I cannot beleive that hack Bell is back!!

He has done NOTHING to deserve a spot, id rather see yze, White, Carroll, Holland ahead of him, and since i dont want them to play, that shows how much I dont wont dinga to play!!

Midfield?? u guys are kidding yourselves, he's no where near a midfielder!! what a joke!

Im angry! Bell.. well, lets see, he'll make some bad decisions, run around on the spot, turnover a few by hand & foot, let his opponent kick a couple of easy ones, and, get dropped again..

Sorry 2 be so negative, he's just the 1 player 1 really dislike at our club!

Bell > Bode

Yes, JUST! not much, Bode turns it ova less though! Bell is more frustraing cause he has decent ability, just absolutely no football smarts about him at all!

Sorry, But like Godfrey before him, I hate it when BEll plays! I just do!! ok!!

Id much rather Maric get a run, or play White to put PJ up forward, anything but Bell!!

Hes not our worst footballer, hes just typical craig cameron, average! too slow for a geniune midfielder, not tall enough for KP and not smart enough to be a real staunch defender!

BUT:

I do hope he plays well for a few weeks, to maybe give him some small value for trade week! Id love

to trade him for someone like Jericho..

I agree with Nudge.

Bell has the skills, body and general ability to do well. He never produces though. Bearly does a defensive job and has poor skills in play.

Not a good inclusion. I'd rather see Bode.

He turns it over less because he never gets the pill in the first place.

I'd rather see Bode get 10 possesions with 70% efficiency and do a defensive job.

Than see Bell get 20, hit the target with 5-10 of them and play well of his man.

If your seriously saying that you'd prefer Bode over Bell your delusional. Bell has had a poor season but he's young and has shown us in the past that he has great attack on the ball and can play. Bode, no offence intended, hasn't shown anything in his games. I'd be surprised if he's on our list next year. Give Bell achance I think you'll be happy with the result.

As long as Carroll doesn't get a game I'll be happy with any changes. They must get rid of him even if they have to pay him out. With Neitz retiring and Yze and White more likely retiring we also won't be paying any more of Johnstone's contract surely then we could have enough money to pay out the duds like Carroll, Meeson and Bode and look for better talent.

too slow for a geniune midfielder...

You're kidding me right? He came home with a wet sail to take second in the Grand final sprint a couple of years back... crossing the line hot on the heels of Deledio.

He's got a few issues, but pace isn't one of them.

It would be fair to say that Bell doesnt exactly use this blistering pace he has in games much.

I'd say that has a lot to do with confidence.

Something a more freed-up role in the midfield could provide

I know about the sprint, but thats not footy, thats simple straight line accelartion!

A game situation is totally differant!

he also does not have the tank for a midfielder, or the lateral movement!

If he did, we'd of seen him there, yes?

Newton and Bell are just another round of ins for mine.

The real inclusion we should be focusing on is Cale Morton. His role within the team will be crutial come next year and beyond.

people are hailing bate as a forward but he has kicked less goals than games. until he lifts that he isn't doing his job up forward. sylvia is excused for now because he has played a few games in defence. but if he continues to play up forward he will need to lift that to 2 goals per game. same goes for miller.

a bag every few weeks isnt good enough, players who play forward need to kick 1.5-2 goals every week then the occassional bag of 4-5.

Bate is playing the length of the ground, note his great spoil going back with the flight against Brown was deep in the lions forward zone directly in front (would have been a certain mark and goal).

Also, he often starts at centre bounces in the circle or from the wing. As well as several strong tackles in the last few high pressure minutes he also provided the assist that put the ball, from outside 50, into the 10 metre square for Miller's match winnning mark and goal.

I think you just don't "get it" with the impact Bate has on games.

Luckily, however, the coaches do.

Juice will start on the ground, guaranteed.

Man I am excited to see what he does. Bailey has worked so much magic with our youngsters this year, and Juice has as much talent as anyone.

I predict a bag of 7 goals.

I reckon you are right.

