He rarely played as a floating tall forward.

For a reason. White does and cannot play body on body football. It crucifies him up forward. He is not a recognised contested mark except when marking with his natural spring 2nd or 3rd deep on his chest. His lack of physical presence particularly since the introduction of the centre circle has cruelled his effectiveness as a ruckman. Over his 12 year career he has had many (failed) stints up forward and shown neither the physical capacity or the knowledge to play key position forward.

As ruckman, he played with great mobility and provide good linkage between half forward and half back not just a kick behind the play. However after 276 games where you have kicked 111 goals 76 behinds would hardly suggest he is dangerous around the goals.

For a reason.

Indeed.

White looks most dangerous going forward when he's cruising down the opposite side of the centre circle to the ball carrier, and can take a mark as he pushes into the 50.

It would cheer me up immensely if someone could do a quick round up of Freo's drafting "ability."

At a quick think, Farmer, Mcleod, White, Bell, Croad have all been traded out of Freo, any others? Any there that are wrong?

Phil Matera? Didn't know that!

How'd I forget James Clement.

On a positive, they traded away Kingsley Hunter, the down side of that is that they had him in the first place. Adam McPhee. This just gets better and better

Article in the Sunday HUN by Craig Hutchison about Adem Yze being asked to sign a legal waiver before being allowed to play in Sandringham's finals campaign finishes with this paragraph about Jeff White and Paul Johnson:-

Well, now the melbournefc.com.au site says he might still play this week despite the fact that he is facing surgery some time soon - Johnson set to have hip surgery.

Truth is White has never been a goal kicking follower at anytime during his career.

Tell that to the Bulldogs!! Haha... you are right, except for that one game towards the end of a couple of seasons ago, when he sunk the Bulldogs finals hopes with just a few moments to go. I was sitting right behind him, was certain he'd miss... and he snagged it from the boundary. I'll always remember that magic moment and the feeling walking away from that game :P

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
