Which current MFC players hold the highest and lowest possessions on AFL debut for the club

Recommended Posts

The following questions revolve around the current list, so ignore players that exited before 2008.

Which current MFC player polled the highest amount of possessions on debut with 20?

Which current MFC player polled the lowest amount of possessions on debut?

Which current MFC player kicked the most goals on debut with just 2!!?

Can Addam Maric break any of these records? As you can see, there haven't been any amazing debuts statistically or goal kicking wise when you look at the current list.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brent Moloney actually gained 24 possessions (and 3 brownlow votes) in his MFC debut in 2005 V Essendon, but he doesn't fit the above criteria as he had already debuted for Geelong in 2003.

Nathan Carroll of all players holds the record for most marks on debut with 6 back in round 4 2003 V Geelong

I'll post answers in a day or so.

I'd guess that Ricky Petterd had about 20 possies on debut, as for the lowest, Col (both Sylvia & Garland) had one handball I think. No idea about the goal kicker, but I'd guess Newton.

Dunn kicked 2 goals against Geelong rd 6 2006 on debut

correct!!!!

So if Maric gets 21 touches, 7 marks and 3 goals, he's smashed the record of all debutants.

No pressure

Most touches - Petterd (20) rd 5 2007 V Sydney

Least touches - Rivers (0) rd 19 V Geelong

Most Goals - Dunn (2) Rd 6 2006 V Geelong

Most Marks - Carroll (6) Rd 4 2003 V Geelong

Sylvia wasn't far behind with 1 handball and one 1 tackle on debut.

Don't forget that he also knocked out Leigh Colbert in the dying seconds of the game. Not many players can boast that on debut.

Also, when Sylvia played his second game a few weeks later, he kicked a goal with his first ever kick but this somehow seems to be bypassed by those in charge of record books.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the greatest debut by a MFC player would have been?

What was Jako's debut like?

Didn't Daren Cuthberson kick 7 @ 6 in his fist two games?

Jakovich debuted in a game vs WC in Perth where the whole team managed 2 goals in a 10 goal + hiding, I don't think he kicked either goal

I think I remember that game, we had something like 4 key forwards playing, Lyon, Bennett, Schwartz and Jako. The day was a disaster but it signaled a new exciting era for our forwards.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