Bailey wouldn't play Newton unless he thought he was up to it and ready to really go for it. He will have given him achievable benchmarks for this game

Newton will get high quality intelligent supply compared to being at Sandy, has the nous, skills and physically/athletically will match up well against the dogs.

I think Bailey has toughened him up, mentally, which is what he lacked previously, IMO.

My prediction is for Newton to play at least a solid team game with defensive pressure a priority, maybe snag 1 or 2 goals OR play a blinder kicking up to 6.....if the former prediction is correct we will go close to a win ......if the latter is correct we will definitely win.... as it will mean the forward line has run riot.

Can't wait to get to the game and see it unfold!

Could Newton be the next of the number of unknown, underated or under performing players that Bailey has analysed and motivated to believe in themselves and the team?

Quite possibly YES!

Daniel Bell is a member of our football team. If he is selected by our coaching staff to be in the 22 tomorrow, I will give him my support, like I will for every player selected.

By all means argue for or against his inclusion on rational grounds, but throwing stupid tantrums and hatred at a player who wears the Melbourne jumper is demeaning of both Bell and you as a supporter.

You might question Bell's disposal and use of the ball, but he gives everything he's got when he's on the field. And anybody who says he is not quick hasn't watched enough of him.

I said I was sorry for being harsh, its just he is one of those players who makes me think of skill errors, bad decisions and a total lack of accountablity!

As far as your lil speech goes, everyone has a player that makes them feel this way at one time or another, and dont you question my integrity mate, ive been a member for 21 years, I watch every game at least once, I go and watch the team train monthly, also get 2 a few sandy games!

im aloud my opinion, that is the point of message boards!

I hope he does well, but im portraying MY OPINION of him, which is my absolute right!

So back up on your liberal speeches of empathy! Dinga is an AFL footballer getting paid excellent money, football clubs also do not always make decisions that there supporters agree with, seriously, do u honestly agree with your own statement? if so, my congratulations, but I cant go through supporting a club wearing a blindfold and being totally cohesive to absolutely everything they do, because thats a dangerous occupation, if we all did that, it would be detrimental to the game!

Its footy! His speed is irrelevant, anyone can run fast in a straight line, doing it in a game of footy is a toally differant ball game all together, I take it you didnt play much?

I know im going off on a tangent, but im passionate about my footy, and i am certainly not going to apologise for that!

I dont like personal attacks, but I am not gonna sit quietly while some pacifist hippie challenges my integrity!

Cheers..

I'm not going to respond in depth to your rant, other than to repeat Andy Lovell's match review from last week:

Daniel Bell

"Daniel Bell played a really good game at half back. He beat his man and had 23 possessions. He was really strong and physical in his attack on the ball. He ran hard and gave us some good drive and rebound off half back. In his first game back, he had a really positive impact."

I'll take Lovell's word over yours any day, and I'll believe the coaching staff's reason for Bell's inclusion over your personal bias against him.

Of course Bell should justify his inclusion in the team, but he shouldn't have to do any more to be selected than any other player. To say that he should have to "set the world alight at Sandy before being selected", or that he "needs to absolutely dominate with Sandy before he deserves another crack with the Seniors" is applying biased standards towards one player over others, and contradicts your own supposed "professed knowledge" of the game.

you obviously havnt watched much footy then this year.

bell has been quite tight defensively, he always is. his problem hasnt been restricting his man, it has been turning it over when he has had the ball, specifically awareness issues and getting caught with the ball.

who has bode been playing on? in fact i cant even remember seeing bode out there...he just is, he doesnt do. having had a stint at afl level hopefully he gets back to sandy and applies a couple of things he has learnt and improves hs game, and hopefully we see him come back with 2 or 3 rounds to go and he can impress a bit more. similarly i hope that bell can come in this week and use the ball a bit better and show that he has learnt from his time at sandy.

but bell is a better match up for the doggies forward line...

my intention wasnt to bag bate. i like what he does around the ground, and i believe he will be a midfielder who occassionally drifts forward and is therefore dangerous. but my point was to show that he isnt playing as a key forward, and that definetly isnt performing as one, even though a lot of people around here keep grouping him as one. the only tall forward we've had playing for the last month is miller.
