Demons cut Valenti and Buckley

Featured Replies

Wow, disappointing im a big fan of both these players, its sad to see them go personally id rather keep either one of them and ditch pic 34.

I feel bucks was unlucky but thats the harsh reality of football at its highest level.

Is there any chance we can rookie list any of the delisted players???

I wonder if Valenti will get back to Sandy?

I feel sorry for both of them. Bucks was ok I thought and Valenti always gave it his all. Both unlucky. So with losing Mclean and Valenti id hope we get Ball.

Wait, is Trent Zomer still on our list?

well..at the moment....why ( he is ) is what puzzles me ..

Hasnt he been on rookie 3years

mcnamara n Cheney must b safe

I think it's disgusting that Valenti has been delisted.

No one on our list bar maybe Maloney and Jones is as ferocious at the ball as he is.

We gave him barely any game time and how some people expected him to dominate after giving him a game here and there is a joke.

I think Valenti has so much more going for him than a lot of players on our list that we seem to show faith in and play them week in week out.

All the best for the future Shane.

Any chance we will re-draft him in the PSD? Delist one more, pass on pick 50, then that will give us 2 picks* in the PSD - Ball and Valenti? All depends on what they (coaches, etc) think of Valenti.

* Not sure if that's how it works!

Strange to delist Buckley unless his injury is career threatening.

4 years on the list and still no one really knows if he can play or not.

He is unlucky that there are really lucky players with 2010 contracts but that's life.

1,2,11,18,34 spots freed up. 2 to go?

I'm not at all surprised by the delistings, but it's still disappointing.

I wish both players the best of luck and I hope they both get another chance at other AFL clubs because they both deserve it.

Valenti will not be picked up via the PSD, even if Luke Ball doesn't nominate. Bucks is a chance, however I can see him being picked up late by Carlton in the ND of he nominates, as they are keen on him.

Sad to see bucks go, but Valenti was a step too slow for AFL level and this was coming sadly.

Dees will cut one more.

All delisted players should be disappointed, especially considering Miller got his contract extended.

Nevertheless, I personally think that you can throw a blanket 10-11 players that I wouldn't have any issues with them being delisted due to having horrible foot skills.

I don't understand why anyone would do that, especially since he is a rookie elevation.......

So without trying to show disrespect to Shane here, haven't the coaches just told us what they think of Valenti?

Yep because these guys are exactly the same type of player as Miller, who perform the same function, in the same position in the team......

We are all too sadly and embarrassingly aware of your downright hatred of Brad Miller but seriously you're comparing apple and oranges in terms of team function.

I've never quite understood why you can't compare apples and oranges? Of course you can. You can't compare Zac Dawson and JonoBrown because they play different positions and have different roles? eeeeeerrrrrrr right.

Valenti was a rookie listed player, and so is Zomer, therefore at the moment that frees up 5 draft spots and only 1 rookie, Watch this space I suppose.

Damn, I have been a big fan of Buckley. I really wished he had one more year to prove himself. Bad luck Bucks.

Shane Valenti although tough and desire for the ball couldn't be questioned but with influx of young pacy and hopefully silky skilled midfielders, I think the writing was on the wall. Good luck boys !!

P.S I really hope someone picks up Bucks.

Is #1 at Melbourne cursed. The last descent player to wear it I can remember was Strawbs O'Dwyer.

No Chris Heffernan was not good at Melbourne.

At least with the so called shallow drafts coming up they still have some chance of proving they can cut it and get picked up again by performing in other competitions?? WAFL? SANFL? VFL? Some chance I said - not a great chance!!

Buckley would surely be picked up somewhere, he has a lot going for him and many clubs would be happy to use a late ND pick on him ahead of a raw and 'unlikely' kid.

Valenti certainly has the guts and attitude right, and is good at getting it. We all know his limitations but I'd reckon he'd at least find a spot on another rookie list.

So yeah, all the best to them, but not quite what the Demons needed.

And if they don't get picked up by any other club, well, that hardly is evidence we should have kept them!

There are those that think Valenti and Buckley were unlucky in being delisted

IMO the only thing that didnt help was a few contracted players would have been cut before them

It is a never ending priority to improve your list

Being not good enough is still after all a very good reason your delisted

I've never quite understood why you can't compare apples and oranges? Of course you can. You can't compare Zac Dawson and JonoBrown because they play different positions and have different roles? eeeeeerrrrrrr right.

You can compare them, but it defies logic and is a waste of everyone's time.

Moving on.

So do we take it that we wish to retain Bartram in this case?

Nevertheless, I personally think that you can throw a blanket 10-11 players that I wouldn't have any issues with them being delisted due to having horrible foot skills.

Yeah, Jack Grimes and his Fundamental Flaw...

Just don't tell 45HG16...

Loves the guy. Sh!thouse kick and everything.

One more to go to open up Pick 34 (as well as 1, 2, 11, 18, and PSD1) and it will probably be Batram.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
