It's Caro's article, she must be spitting chips having to print Vlad's very reasoned & intelligent defence of his non-tanking stance, particularly as it applies to Melbourne. She seemed ready to hang draw & quarter DB on Monday night, kept talking loudly over the top of Garry Lyon when he was trying to say something sensible, was obviously peed off at the Dees' moral victory over her beloved Toigs. Watch for the Caro backstab article (vilifying Vlad by twisting his words without giving him chance of reply) in the next few days - she's not going to like being made to look so stupid. You'd think she'd be used to it by now.

Here it is!

Also reported in "The Age"

Essentially Demetrio gives full support for "list management" and says Melbourne "deserves" a PP!!!

Other interestingf quotes:

Schwab:

‘‘Our club’s very much about list management and experimentation with the team. It has been for much of the season but suddenly it’s become tanking. My concern with Andrew is that we are being heavily scrutinised for this but we are determined to continue on this path. He was very supportive.’’

Demetriou:

‘‘I discussed the game with Cameron and agreed with him that some of the conjecture and commentary has been absolutely disgraceful,’’ Demetriou said.

Essentially Demetrio gave us the green light to continue "list management" and Schwab said we have been at it all season and will continue to "experiment" for the last four games.

Great news!!1

Of course we've been doing it all season (and last) and of course it would be fine if Hawthorn "put the cue in the rack" according to all journos.

Hypocrites.

Expect another weak team to be selected this week. Expect more experimental player positional placements. Expect another round of media tank talk next week.

But it will be like water off a ducks back to the MFC.

MFC will continue to "experiment and list manage" and wont care what the public or media says!!

Full marks to the FD.

And AD who goes up in my estimation - very sound reasonable bloke right now

He's a snake and he's a master of spin.

True, but who cares as long as the spin is to our benefit.... Surely it is reassuring to the playing group that the AFL are backing our FD's decisions, hopefully this reasoning means they understand and keep the faith. Mind you, Jonesy made the Warnock to full forward comment mid week, so the players must've known going into the game what we were going to do, they'd obviously trained with these moves in mind and it didn't appear to affect their desire to win on the day

That alone should shut up those supporters who think we should win meaningless games and cut off our nose despite our face

Agreed.

And he makes himself look like a goose with this comment :

Demetriou defended a number of the moves made by coach Dean Bailey and his team before and during the game to The Age, including Paul Johnson lining up for much of the second half on Nathan Brown.

‘‘Leigh Brown played on Jonathan Brown the previous night. No one made a big deal out of that. Was that tanking?’’ he said.

Is he taking the p!ss???? Comparing Leigh Brown on Johnno Brown after Presti went off injured to Paul Johnson on Nathan Brown just makes him, and his arguement that tanking doesn't exist, look ridiculous.

I was going to post the same thing. Ridiculous comparison.

It doesn't matter anyway. Whether or not tanking exists, and what Demetriou thinks about it, should be ignored. The mere fact that people talk about it should be enough to make the AFL do something.

I think Demetriou is more than comfortable with ppl thinking he's an idiot, in fact I think he'd prefer we are talking about him being a moron and avoiding the issue than for the football public to accuse a specific club like MFC or WCE of tanking.

I think he makes an effort to absorb some of the angst that would otherwise be directed at the Dees.

Then again, its very possible I'm giving the man far too much credit...

Its about time he stood up for us...

I don't know whether it was quite necessary for him to defend the P. Johnson on N. Brown move though...

Still, the vultures will be circling round Etihad come Sunday no doubt...

I am not sure us getting the "support" from Vlad is really that good a deal for us.....

I mean seriously the guy is existing in a self made land of ego induced non-reality and yet supports us in our "experimenting"?

Maybe he just bought Bailey's argument, which just makes him (and probably Dean) sound even sillier.

Although at the end of the day it doesn't matter, you do what you have to for the betterment of the club, and this is unfortunately it for us.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
