Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Not good enough to win 5 games

Recommended Posts

I firmly believe West Coast will win just 1 more game for the rest of the year - probably against Richmond in round 22. How can they overlook the opportunity of getting two top 5 picks.

And Melbourne will not win 5 games. Surely Bailey and the football department will realise that winning a 5th game would be counter-productive to the future - ie missing out on Scully & Butcher. Plus we're not good enough.

If I had a dollar for every time someone says we'll win, I'd be stinking rich.

No chance V's Essendon. Their pace will be too much for us. But the game should be a lot closer than last week!

Now that Ryder is cleared. I think Essendon may just get over the top a dee-termined Dees outfit, who are absolutely seething with their opening quarter against the filth.

we have struggled the last few weeks getting closed down by hawthorn and collingwood. we prefer a more free flowing game and that is what essendon does, so i think we will go very close.

on butcher, i read somewhere he had, i think, 19 possessions on the weekend but kicked 2 goals and 4 or 5 behinds.

Ok I just need to clear something up.

If we win 4 games or less, which we will, but richmond finish on the bottom what picks do we get?

We need Mids its pretty simple. I think delivery and getting the ball inside our 50 is more important. We will have enough tallent in our forward line to kick

goals and win matches if the ball im coming in often and effectively.

ATM Scully should be our first pick. Things change pretty quickly in u18's but atm its definantly Scully.

Not yet convinced about butcher.

Hey Mr Morton,

If we finish with less than 4 wins and Richmond take out the wooden spoon we will still get pick one.

The same thing happened in 2007 where the Tigers were on the bottom but Carltank snatched pick one.

Scully must definitely be top of the priority list but I think with the likes of Blease, Strauss, Grimes and co that Big Butcher should be our next target.

Still a long way off though.

If we fail to win 5 games, but Richmond come last we will get pick 1 (priority) and pick 3. Richmond would also get a priority pick at the end of the first round (about pick 18). You need to not win 5 games two years in a row to get a priority pick before pick 1.

We also need to watch the West Coke as they failed to win 5 games last year. Thus if they fail to win 5 games again they will also get a priority pick before pick 1 like us. The West Coke tanked big time last season, they are certainly have a far better list than us and are good enough to win 5 games. They play Richmond twice, Melbourne @ MCG, Freo @ Subi, and North @ Subi. Thats 5 winable games of which they need to win 2 to eliminate them from a Priority Pick. If they beat Richmond on Friday they should win 5.

cheers, well I'm pretty certain we wont win more than 4 games. DB will make sure of that, although he might not need to if you get me.

THis is how it will go I think

Essendon- lose

Brisbane- lose

West Coast- Win

Port- Lose

Geelong- lose

Sydney- Lose

Richmond-Win

North Melbourne- Lose

Fremantle- Win

Carlton- Lose

StKilda- Lose

So we CAN NOT AFFORD to beat Essendon, Brisbane, Port, Geelong, Sydney, North Melbourne, Fremantle, Carlton or Stkilda OTHERWISE GOODBYE PRIORITY PICK. so be careful what you wish for when you say 'oh i just want to win this week then lose the other'.

THERE IS NO WAY WE ARE GOING TO LOSE TO WEST COAST, RICHMOND OR FREMANTE AT THE MCG. so we are currently sitting on 4 wins essentially

We might lose one of these games. Its not just luck that WC and fremantle have one a few more games than us.

Call me crazy but i think we will beat the bombers next round.

After sitting thru Mondays's rubbish, I can't see us winning another game this year. I feel we might witness a second half of the season slump, with competitveness lost & some almighty beltings of over 100 points a regular occurrence.

I'm done with being excited this year. Looking forward to 2010.

4 games, or less. Not more than 16 premiership points.

That would allow us to get a priority pick, prior to Round 1.

If, Richmond finish last, & West Coast win more than 16.5 points, ?/= (4wins + a draw) (putting W/C out of priority pick range),,,

then the DEES would have Pick 1, followed by Richmond pick 2, followed by the DEES with pick 3.

If I had my way, & could influence the outcomes, (God allmighty) then I would > :-

Brisbane- lose

West Coast- Lose

North Melbourne- Win

Fremantle- Lose

This is my preferred outcome to improve our draft selections, including our 2nd Rounder.

IMO we will only win 2 or at least have the chance of.

And its the two Perth teams playing them at the G wen could easily win the m both.

I dont think we will beat the tiges for the second time, and with port well there to hot and cold to tell. Given they play at least reasonable footy they should win.

Want to know whats really amusing about this topic? The replies. Sylvia was taken at pick 3 right? Yet when someone is bagging him and stating that he was picked at #3 therefore he should be better, people jump on them (many that have replied in this topic to go for the PP) and state it doesn't matter what # pick you are, so tell me, what does it matter if we get one and two PP, if it doesn't matter?

Yes you don't have to have a back-up plan but drafts are a roll of the dice anyway.

we aren't talking pick 3 here..we are talking pick 1 mate.

riewoldt, hodge, gibbs, murphy, kruezer, cooney, deledio

Hardly a lottery

Without Hodge, I dont think hawthorn would have beaten Geelong in the grand final. Just shows you that 1 pick could make all the difference between winning a flag and not winning a flag. Not to mention hawthorns last priority pick duo in franklin and roughead. Imagine hawthorn without one of them. They would not be half the side

What a crock, luck is all it is.

disagree-

Sure, some luck is involved. E.g. Robbie Tarrant first round pick and 4 shoulder reconstructions, Judd apparently dodgy shoulders but is number 1 player in afl....

HOWEVER, very naive to believe 'luck is all it is

We need to start winning the games we should and the 5 mentioned are games we should, I don't care about priority picks I want to start winning.

We need to start winning games next year. Winning games this year is just a waste of time especially beating the likes of Richmond, North, Port, Freo and West Coast at home.Don't you remember 2007 it was a disaster beating Carlton surely we don't want to go through that again. Competitve losses will do me, not beating crap teams.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
