There aren't enough 'Smiley' icons on the internet to express how things went with Jurrah's jumper auction.

It got a bit of momentum going, thanks to 'The Fork' and others. In the end not only was the jumper successfully purchased for the Yuendumu community, but the surplus pledges paid to have some representatives come down to accept it at an MFC function, and a few thousand dollars made it's way to the Mt Theo community program as well - the local youth leadership program.

We did good. Thanks for bringing it up so we can bask in our pride some more!

Hopefully the connections built will stay strong and we'll have more of this sort of thing in the years to come.

Hey all, have all the figures together (sorry for the delay!) and here's the story:

donations received: $5946.87 !!

costs:

$3000.00 - final auction price

$350 - buyers premium

$1066 - airfares (Cecily Granites and Susie Low)

$180 - accommodation

$450 - tickets for The Long Journey for Liam's family x 6 (wife Shajira, Bruce, Rhea & Alex Hearne-McKinnon, Cecily's grand-daughter Naomi, Liam Campbell)

$0 - superb framing, with a plaque acknowledging Demonland and Demonology, courtesy of Joeboy!

Total: $5046

We now have $900.87 to buy footy equipment. Happy days! The jumper is now back 'home', ready for unveiling late October when Mt Theo moves into a new office. We are all in excitement mode - the Warlpiri Wizard comes home tomorrow, can't tell you how many young fellas are in the office every day just waiting, waiting...

In other news, I was really chuffed to be invited to the Presidents lunch for the Demons final game at the MCG this season, paid for by your club. A day of highlights for me - first game at the MCG, first 'official' game I had watched Liam play with the big boys, sitting between Ron Barrassi and Dipper... does it get any better? Oh yes, the four magnificant goals Liam kicked, those he set up, and his ability to be just about anywhere he was needed. And let me tell you, even Mr Barrassi thought we could have won that game if Liam had been left to fly :-)

So now we have a couple of quiet weeks with Liam hanging out at the office, going hunting, talking story with family, and clearly he'll have an ever present entourage of young hopefuls. Heroes are important to everyone I guess, but especially out here. And you mob are probably quite unique in that you understand that, and have given us such a wonderful gift. One that will continue to inspire, for many many years.

Cheers

Nice one Nangal,

That must have been an amazing experience for you. I have been going to the G for 40 years and I still worship it every time I see it. To watch your mate play on that ground sitting with Barass is just a great story!

I can only imagine the excitement that your community must be feeling with LJ coming home. This bloke has lit up the imaginations of us loyal Demons and we are just loving watching his progress and enjoying every moment he is on the field. I have not heard our crowd erupt like it does when he goes near the ball since jeff farmer was on fire.

He is an inspiration and I can`t wait to see him running around the G with the premiership cup in his hands in 3 or 4 years time!

Thanks for the Nangal. My thoughts were the same as Ron's tbh. But we'll never know. Good to see $900.87 left over for footy equipment.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
