Spoke to Cameron today (me the idiot called him Craig...still embarrassed not sure what got into me) he said Col spoke to him and it would be 2 weeks but the footy Dept thinks 4 weeks. He only broke 1 side.

I have read somewhere that Rivers is no certainty for Round 1. Does anyone know anything about this?

I'm also concerned by the amount of time Davey is taking to get over adductor soreness. From reports he seems to have been sore since before the intra-club match at Casey.

I'm a big Aussie fan, but he did not look fit at all on Saturday. I realise that it's hard to get fit when you're injured all the time but he did not look like an athlete.

I also find it frustrating that players such as Garland and McNamara who have been on the list for a few years haven't bulked up all that much. If they were at any other club they would probably have another five kilograms of muscle.

Davey to me seemed very heavy around the hips and top of legs on the weekend. He was running sluggishly (and I guess just out there for a run).

When he was standing next to Kerr he looked pretty chunky and not at all an 'athlete'. Maybe it was an optical illusion but I remember thinking he looks some way off his best shape.

Just maybe -maybe the football dept is not being as effective as I have indicated many times over the last few months, hey????? and the facilities may not be as good as others thought???

I started this topic to show some positives,,,,,,that many of our players are just around the corner,,,,,,and that our run home in the second half of the season most will be available,,,,, with plenty of pressure for team places.

This is not a grieving place to spread doom & gloom.

Maybe our weights weigh less than other clubs. Maybe it's hard getting fully fit with a torn hamstring. Players like Garland, McNamara, Morton and co. are young and won't reach top playing weight until their mid 20's. Shocking isn't it, having to wait for all this to happen!

Agree.

dee-luded, do you have an approximate on Wonaeamirri yet ?

I spoke to him @ half time, he was a bit sheepish re his reinjuring himself, seemed a little low on confidance, he said he twinged it but didn't seem certain of its degree. He was to get a scan.

I got the impression that it wasn't much of an injury, but rather he felt something, & he was returning to the bench when I think it may have been Garland or someone else looked to have suggested he go up the race to see the Doctor.

this makes me think its not severe but more a dilemma as to why these problems are recurring. Who knows, many young guys don't know how to manage their bodies as a preventative measure to injuries.

I could speculate because Wanna is a big body type, a muscular frame, who puts weight on easily, maybe one like that could lack stretch & flexability in their muscles they've built up in the gym, shortening the muscle body, maybe causing lack of stretch & consequently popping them.

You don't often see endurance athletes with massive muscular frames, but in AFL we ask players to run a mini marathon & at the same time be a sprinter & a weightlifter.

I think it may take some time to figure out how Wanna should manage & maintain his particular body type so he can avoid muscle injuries.

It'll be worth the wait.

Thanks dee-luded.

Whilst I've not in the past had recurring hamstrings problems, I have done a hamstring before and I can understand how much time goes into preparation and managing just during rehabilitation alone. Then there is having the confidence in the body once you start running again. One can't imagine the impact this would have to Wona mentally. There would be a fair degree of doubt about his capacity to overcome this immediate hurdle he faces, again.

Regarding his body type, I believe it is important in order to give your best chance of overcoming this injury and returning to playing to the level required at AFL, by being particular in managing and maintaining his body; playing weight. He would need much assistance and guidance monitoring throughout rehab to return, as I'd imagined he already would have received during prior and after Christmas (when injured last).

These requirements I believe must be met by Aussie for his own sake. Let's all hope he can overcome it.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
