We have a new board in place and despite the fact that we're supposed to be democratic, I think Jim's board has to be given time to turn things around. I suppose an election would also be costly in terms of money and time - two scarce resources at the club.

It's not about being democratic, it's about following the rules set out in the MFC 'constitution'. Jim doesn't have a choice. He can't say 'We are not going to stand for re-election because we feel we deserve it', even if people would support him. Besides which, I can't think of any reason why the current board wouldn't be re-elected anyway.

The election may take time and money, which is unwanted, but it has to happen.

Yes. There hasn't been a suggestion yet, that an election 'should not ' happen. Jim and his board should be given more time. Ie/ Re-elected.

What might assist in not having an election and saving the cost is for Jim to outline in response to his comment " much has been done" , what exactly has been done.

That would allow potential board members to evaluate for themselves whether the board is achieving something and should be left unchallenged, at least for the current AGM.

edit: -

He was quoted as saying "we have achieved much in a short time", rather than "much has been done".

Jim acknowledges in his email to members, "...however there is still plenty of work to do and we all look forward to taking on those challenges in 2009."

    The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter.
