Luke Tapscott

I'm not terribly fussed. Of course the worry is that it could affect him in the long run, but getting it early and with a body his age, hopefully there won't be a problem.

The clear upside to this is the ability to promote a rookie (i.e. McKenzie) in his place.

As far As I know, big Gawn is already on the LTI list, so we could promote two players? Maybe Spencer as well?

Michael Newton lives again

I would think that if we could promote another rookie apart form McKenzie, it would be Hughes.

This would be his last year on the rookie list and so he has to try and prove what he can do at senior level, so that we know whether he is worth placing on our senior list in 2011, or whether he should be let go.

With Newton we already know what we're getting, and lets be honest, placing him on the rookie list was a last resort measure to get around his existing contract and clear spaces for draft picks.

So Tapscott IS injured after all!

I was told he just had to go home for family reasons and that he would be back and firing straightaway.

Probably just a misunderstanding eh?? B)

I strongly doubt they just made up the passing of his grandmother, stupid and mean thing to imply, it was obviously a coincidence

Seems to be a trend with us, drafting promising kids who get banged up early. Gives us something to look forward to in the second half of the season if things are not going to well for us. Having late season debutants is always exciting. I wish him a speedy recovery.

A promotion is a must form the rookie list if Luke is out this long, and Jordie McKenzie is miles ahead of the rest for a call up. Spencer would also be in line given the shortage of talls.

Curry and Beer, where did I imply they made up the story about his grandmother passing?

What I implied was that we were not advised by the club of the continuous reason behind him not training / playing.

The deal re his grandmother was never in doubt in my mind.

Why don't you comment on fact and not perceived inferences? Pathetic post.

If you read and comprehend my post, you will see I said he had to go home and THEN would be back into it!!! This was not the case! He has been injured for some time.

Don't accuse people of being stupid and making mean posts, bud!!!

I just hope people get on to this forum for the right reasons and don't go off at other posters on a personal nature. This may not be the case here, but lets all post footy club stuff, not this other meaningless *&%#$!

While it seems that you were correct, I will say that there's nothing more annoying than someone saying they can confirm something, then not confirming it.

Sorry but I`m not into name dropping and gee, I`m sorry you had to wait 24 hours. If that`s the most annoying thing, your life must be a treat! I did say in a later post he`d be having surgery as early as today, which he did!

Dont let it deter you from sharing the good oil if you have it in the future..

You may have been right, but you still didn't confirm it with anything concrete, as you claimed to with the thread title.

You don't have to be a genius to see that.

i was really looking forward to watching this kid play

now i have to wait even longer dam

cant wait to see this kid in action

Gee, the geeza has a point! Seems like there is a bit of ego being rubbed here. Who gives a rats if he didn't "officially" get his thread title to your liking! As far as I can see, the title name is 100% correct. It's a forum at the end of the day, not the channel 9 news...and it seems Hell Bent hit the nail on the head before they did. Thanks for the update and thanks for sharing.

What about Spencer?

Got a corkie yesterday, but I doubt that'll keep him out for Round 1. With Johnson, Jamar, Gawn, and even Meesen all injured, surely we need Spencer to ruck for us.

There is no way Newton is getting promoted. His being shunted to the rookie list was akin to the club delisting him.

Next time, just don't put the word 'confirmed' in the title of the thread when you don't have any confirmation.

But don't stop posting any inside information you get. Please.

why not Danny Hughes?

Don't know if anyone has already said this, but it is funny that here we have recruited a boy with the body ready to play, but he can't for four months becuase he is injured.

Ironic even.

Just like Judd was left til pick 3 because of dodgy shoulders and Joel Selwood lasted til pick 7 because of bad knees.

Surely we picked him for reasons other than his physique.

But I guess it's a bit ironic.

Apart from being a good mate of Trenners,he is also a thumping kick.

Personally I like the look of this kid.Given a few years,I think he could badly bruise a few oppentents. (another Viney)

If Tapscott is anything like Todd Viney he is worth waiting 6 months for. We have have not had a hard player like Todd Viney since Todd Viney!

I think you're mistaken.....does the name Cam Hunter ring any bells? hahah

?? Cameron HUnter ?? Where did you pull that from?

Let me guess...

Hunter had the build of a matchstick. Tapscott is very solid. That is chalk and cheese.

Hoping he makes a full recovery. But I dont expect him

to do much this year.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
