Good solid squad. With a number of key players unavailable through injury or not selected for other reasons, it's very pleasing to see the depth we are starting to accumulate. Bodes well for the future.

Just to check, 26 players play, 24 and 2 subs and we named 29, for me Bartram, Fitzpatrick and Bell shouldn't play.

Good to see Scully, Trengove, Strauss and Fitzpatrick there, for their first tastes of playing for Melbourne.

Also glad to see McKenzie and Spencer get a game. If PJ's going onto the LTI, one of these two is getting his spot.

One would expect that Fitzpatrick, Bail and Bell would be the ones to miss out.

Interesting that Fitzpatrick is named in the squad though. I was under the impression that he was miles off consideration in 2010 but maybe he's closer than we think?

Looking forward to seeing Trengove, Scully, Jurrah, Strauss, Frawley, Sylvia and Grimes in action. And here's hoping for a big demons win! Can't wait!

Can't wait squad looks good.

I got on the Dees at $3.45 on betfair.

Good to see Silvagni get a gig for Freo.

Jamar I suspect is a precaution being left out.

How many are the clubs allowed on the interchange in the NAB Cup, is it 6 ?

Geez.. a fairly weak line-up on paper. Plus Davey will be lucky to play.. and better not do a hammy, if he does.

Tappy and Gyssy not in the team at all concerns me considering fitzy was, at least named, but doesnt seem as ready.. we know that Tapscott should be.

Great that trenny and scully are playing tho.

Feel privileged that us WA boys will get to see them play 1st! demon_tongue.gif

If we stay competetive and get within 5 goals of this mob, at their home ground with a bunch of newbies -and stay injury-free- l'll be very happy!

EDIT: Pretty sure you get two subs you can make at anytime during the game, but once the trade is done - the person going off can not come back on.

How does this "Subs" business work?

Two players can be subbed off and replaced for th eremainder of the game, sort of like how they do it in soccer.

Pointing out the obvious, naming 48 players really doesn't give a real indication of who will play on Sunday. Its almost every listed player!

I would imagine that Fitzpatrick is a tall option to give Spencer a hand on Sandilands. This is not quite what he was recruited for, but it won't do him any harm.

The big rumour doing the rounds is that Tapscott has a niggle in the hip cartlidge that will need to get cleaned up via an arthroscope. No big deal, but it means that he was never going to be in the squad.

Thanks Stranga!

Especially when there are only 46 players to pick from.

Yeah, thats what i was alluding to..

Point being you think the club would let us know tho.

Just a line about it in one of the many unnecessary Jack Watts articles / MFC twitters would do!

Better yet, mention it in the injury list that just came out!

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.
