The MCC is in the stadium business and if they owned or part owned it we wouldn't need to feel like we were leaving home, just playing at our smaller place in the burbs  . A pipedream I know but wouldn't it be nice.

I'm pretty sure Paul Gardner - maybe someone else like Harris, though - was talking about a MCC-owned boutique stadium, so if it's a pipedream it's one shared by others :)

Really, sweet! I posted this on one of the Casey threads a while ago, if on the extremely odd chance it ever got up, I'd be claiming it. The Furious D.C.G, I like the sound of that

I always thought it was short sighted by the AFL not to keep one of Princes, Vic park or Waverly around to revamp as a boutique option. Yo can only assume it would cost them less to revamp than build a new one...

Safety standards, access issues, etc are the concern and revamping stadia such as Princes Park would actually cost alot more than you think. Don't ask me how much, but reconstuction cost blowouts can escalate to millions...and millions.

Bugger you eastside homeys, build it out west! In case you haven't noticed Whyndam in the fastest growing city in Melbourne, Melton is 3rd I think. Casey's old hat, yesterday's news. I live less than 20 mins from the CBD and I'm surrounded by paddocks! Public Transport is non existant but we've got bike paths. Casey might as well be Warnambool for all the good it does me.

Edit: Just went back for another look at google earth, every cricket groud is prefaced cricket grounds of the world, do'h, don't know what the joint is called

Yeah, build it out west......where? Sunshine/Laverton?

DCG - will that contain a 'drop in wicket' for the summer?

You can only imagine a certain councill wil wake to this news and be making a beeline for AFL house !! lol ;)

I think that happened in February. ;)

Did you guys never catch the tram to Princess Park? It stopped right outside! Public transport was fine for that place.

AFL CONSIDERS BUILDING A THIRD STADIUM IN MELBOURNE

AFL BLUEPRINT FOR THIRD STADIUM

Well this is something that some of summised some time ago.. its all a bit 5 into 4 once the new franchises hit the deck !!

Ought to be interesting watching this develop.

This really sounds like paper talk to me. Designed to strengthen the AFL's hand in its negotiations on behalf of the clubs for a better deal from the stadium managers.

Still, it wouldn't be a bad idea for the AFL to kick some additional funding into Casey Fields to ensure the ground has sufficient capacity to hold a crowd of 15 - 20k for home games for clubs like Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne and hawthorn against the lesser interstate draws like Fremantle, Port Adelaide, GC17 and WS18.

That's fine, since the major motive for a smaller stadium is to get a better stadium deal.

THe showgrounds would be perfect!!!!!

train and tram lines to drop you right at the door and only 7 km from the CBD

Great idea. And multi-use facility!

Yes. It just might force Ian Collins to ease the break even line for the Dome tenants, so too the MCG tenants.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
