A Touching Little Article..

i read this on demonology and thought it was a very touching.. a loke by the name of redlegger posted this.. to think we have gone through hell last year well this bloke has been through all..

Dear Norm:

In a couple of weeks I start my 31st consecutive year as a Deez member. I was a regular attendee before that too. Where have all those years gone?

- When Ian Ridley was coach I remember the members getting a letter from the club encouraging us all to cheer louder, because our goals were being greeted with silence. Seriously! Can you believe that today??

- When Bob Skilton was coach I sat on the ground and cried at Victoria

Park after the last game of '76 because we'd missed the finals by half a game.

- I wanted to leave Waverley early the day that Fitzroy kicked a then record score against us - but my brother said that it'd make us appreciate the wins more if we sat through losses like that. I stayed but still dunno about his theory.

- I saw us make the foolish mistake of breaking away from the MCC. We've heard nothing but I really hope we correct that mistake soon.

- I saw Barassi's 5 year plan.

- I saw John Northey genuinely save our club, and I saw him turn us into winners: night flags, a day grand final.

- I saw the '87 prelim. Nuff said.

- I saw Daniher get more out of the side than it actually had, and I saw him hold together a deeply divided club.

- I saw the catastrophe of '96, and people of good will on both sides doing what they genuinely believed was best for the club, and I saw the years of division and acrimony that followed. I saw the Hawks unite straight after that, and I saw how it suited their marketing purposes to paint us as the villains, while we turned on each other... and stayed divided.

- I saw us continue to sink and lose hope.

Then an Irishman put his hand up to have a go at turning this iceberg around.

- I saw us "bottom out" last year and get hiding after hiding.

But Norm.... I've signed up for my 31st consecutive year, because I see the basis of hope. A long road back, but we're making all the right noises.

Mind you Norm, I guess I'd have rejoined anyway.

I started Supporting the Demons when Ian Ridley was Coach aswell. I Remember all those points only too well.

I bought my membership last september at the time i paid the MCC Subscription.

We are Going to win Flags again & i want to see it. I Hope that Jim Stynes is President for at least one of them.

If Jim had not put the hand up last year to be the President we would probably be Run by the AFL by now against the Wall.

Hang in there all, we will Rise.

I guess it would have been fair to say that I have been a follower more than a supporter. My following of the team goes back to the days of Barassi when my Mum thought he was "it". As a resident in Tasmania with limited funds and no hope of attending games I could never convince myself to part with my hard earned funds. That is until 5 years ago that I decided I had better put my money where my mouth is and get aboard. But better than that I can proudly boast that my two children are both one-eyed Dees. Even better is that my son resides in Melbourne and is a Trident member. Added to that is that his American flatmate is also a Trident due totally to my son's influence. Even have the wife signed up. It is with pride that I wear my colours, either tie, jacket, or one of several shirts.

We have been to Hell and back but I have this great belief that in three years time we will be at the G for that one day in September and I can tell you, come Hell or high water my son and I will be there to see us once again be victorious.

Should you wonber about my post name just think of a couple of brothers from Devonport in Tassie, who have given years to this great club of ours.
