I think he will no doubt get a lifeline elsewhere, despite the problems associated with him and his persona.

I'm just disappointed we didn't trade pick 18 and Rivers for him and pick 9 while we had the chance...

He is the most hated man at Hawthorn but given how good he thinks he is I would have liked Clarko to put him in the ruck to break him.

Maybe they'll like him at Fremantle, Melbourne should stay away.

Beau Dowler if available would have been worth looking at.

i know you wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole, but i would be prepared to him get down to do pre-season and see if we can make head or tail of his apparent variety of issue's.

Thorp gained a reputation early at Hawthorn for being smug and 'over confident' in his own abillities.

He got off on the wrong foot with Hawks upon arriving when they realised he hadn't been 'entirely truthfull' about some of his previous medicals conducted.

I have no doubt he will be forced into an early retirement before he hits 28.

I'd be very keen to get hold of Mitch Thorp with a VERY late pick in the National Draft.

Put it this way..... we could get rid of a CERTAIN dud in Newton and bring in an untried key position forward who has been unlucky in being drafted to a club that managed to also pick up 2 of the best forwards in the competition at the same time.

And I'm glad you are not in charge of list management at the club. Thorpe is considered lazy, arrogant, injury prone and a bad pick from the saner Hawks I've spoken to. I wouldn't take him with pick 500.

FFS, we cant do that. It means paying out a contract early and we wont be doing that.

Given we could not get Thorp for free in the draft if we wanted to, I am not sure that Rivers and pick 18 for only pick 9 is that good a deal.

Beau Dowler is an interesting character.

I bet after 2006/2007 99% of Hawthorn supporters would have opted to keen Thorp over Beau.

Thorp had one year to run on his contract but has been plagued by injury, only managing two senior games in his three seasons with the club.

Actually, I'm pretty sure at one stage I was for that trade or something similar... but after a bit of looking into it I changed my mind. Not sure what I posted, if anything - can't remember.

But I was momentarily seduced by the early wraps on Thorp.

It happens to all of us sometimes...

So where does Thorp stand in this draft? He is widely regarded as a top six selection, but invariably in this draft meeting, even players of that ilk can slide - for a number of reasons. He could be snapped up as early as No.4 to the Brisbane Lions, yet he it would be a massive surprise if he lasted any longer than No.12 at Melbourne. The Saints will be waiting to see which player slides through - they will snap up the best available - and expect recruiting manager John Beveridge to do just that with his club's first pick. The Saints will also be eagerly awaiting the outcome of Collingwood's opening selection at No.8 - with Riewoldt strongly linked to both the Magpies and Saints. Don't forget - this was all written before Thorp came clean about his debilitating hip injury to the Hawk medico's.

On talent alone - he was justified in his selection at Pick #6. Had a very good campaign during the Carnival in 2006 (the highlight was probably seeing him KO'd by a left hook from Albert Proud, after he gave Rhan Hooper a cheap shot IIRC).

Mitch Thorp, Tim Walsh and Haydn Kiel have been delisted while third-year rookie Matthew Suckling has been elevated to the senior list.

While Thorp had one year to run on his contract, he has been plagued by injury and has only been able to manage two senior games in his three seasons at the Club.

“Unfortunately, Mitch has been limited by injury in the first three years and as a consequence, has had little opportunity to play senior footy at Hawthorn,” General Manager Player Personnel and Strategy said Chris Pelchen said.

“Mitch requested to be considered for a trade, but unfortunately, this was not able to be achieved during trade week.

“After further consultation with Mitch and his management, we felt it was best for Mitch’s interests to seek a fresh start at another club,” Pelchen said.

Not really sure how push came to shove in this situation. I agree that there has to be more to it than just giving him a fresh start which I wouldn't have thought would wash with the AFL or AFLPA. Having said that, if the whole thing is mutual then who knows what the rules are?

What has this guy done?

If he does have 1 year to go on his contract the Hawks will have to pay him out, or he has breached a clause in his contract.

He can play, either he has stuffed up and broken some club/AFL Rule, has an injury that has ended his AFL Future, rocked up to preseason as big as Stewart Dew or his team mates can't stand him, you don't just delist 195cmyoung KPP that are still in contract.

Whether its mutual or the act of the Club in response to flagrant and continual breaches of contract or Club/AFL standards it does have negative ramifications for the player.

If its a Nathan Carroll type situation or similar, then the guy is a culture sore and problem.

If its a mutual thing, then why did the player (and his manager) just cut up his contract with a Club without anything else set up to go to? It shows a lack of career smarts or advice. If he was at a low value point in his career then surely he would be trying to create some value on his head in his final 12 months.

If he was paid out early, then that's not good for Thorp. Caveat emptor and suggest a pass on this one.
