The cats have delisted Jason Davenport after 1 year on the vfl list, another as a rookie and then 2008 on the senior list. Watched him play a few times in the VFL and the cats rate him highly. Suprised to see him get the flick. Although seeing as each club has to cut 3 players each year i could see him being re-drafted by the cats in the ND.

He has just turned 23, so fits in our youth policy. 185cm and 82kg's and takes a good grab. If we use our PSD pick i could see us taking a young player such as this, or could even be a late ND pick due to the rule change.

Another player is ryan jackson from carlton, 21 i think, big engine, plays midfield, booming kick though has been cut down by a broken hand for the past year. He'd be dissapointed to get cut although will almost definately get another crack most likely as a rookie.

thoughts??

Davenport worth a crack, not jackson though.

I'm really hoping we pull a smoky though, just like we did last year with big stef martin.

I'm not a fan of picking up other club's rejects

You're going to get at least 20 people claiming that other clubs' rejects aren't worth considering...

But I would hope we look at every player delisted and see if there's a good fit. Especially if young. They'd be on base wages, and we'll be widely abused if we don't actually use the selection... And the other thing to think about is that they won't do a Prismall/OKeefe/Warnock and say the club isn't worth coming to. They'll just be glad to be listed by anyone...

Contradiction in terms ... if they rated him highly, they wouldn't have delisted him.

Indeed. Nathan Ablett also delisted. He rates even higher, but has lost his passion for footy. Davenport definitely a chance of being picked though. He did win the VFL Best & Fairest for Geelong. I'd say Hislop and him would be right up there.

That is not a reason to use the pick. If there is no one worth picking up, just pass.

Im sure they rate everyone on their list highly, although you cant keep everyone. Plus clubs delist players based on more than just footy ability. He might be a d**k head.

Maybe we should try and pick him up, haha

 yeah. But the Cats can't entice him down to Geelong to play, so how would he have been in the Big Smoke like Melbourne?! No chance. :P Actually he might enjoy it down at Casey....maybe not..

I wonder how Geelong would of gone with Nathan in the Grand Final?

didnt we want to recruit chris kangars as well last year?

i remember talk of him b4 the draft as a top 20 possible prospect...did he not get picked up by anyone at all?

He was training with us leading up to the PSD if my memory is correct.

Got rookie listed by Geelong. Was supposed to be smoky for the top 20 due to his athleticism.

The word was he is a decent FB that can keep with most forwards fairly well, but his kicking leaves a lot to be desired... a LOT.

Couldn't hit water from a boat, or some variation of that.

haha, HT i beleive it's 'couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat'

Davenport could possibly be worth a punt. Don't rate Jackson though.

Davenport is not a bad player at all . Would be a regular in a lot os AFL clubs ( us included ).

I would certainly look at him , maybe as a later pick in the national draft , if he goes into that , or in th PSD . A ready made player for us IMO .
