I reckon that's harsh. One of his strengths was his ability with the "non-preferred"....left...foot, as well as a powerful right foot.

He kicked long, and he was a good kick for goal. He often broke clear, had a few bounces and roosted it into the forward line, catching the defence out. But sheer guts were his main forte. Guts and strength, inspiring his team-mates.

I agree with "Swampfox", rating him with Dixon, Flower and Bluey Adams.

Both big units.... Both had similar running style games.... Both loved to bomb it into the F50..... But Stinga had a lot more muscle definition!! HaHa.... Beamer is bigger, but Stinga was obviously a bigger fan of HydroxyCut :D

No.

One was an outstanding line breaking midfielder that was cut down by injury. The other is an average footballer, limited thinking under pressure and poor defensive skills.

He took one of the bravest, most skilful marks you could ever see running full tilt with the flight of the ball. It was against the Crows in Adelaide & is indelibly stamped in my memory. It summed up just how good his best was.

I remember a great mark of Tingay's on the intro movie of the game 'AFL 98'.

I'm not sure if it's the same one, but it was as you described it.

Kicked the winning goal in his first game i seem to remember. Round 1 1989 against Fitzroy. Stinga was great. When He fired the Club Fired.

Yes I remember that game too. Built like a pencil with one of the great mullets of the 80`s. And yes, I remember that mark he took in Adelaide. There were not many braver players running around than Stingray in the entire league let alone at Melbourne. He and G. Lovett were two hard nuts that finished footy far too early and we missed them both dearly.

I was obsessed with stinga as a youngster. Him and Rod Grinter are my favourite ever Melbourne players. Both hard and tough and with all the qualities that I want in our team today. My current favourite player is, not surprisingly... Brock Mclean.

Yeah, me too. You would have liked Viney's tough in and under and get dirty style play too. He set the tenacity in the centre. Especially in 1998. He led from the front in the middle. Didn't have the class or the foot skills like the best of today- or even back then, but his strength in the packs he had it in spades.
