If Hawthorn are really going to trade Thorp (and it's not just another [censored] rumour, which it probably is) then they will be getting about 10 teams falling over themselves to get him and an offer of a straight swap of Green wouldn't get past the secretary.

Dowler could be worth a shot with his injuries but he got absolutely SMASHED by Mal Michael when I saw Box Hill play Bendigo earlier in the year (obviously one game doesn't mean much)

Don't worry about my football knowledge....your lack of it is on display for all to see. If you had any clue you'd know about Thorp's injuries and understand how highly he is rated both by the Hawks and other clubs.

Anyway, it's pointless arguing with someone who clearly has no idea - let's see if he gets traded for Green or something equivalent and then compare your football knowledge to mine and everyone else's on that basis

If you actually followed football you would know that KPP take longer to come on than midfielders.

If you had any clue, you would know that aside from Nathan Brown - NONE of the "top shelf" KPP from the Super Draft 2006 have come on.

He's been in the system only 2 years and you expect him to dominate at CHF/CHB in a struggling Box Hill side?

I'm sure Hawthorn should have traded Luke Hodge after his first 2 "stellar" years in the system.

I can't for the life of me work out why people are using Stuart Dew as a defence for Hawthorn acquring Green.

It's completely irrelevant.

As stated earlier Dew was a punt taken by Alistair Clarkson at Pick #45 in THE DRAFT.

He wasn't traded for a highly rated youngster.

It's Thorp's assumed value that's at question here. Green can safely be put in the pick 15-20 bracket. Thorp? I couldn't spot him out of a line-up. I assume you watch the Box Hill Hawks most weeks? Most of us here are just making assumptions about him. With only 1 game in 2 years as a sample, he could turn out to be Riewoldt or Molan. If he's going to be the sort of player Hawthorn think he is then I doubt he'd be traded at all. He is however biding his time in the VFL while opportunities exist elsewhere.

His performances havent been all that bad in the VFL either - and dare I say it, if he was playing for any side other than Hawthorn he'd be playing regular senior football as a forward at AFL level (more to the point at CHF).

Because of Hawthorns embarresment of riches - they're grooming him as CHB, a position I havent seen him play since he was 17 years old.

While I think highly of him as a footballer - I personally don't rate him much as a bloke in general, and I beleive given some of the perceived ego on him - he would be the kind of person to move clubs for either more cash or to be allowed to play as a CHF.

But even in the event that he were to move clubs - an offer of Brad Green as a straight swap would not even come close to being sufficient when looking at it from a Hawthorn perspective.

In essence though, you are trading for potential.

Yeah, i think everyone who has dismissed Thorp as a dud need only think back to the beginning of this season and look at how Col Garland was perceived.

Now the masses are calling for Judy to be moved up forward cos we need him there more, a la Neita in his heyday.

imo Thorp will end up being twice the player Green is. Naturally gifted forwards (particularly Centre-Half) are pretty hard to come by and he is certainly one of the more gifted going around
