ROBBO IS ALL CLASS !!!

i would have to say that "ROBBO'S" FAREWELL SPEECH TO THE PLAYERS was the most endearing and tear jerking farewell speech i have ever heard.

especially from a melb. player.

he has covered himself with dignity and class with a capital "C" ..

With a lump in his throat and a tare in his heart he was able to put his club first and

show what a real brother in arms means.

even garyy lyon shed a tear.

speaking like a true "anzac" rather than an a football player.

stating he's got their back and would be there for them.showed what it has meant to him..

i hope the younger players there can take head and epitomise half as much heart and soul as he has shown.

to put their best on show every game !!and understand their time in this game is fleeting and take the opportunity they have been given.!!!

we'll miss you "ROBBO" and finish with style !!!

War reference?

Really?

Stirring speech to be sure and I have already said my bit in the other thread but fuschia...

Diggers they ain't.

Robbo is an absolute certainty to enter the media, and have a good couple of years...

The way he handled his goodoil interview was quite amazing. He has a tendency to ramble when emotional, but glass houses and all that.

I'm not his biggest fan, but he spoke beautifully on FOX Sports last night. Very professional and I hope that he feels welcome at the MFC, once his playing days are over.

I have not seen either the FOX Sports interview or the vision of his speech to the players but I am assuming they were better than his actual press conference. For someone who wants to join the media his press conference was an incoherent mix of cliches. Granted he was emotional but the only thing I thought that was missing was referencing himself in the third person.

Similar to when Schwartz did the same your farewell speech to your playing group I would think would be personal and not something you would want aired to the greater public.

I bloody love Robbo. I have a tear in my eye thinking about how his career at the MFC is coming to an end.

My all time favourite player.

Can someone put his farewell speech on youtube and paste a link to it - I, for one, would be most grateful.

Pity ch 9 put that bloody music under the speech though. Should have been clean.

But Good words champ. Life long Friends....

What was wrong with the music?

What was wrong with the music?

Changes peoples emotions without even knowing it. i have made films, music can do so much even at low levels.

should have been a clean slate.

I agree 100%.

The raw emotion is a lot more powerful than something that feels like its been 'produced'.

Although, I'm sure that's exactly what was done.

Fwiw, I thought it was quite suitable for the occassion.

Yeah, as a filmmaker myself, I find those type of cliches give me the shits. Pull at the heart strings with some strings...oldest trick in the book.

Yeah, the music definitely added a whole new level of emotion to it. But that's because we are never going to be anywhere near as emotional as Robbo or his teammates would be. The music put us close to their level of emotion, which is good I think.

I was listening on SEN and i was surprised to hear how many people criticised him for what he said and how he did it on TV. But i think had Ch9 left it without the hammy music it would've felt real, with the music it felt like a speech from a cheesy Hollywood sports movie.

Personally i was moved by his words, and i think he was sincere in everything he said. This is usually something that is said behind closed doors, i'm glad we were given a chance to see him farewell the club that has been his home for so long in his own special way. Makes me miss him already!

Probably not the best thing to say, but next week i just hope he goes for hangers, whats to lose, i want him a mark of the year!

Going out with a bang he is.

And good to see him finally standing up against some quality opponents... :D

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
