opinion and he is prepared to put his name to it.

I would have thought Ryder and Tippett would be worthy contenders. Tippett could be special this year. Love him at MFC.

When have we last deserved a Player in the Top 50 of any AFL Poll?

Sure Davey had a good season last year, but he was so far down the back of the field nobody except us Demon supporters took any notice of him.

Over the last 3 years we would have struggled to get a player in the Top 100

No arguement from me.

Rubbish.

Name me the top 150 players of the last 3 seasons.

We won 7 games in 3 years none of our players deserved to be in any top 50 0r top 100 categories.

Sorry if it Hurts 45 i am just being a realist=Davey is a good choice for 2010 as he will probably play closer to goal

But over the last 3 years Nope we don't deserve anything.

You said none of our players would be in the top 100-150 in the comp. Our team winning 12, not 7, does not mean none of our players have been in the top 150 in the comp.

That's just unnecessarily beating ourselves up. Pavlich is in the top 10 or so players of the last decade - how'd his team go.

I'd suggest considering who you would have on your list before you throw lines like that around.

Its irrelevant how many games a team has won. Its about the individual.

Sylvia last year cld have easily made it.

How many great games did he play last year?? Great Games worthy of the Top 50 in the AFL

Col had a top year don't get me wrong, but thats only because the years before that were just not good enough.

Col played some good games for us but i don't think he was top 50 material in the AFL..

The Best Players in this Top 50 are usually from winning sides-Robbie Flower was a notable exception

No you just don;t mark the end of season exam hard enough 45.

Over the past 3 seasons none of our players have deserved to be anywhere near the Top 50 in the AFL.

Pavlich is like Robbie Flower was-an exception to the rule. (sorry it was 12 out of 66 i stand corrected)

Aside from the fact Robbie wasn't playing when Mike started compiling his Top 50 .....Mike had Cox at 13 and Kerr at 19. Hardly a winning side last year? And Le Cras at 49??WTF?? Good player but nowhere near top 50.

You said 150, not 50

Yes i did & i stand by it.

I originally stated Top 100 in my original statement 45, please do not change history for your own arguements.

Considering his size i think Le cras is a gun. Thats what the Top 50 is..The Guns and sadly we have not had any for a long time.

I really hope from now on (now we are about to have State of the Art traing Facilities to use) the MFC demands a very high level of excellence, moreso i hope the players raise their own bar.

le cras kicked 59 goals in that west coast team last year. id go so far as to say hed be in any team in the comp as a medium forward. name me a better one. that would put him in the top 50.

Ah 45, you're at it again. The actual comment from WYL was "Over the last 3 years we would have struggled to get a player in the Top 100-150". In no way he stated your words of "NONE of our players would be in the top 100-150..."

In future, if you are going to quote somebody (especially when you are trying to make yourself sound like the "expert" on this topic), make sure it is 100% accurate.

WYL's top 100-150 is their opinion, just like Sheehan's, just like yours. I too would struggle to fit a Melbourne player in to the top 100 based on the past 3 seasons. How about you inform this forum of your top 100 so we can see what Melbourne players you have ahead of other players.

To give you an idea where I'm coming from, Melbourne wouldn't have a player in the top 20 of Geelong, top 15 of St Kilda or Western Bulldogs, the top 10 of Brisbane and Hawthorn, and the top 5 of Adelaide, Collingwood and Sydney, as well as random players like Pav and Sandilands. Before you know it, there's close to 100 players that I personally rate higher than any Melbourne player. I just hope that if I do a similar breakdown starting from 2011, there will be a lot more Melbourne players in that list - I have no doubt there will be.

This is my opinion, but I'm sure you will manage to read far too much into this and reply with something far from 100% accurate as your recent history shows.

Thanks Billy-My exact reason for the original post. All these clubs players are ahead of ours-OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS thus i don't think we had a player in the top 100 in that time. 2010 season may be different i hope.

Honestly, I think that's about right for Davey. As he was our B&F last year, it's not unreasonable to have the rest of the team rated lower than him. I haven't yet read the list, but I can't complain about it from a Melbourne perspective if this is what we've got. I will be interested in seeing his top 50 at the end of the season though. There's a good chance we'll see a couple of other names in there.

This thread is so embarrassing... I am certainly no Mr.Positivity, and I am under no illusions about where we are at right now, but just a tiny bit of support wouldn't go astray. I know for a fact the players read these sites and geez you lot do very little to inspire them to run out there and get hurt for you. Combine that with the fact half of you can't even be bothered turning up to the matches in the first place and people wonder why our lads can sometimes look a little disinterested and lacking heart. It's a bit of a worry really.

Fancy one of your own supporters saying we don't have a player in the top 150, despite the fact it is blatantly erroneous, why would you post it?

PS. Sylvia was just about the best player in the comp for about a month there, his game against the Hawks would have to be one of the best individual efforts of the year. If we were a top 4 side his name would be all over the pointy end of the brownlow table

Well I've just had a look at the list, and while I maintain that Davey is about right, the list as a whole is a joke. Le Cras at 49? I hope he doesn't put any other small forwards on the list then. And what is Heath Shaw doing in there? Is Sheehan being payed by collingwood to promote their list? Fev in the 40's? Too many incomprehensible calls to list.
