Sorry NJ, but to think that fringe players in the 16th best team in the league can just be magically traded away to some poor sucker club is highly optimistic.

Well a few different footy shows have mentioned that Sydney are interested in Miller. That's one trade that might happen.

I still think we might get a late pick for Newton from one of the clubs desperate for marking targets.

Very surprised at the McDonald result. He must stay in my opinion. He is playing well enough and he is the perfect example I want the younger guys to be looking up to. I would be very surprised and somewhat dissappointed if he was to go.

Yes, finally.

I agree, McDonald's form warrants another year without even mentioning the things he does in regards to off-field, leadership etc.

Yze Magic was used as an extreme example, but I still know there are people out there that think Bruce's time at the MFC should be up so I thought it would be interesting to name him...example? 11 people so far have voted "go" next to his name.

104 STAY, 11 go, wow! That's a close call for Bruce! BTW your poll had some interesting results. Like a few others, I don't believe junior should hang up his boots just yet but obviously the majority of voters don't agree and that's fair enough.

Where is YM BTW? Has he been suspended yet again?

The present situation the club is in on ruck stocks i am surprised so many voted to delist Spencer

Delisting players without looking at the big picture is often a bad decision

11 supporters wanting to delist last years best and fairest and 40 supporters wanting Newton to stay is surely a joke ?

And based on our not-very-extensive activity in recent trade weeks it is hard to imagine that we will be trading anyone. And in the last uncompromised draft the only clubs that will be trading away their picks will be the teams that will be challenging for a flag in the next 2-3 years; can you imagine Adelaide/Bulldogs/Collingwood seeing any value in PJ/Bell/Newton/Meesen etc?

So for this thread to be of most benefit it should only include those who are uncontracted for next season as it is very likely that they will be the only ones that we can use to free up space for new draftees.

Agree.

I cant believe anyone can think we can go into next year with two chronically injured rucks and one player that cant ruck.

The big picture is 5 to 6 will go to accommodate pick 1,2,18, 34 and elevation of Spencer and the McKenzie/Valenti. We have three players retiring at year end we need to find 3 more players to go.

40 supporters ralise that he is contracted and wont get a trade.

The ejection of Bruce is amazing. Given we have lost so much experience we will trade our reigning B& F winner who might easily win it again this year. Any chance of a plausible trade deal. Laughable.

Over past seasons I would have voted for Bruce to go, but he has started giving more this year, putting his head over the ball more often, and winning more ball, as well as the receiving ball, off the back pocket.

Agree.

What is amazing about 12 Bruce bashers wanting him out ( I reckon I could just about name them all) and 118 wanting him to stay? 12 out of 130 voters is hardly a rejection. There are always going to be posters who are not too clued up on what makes a truly good player.

nothing is that amazing at all? I just thought that it would be interesting to name him and see what happened...

btw, dunn at this stage has been more popular than bruce...would never have seen that coming a couple of months ago

BUMP

I wish we could move past the ridiculous notion that contracted players can or will be delisted. You can scratch Bell, Bruce, Dunn, PJ, Meesen and Newton off your list.

It's a pretty poor list as many of them are contracted, one has been told that he will no longer be on the list next year, one (Bruce) even if uncontracted would be kept on because he would move onto the Veteran's list and at my count 2 (Valenti, Spencer) of the rookies must now either be promoted or let go.

are you sure?

BUMP

are you sure?

The rule changed recently Nugget. The comments were valid at the time.

I hate it when posters are completely self-gratifying.

Yes, I am sure they are both contracted (as stated by Harrington today) and they're actually not going anywhere as, unless picked up by someone else, they will still be at the MFC. As far as I'm aware this has only come about because of a rule change which took place after this thread had run its course.

Bad bump, free kick.

The rule changed under our feet, and although it's a minor change, it serves to validate this 'demotion with contract maintenance' nonsense.

What an awful bump.

That's got to be worth a few weeks....

Don't want to be too mean either, but the fact that people keep voting even now only strengthens my belief that people do not think very much before casting their vote in polls.

That's very interesting looking at the JMac Figures in here.

Most want him gone, let alone captain..I Hope the Club is making the right decision.

I Love Junior but i hope he can keep up with next years game.

As Captain he Must play well, & not just make up numbers.

If you play well next year junior you will be remembered as a true Legend of the Club.

Yes. I agree with that in relation this poll.

Polls need a timer on them. After a certain period (I don't know, a fortnight?) they should close. That way when we get horrible bumps like this one, we don't get some 4 month old poll hanging around for another week.

I'm sure he will play well

Junior's role has been well discussed on several threads - and the debate has completely overtaken these initial views. The fact that these dated results are shown without challenge is a very good reason for the moderators to kill off this thread

You got Junior his extension and burned Robbo. Your mate Nat Jones needs to step up. Junior has no place at the Ds if we get Luke Ball. You're trying to take over Demonland now! Rhino Richards is the boss of Demonland.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
