2008 Player Review - #30 Tom McNamara

Recommended Posts

30. Tom McNamara [190cm 84kg 29.04.90 - 0 games, 0 goals] - the youngest player on any AFL list this year, McNamara was given a taste of senior football in the NAB Cup but started his development at Sandy reserves and has the odd game in the seniors. Ended the season carrying an injury.

Thought he played well in one NAB game, reading the play and rebounding well... but then again I may have been confusing him with somebody else. Put it this way, after that performance I was surprised that he didn't surface again in 2008. Still an unknown quantity, but wouldn't it be great if he maturned into a gun!

could be one of CAC's final little secrets

expect his development to be similar to players in this years draft as he is roughly more their age

however, he has had a little head start

i am a little exitited about the kid

Could very well be something, but he was our last draft pick and showed little throughout the year. The most likely outcome is that he'll be nothing. I reckon only the biggest of blue sky junkies would be excited about this prospect at this stage.

Who is this kid and what position does he play? Who would you compare him too from other clubs?

He's a medium sized running defender, apparently.

The following is a summary of him in the Age last year, before the draft:

23. Tom McNamara

(South Adelaide. 17, 190cm, 84kg) McNamara, a member of the AISAFL Academy, may be a tricky one for the recruiters to place, having spent the majority of his season playing school football in Adelaide.

He looks like a genuine full-back and has some good spring and athleticism.

Seems able to control the space around him well.

He is young. The writer rated him in top 25. Success may well depend on how he handles the move to Melbourne.

Article here.

Good to read the appraisal of Grimes whilst the comment about Morton doing well in uncontested football seems strange as the best teams all play hard contested footy.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
