Burgan's Phantom Draft

Not necessarily, they've said they're focusing on midfielders

That means nothing really?

If someone like Butcher slipped to 10 they would take him imo.

IMHO ... Essendon will take Melksham.

So you think if they had the choice they would pick Melksham over Butcher?

In saying this Butcher will not slide this far anyway.

Sydney's got a jet in Jessie White in their hands already. Lewis Johnston was another KPP tall they took last year and have all but got Bradshaw.

Funny you should say that ....

White & Johnston ... I'm not convinced Sydney see either as genuine full-forwards.

Bradshaw ... now there is a ready made replacement for Micky O

But again I'm only 50/50 and could be wrong ...

Essendon have been warehousing talls for years ... they dont need anymore.

I agree ... IMHO he is a

50/50 to go to Sydney

then a 95% chance to go to Port if Sydney pass over him.

Emma Quayle in her best 25 players rated Burgan's phantom draft picks as:

Tom Scully 2

Jack Trengove 1

Daniel Talia 13

Max Gawn N/A (but was in Shifter's top 30)

Troy Taylor 15

Liam Patrick N/A

When I first saw Gawn at 18, I thought "What the hell?"

I'm beginning to warm to the idea of selecting Gawn. We need a ruckman, his height is a massive bonus, even if he's not as talented around the ground as other ruckmen, and he could be a bit plus with a couple of years development, particually as he fills out a lot more.

It's a great result for us if that happens.

However, we're still short a few midfielders that we'll pick up in the next year or two.

correct. don't forget jack viney coming through in a few years. the first thing GC and GWS are going to do is sure up their key position stocks, meaning midfielders will get through

Burgan's is a hack, is success rate is around 22% for 2007 & 17% for 2008... Smells like a HACK to me.

Sounds about right.

If we picked up Gawn @ 18, ahead of Tapscott and Bastinac Id be [censored].

Were not that dumb - he'll still be around at 34 if were that keen.

I'm all for us selecting Gawn but it would be far better if we could snare him at 34 instead of 18 (where there will still be some quality runners available).

Just imagine if Gawn developed well over the next 3 or 4 years ... He'll be the next Sandliands-type giant in the AFL, tapping the ball down to Scully, Trengove and co for the next decade.

We'd be unstoppable!

If they pick up a ruckman that's just done his knee at 18 I won't be happy. IMO they have to go for a clearance midfielder at 18 so if it's not Ball they should be going for Stevens he's the best clearance player in the draft gets plenty of the ball and was the captain of Vic Country so he is also a leader.

Happy with the rest but I don't think we will recruit both Taylor and Patrick.

Burgan's picks would be my ideale draft!

Look over picks around 18 mark in previous years... the chance of getting a gun are very low. Going for a highly rated needs based pick is pretty reasonable strategy.

I really want Scully, Trengove, Tahlia and Taylor. Strengthens significantly our midfield and forward-line.

Pick 18 will almost certainly be a ruckman- both Gawn and Vardy seems worthy of pick18.

Pick 50 will probably be a smoky preders has his eye on. Patrick Smith is a perfect smoky. Darwin factor as well.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
