Contracts?? (edited)

A team's much better served from having a tagger with the attacking skills that Dunn could develop, as opposed to a Godfrey clone.

Yeah, that's how I see it. If someone can do a good job in negating an opponent, and then add something to the team as well, then that's a good player to have.

Clint, where exactly will Dunn fit into our forwardline? I rate Sylvia and Bate ahead of him as medium forwards and Dunn will never be a tall forward.

He should be developed as a tagger as that is where his strengths lie. If he learns to attack his direct opponent when we have the ball he'll be an excellent player.

None of those guys will get delisted...

They'll pay out Chopper, and I think with the other delistings that'll be just about it.

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DELIST ANY OF THOSE GUYS, YOU' RE RIGHT, Chooper's gone thats it. They've already got rid of Yze,White, Neitz etc

Taggers are overrated IMO.

What Dunn could offer as a forward outweighs his benefit as a tagger.

Agree, but he needs to muscle up and get his mate Juice to do the same.

I think Dunn's potential as a forward is over-rated.

In his first few games he looked like a natural forward in terms of game sense, but I don't see where he fits in a forward structure.

Is he the pacey crumbing type that applies pressure?

How about the KPF we're after?

Is he a hard-running hit-up high forward?

I think that if he's going to make it, it'll be as a running type.

He could become a CHF who leads up onto the wing?

Although Dunn wont be a big pack mark type player, how many pack marks does Miller take there anyway? I would think CHF is the position that will best suit Dunn.

Sometimes I think Dunny's been a victim of Daniher's obsession with players like Green and Bruce who are jack of all trades but master of none... He likes a tagger, defender, forward, midfielder the old Neale...

I'm hoping Bailey has the guts to just play players in their favoured positions first, THEN let them develop in different directions once they're comfortable.

You lost me then and there.

If someone can keep Gary Ablett to 12 touches in a game compared to the 50 he'd get if left to his own devices I don't think it's possible to overrate them

What can Dunn offer as a forward? Contested marks, goals? If he can offer that then so be it - all well and good, but I haven't seen enough to suggest he will offer that. If you are suggesting Dunn will present as a lead -up forward, it will be along the same lines as Miller. I think Miller is more effective in this area and has the option of dropping deep into forward line to take a contested mark, or at least get it to the ground for a contested ball for our small forwards, IMO Dunn wouldn't be as effective in this area of his game.

I agree with you and Rogue, if he can hone his skills towards this he will be very effective for the team.

Agree. Taggers can be just as effective or influential on the outcome of a game just as any other player on the ground. Your example is a good one. For those who doubt so or think that "taggers are overrated", just ask Bomber Thompson what he thinks of Cameron Ling.

By playing someone purely as a "tagger" it is implied that their primary focus is to stop another player. I prefer players who go, get their own ball, attack and make things happen but when they don't have the ball, they man-up.

Yeah restricting the influence of a star midfielder is just as important as a good defender who restricts a damaging forward like Franklin or Brown... if not more... in the same way if they hurt the opposition going the other way like Ling and Scarlett do they are very valuable indeed

CJ, Moloney, Whelan, Dunn, Bell are all out of contract. Others? No sign of new contracts.

Any news out there? Wonder if there will be any delistings.

Time for hard decisions??

Ed: I will take a punt and reckon that Whelan & Moloney may be retired/delisted. We need more picks in this draft - maybe get them again in PSD if nothing better.

I can't believe you would delist those two - sometimes I think they are the only ones in the whole side who give a rat's about the jumper. I wasn't at all surprised to find that they were the two behind taking all the young blokes into a boxing camp either. Like Sylvia, McLean, Davey, Rivers and Robbo they have just been smashed by injury in the last 2-3 years

I think you're thinking of a 'dead tag' rather than a normal tag...

As usual, I go against the grain. Like Rhino, I doubt that there will be any delistings. That said, I'd cut Bell and Dunn. I just don't rate either. I certainly wouldn't give anything longer than a 1 year contract.

Pick 90 >> Bell

Pick 90 >> Bell

Name one recent player taken at pick 90 that is better, or even half as good as Daniel Bell.

There is no point delisting players, only to replace them with really REALLY ordinary players who can't crack it into the top 70 in the draft.

I know its not "recent", but Chris Grant. B) :P

Rookie players are essentially those who can't crack it into the top 70 in the draft. The list of rookies who are 10 times better than Bell are endless.

Ah, too easy. (Except there's been no pick 90 this century, so I'll revert by one.)

2006 Draft

Pick 89 St. Kilda Pass

I'd have him over Bell any day.

Seems strange - anyone have any info. No announcements, or have I missed something.

White, Yze, Holland, Neitz, CJ, Bode and Weetra have all left the club.

7 players out, 6 in so far. What's the confusion?
