Training Today 16/2

I read somewhere, (think it was 'ology a few days ago) that Tapscott had a crack in his hip bone or cartilage..

Havent heard anything since tho.. only about his family situation.

Has anyone thats been to training recently seen him run? Do normal sprints and endurance etc..

Or has it just been tennis-ball stuff the whole time?

Last time i saw him running and training would have been mid Jan I think.

The three sessions I have been to since has been the stationery drills with tennis balls.

Slight change of topic, but what the hell is going on with Daniel Bell?

Every training report I read, Bell has been sub-par. I'm also under the impression that he was a non-entity in the intra-club game last weekend.

Seeing as Bell comes out of contract at the end of the year, you'd think he'd be a star performer on the track and banging down the door for a game this weekend.

Strange.

His running out of time, his not injured as far as i know i saw him play in the intra club and he went virtually unsighted. He showed some promise around 06 (from memory) but has been a fringe player ever since, with all our young recruits training hard and pushing for selection its really hard too see him playing anything more than VFL.

The earlier drills were done at a good level of intensity with the usual suspects standing out for both good and bad. Here is quick run down on some of the individuals:

Bartram: Missed some easy targets in the earlier stuff and was very quick to head to his car which was interesting, until I found out it was his birthday and he was going out.

Watts: Stationary work after a heavy gym session. His reflexes and quick hands were incredible with his mates making his life difficult. No one in that group could work as quickly and accurately. 1 more week....

Bate: Run 200m sprints and worked with the rehab boys. 1-2 weeks

Miller: Missed lots of targets but his workrate and voice cannot be underestimated for such a young team.

Trengove: Looked good. He and Scully left the simulation early to warm down.

Dunn: Apparently pulled up pretty sore. Precautionary.

Petterd: A favourite of mine but he is a butcher by foot. Really disappointed with his field kicking.

Garland: Did everything and to be honest, looked better than expected in the simulation where he played down back.

Bell: Yikes.

Jurrah: Played FF. Kicked a nice goal from a long way out.

Newton: Trained hard but made mistakes. Looks bigger but I am unsure what to expect.

Bruce: Short session for him. Couldn't find out how much longer he will be out. Not moving well.

Wonaeamirri: Like Garlo, did everything. His kicking is a delight to watch. Pretty vocal too which is surprising.

Davey: 60-40 to play this week. Did everything at half pace.

Gawn: I cannot believe how coordinated this kid is. His stationary work was incredible. Seems to be running pretty well too.

Blease: Running well and judging from his attitude and movement is close to coming back. Kicking short kicks on the sidelines with coaches is a step up I believe.

Tapscott: This kid looks a little sad. Walking laps and stationary work.

Some funny updates.... Belly, Gawn and Tappy. Gawn looks coordinated whilst standing still hahahha

I agree totally about Belly, He should be in the top performers at this time of year. He needs his biggest season yet, I was at the game on Saturday and I saw nothing from him that made him stand out, With Cheney, MacDonald, Strauss all trying to get a spot in the back six it is his time to stand up and be counted.

At the intra-club practice match I only noticed Bell was playing because I looked for him.

He may as well have been wearing camouflage.

Not a good game for a player going into a career season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
