Rhys Healey – Rhys played some really good footy with Casey early in the year. He is a big midfielder, a really good clearance player and is strong over the footy but he had a quad injury for the last 12 weeks of the year. We're really happy with his attitude in the way he goes about his footy but we've just got to get him out there for next year – Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

Presume he'll be re-listed.

That will leave us with 3 rookies - Spencer (interstater Yr 3) ; McKenzie , Healey.

With two veterans , I think we have 6 spots ( Is this right?) I just hope Hughes is moved on - which will leave us with 3 picks

Probably has all the makings of a really good VFL player at present. Nothing to get excited about. Probably fall off the pile end of next season. Doesnt set the world on fire...and notably couldnt get a game this season when they were all but handing them out.

Harsh but realistic

He came into my store the other day. He said that he's staying on the list and hopes to get some senior action next season. Nice guy.

Perhaps because he was injured for the large part of the season. Looked good early might be pushing towards the middle of next season, even a chance in a NAB Cup/Challenge match if he has a strong pre-season.

Perhaps you just posted for the sake of posting. "Harsh but realistic."

well...we'll see. Im not convinced his junior (Pioneers ) ability will translate into AFL. only my opinion granted..lol

Apparently a ball getter..and found it a bit tougher with the big boys.. Thats not to damn him just not all make it.

Hes still on the list as he all but has to be. Still has another year to show his worth. He will find it tougher going to break into the Red and Blue in 2010 than he may have in 09 ( injuries not withstanding )

To be harshly honest, any bloke at any level which struggles to get a taste of footy during the course of the Dees 2008 and 2009 season, does not have much credibility as an AFL footballer...

Hope he proves me wrong

He wasn't on our list in 2008, so it would have been tough for him to get a game then!

From round 12 this season he had a quad injury, so the Dees would have struggled to give him a taste even if they wanted to.

I know nothing about him but it seems premature to put a line through him after one season on the rookie list, half of which he was injured.

*shrug

All the people who are passing judgment on players is funny, half the folks have not seem them play. Its good someone else came to the realization he was in-fact injured. It makes me laugh this time of year how draftees get pumped up and them people think they slid or whatever because they hyped them up so much.

He constantly played well at VFL reserves but obviously due to injury didn't get to put it together long enough in VFL seniors to get a Melbourne call up. But that doesn't neccessarily mean we should write him off, however anything we get with him in terms of him being a player of the future will definitely be a bonus. Is certainly stuck at the end of a que for midfield positions which is about to get longer with Pick 1 and Pick 2 but I'll be watching him and Jordie McKenzie (who I think is a real find) to see what they can offer.

A massive preseason will be the key. Good luck to him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
