Changes against the Hawks

Featured Replies

Cheney and Whelan keep their spots, obviously. We need Rivers back in. I assume Moloney is fine, he's a tough bastard. Sooooo . . . it comes back to Mr Fixit.

OUT: Dumm

IN: Rivers

If Green, Bennell want to come back in well they can't, who do we drop? Possibly Petterd for Green.

Another pathetic post.....you're on a role.

speak your mind and stop writing pathetic replies. you were obviously not at the game yesterday..

In: Green, Bennell, Rivers

Out: Petterd, Cheney, Dunn

Bailey never drops players after one game, let alone one good game.

I agree but Green and Rivers are definite in's and Bennell was only rested. He will not come back through Casey and I cannot see the other options.

In: Bennel/Green

Out: Dunn

Guys whats wrong with petterd? is he injured? why have so many have him in there outs, you cant be seroiusly dropping him due to his form.

bartram is a spud x 2 which makes him a dud. he lacks skill and awareness reminds me of godfrey who was just as bad. bartram should be playing in the casey reserves. he was bordering on shocking and shithouse today.

Absolutely spot on, surely the coaches can see this and its a matter of time before Bennel replaces him.

No way Cheney will get dropped.

IN:Green, Bennel

Out: Batram, Dunn

Yeah its unfortunate cuz the kid is a real competitive beast, throws himself at the ball, but much like godfrey his disposal lets him down. I guess this is where the difference is between clubs like melbourne and geelong/hawthorn. Their "taggers" like Ling and Sewell are also exceptional ball users. Who is the player for the dees that will stand up and play this role?

I thought our Forward line struggled yesterday, Robbo while he kicked 3, 2 were from average free kicks. Bate was better yesterday. But we need another target. So maybe Newton gets another crack. We had truck loads of the footy but couldn't hold a mark ni the forward 50.

If we play valenti again he needs a position. was played forward and that's just not his go.

Also went to the aftermatch function and spoke to Beamer, who btw is a great bloke and he didn't mention any injury. So not totally sure that is true but i maybe wrong.

The only certainty to be dropped is Dunn. He is a waste of space. Bennell should return.

Any other changes should be made based on availability. Not sure if Green or Rivers will be right to play this week. If they are, then Petterd may well come under scrutiny. He just doesn't seem to get anywhere near enough of the ball. I personally think he's been played out of position for a lot of this year, but if it came down to dropping someone, then Petterd probably heads the list.

And we have got to look at bringing another ruckman in. Jamar won't be right this week (will he?), so Spencer should be in line for a recall. We're playing Hawthorn, which means we're going to need Martin down back to play on Franklin/Roughead, especially if Rivers doesn't play.

Edit: Spencer probably won't be right, so hopefully Jamar is.

I'm one of the non-believers when it comes to Valenti. I saw nothing today to make me change my mind on his future.

That said I'd be disappointed if he got the chop this week. If they're not going to give him a genuine opportunity to stamp his spot on the list then there was no point playing him today. As I said in the delistings thread, give the fringe youngsters a real chance or don't bother at all.

I'm the same. What I saw of Valenti yesterday did nothing to make me think he's going to be retained into 2010. But I'd rather see him getting a game over the likes of Dunn, Bell and Newton, who we've seen enough of now to know that they aren't our future.

In: Green, Bennell, Rivers

Out: Petterd, Cheney, Dunn

No way Cheney will get dropped. If you're desperate to find a gap and you're prepared to drop someone after one game, you should be looking at Valenti. But neither should go.

Changes i'd like to see.

OUT: Dunn, Petterd

IN: Bennell, Rivers

Petterd got absolutely pantsed yesterday. I'd like to see him go back to Casey and find a bit of consistency. The gulf between his good games and bad games at AFL level is just huge at the moment.

Dunn, well, i've seen enough of Dunn. Consistently dissappointing.

Bennell should come in after his rest, and hopefully Rivers can come up from his ankle injury. If Rivers doesn't come up, and McNamara has another good showing today for Casey, would be nice to see him get a run.

Not sure about Green. I'd love to see him back, but from the sounds of it, his injury was quite serious. Wouldn't mind seeing the club take a 'softly softly' approach with him. He's just too important to risk by playing a week or two earlier than he should, just for the sake of it. I understand he'll be itching to get back out there, hence his comments about being ready, but i think the club should step in and not leave the decision 100% to himself (a la Geelong with Ablett).

Selection is gonna be very difficult this week. I`m certainly sure Rivers(if fit) and Bennell will be in contension to play and Jamar could play as well as maybe Green. so who would you take out? Moloney if injuried. But although besides that theres ready no one who derserves to be dropped.

Tough week for selection with the likely return of Green and Rivers, not to mention Bennell.

As it stands, Dunn is pushing his luck and could well be back at Casey next week. Petterd is another in the spotlight. Not sure what is up with Ricky, he could be carrying an injury, but he is definately out of sorts. Not sure if he is being played in his best position. Might do with a run at Casey to find some form.

Valenti will play again. Bailey said he will give him another week or two to show what he can do. In the longterm I don't see Valenti being in the mix for our best 22, but it is only fair and sensible that the club give him a chance before putting a line through him. He's got plenty of ticker and Bailey obviously likes him. So we'll see.

So I will say,

IN - Rivers, Bennell.

OUT - Dunn, Petterd.

If Green is fit to play there will be an unlucky player to miss.

When can we expect to see Frawley back?

I wouldn't drop Dunn, but I think he's a pretty good chance to get rubbed out this week...

Out: Dunn (susp.), Petterd

In: Green, Rivers

What a hypocrite?!

Batram made some awful mistakes, but he's 21, and mistakes were made by Maric, Grimes, Morton, Petterd, Valenti, Martin, (seeing a pattern here).

Kids make mistakes.

In: Bennell, Jetta, Green

Out: Dunn, Petterd, Maric

We have to bring in a second ruckman this week, Jamar played at Casey Yesterday and will come in. We need Martin down back playing on Roughead, he is to tall for Rivers and as per Rivers against Mooney would kill Riv on the lead. If Rivers is fit we needs to come in to play the zoning defender that he does so well, Martin and Warnock will need help against Buddy and Roughead.

Out Dunn, ?I need an injury

In Jamar, Rivers(if Fit)

Possible ins for me depending on fitness etc

Jamar, Jetta, Bennell, Green

Possible outs...

Dunn, Petterd

Switch and match where you please but they are the only possibilities in my opinion...

In: Bennell, Jetta, Green

Out: Dunn, Petterd, Maric

I dunno about Maric. It's a bit of a conundrum for me. On the one hand, I think there's a lot of potential in him. But on the other hand, he's shown very little in his 3 matches to date. I think I'm placing too much value on my expectations of him and not enough on what he's actually doing.

Lets face it.... He was never going to live up to the hype that Demonlands finest gave him.

In reality he hasn't done much but is showing he has tremedous skills on a few occasions.

Persist with him for another 2 weeks id say.

As far as impact goes he probably isn't at Jetta's level right now.

But he skills are better than Jetta's so he fits the game plan better.

Both these kids need to be rotated, I think right now they are sharing Wona's role until he is back. But it's a really good chance to see what they have got. Especially Jetta who is more of a midfielder than a forward.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
