Anyone who says this guy isn't the best, or at least one of the best, players in the competition needs to get a copy of last nights game.

The guy is a freak, amazing control, strength, speed, and brings teammates into the game so easily, and with such purpose.

I know this doesn't achieve much, but i think it's right to applaud great players as we see them.

If only he wore Red and Blue

I mentioned this in the Prismall/Lonergan thread last night.

anyone see Ablett's game tonight? Phenomenal! 39 touches, 2 goals, 6 tackles, 8 clearances. Unbelievable. On his form this year and last, he is better now than Judd ever was IMO.

I think he is possibly the best player I've ever seen.

There would be a few other in-and-under players who kick goals that I'd take over Thommo

Thommo has been on fire...kicked 6 today.

So are people saying he is better than his father? and speaking of father/son. Out of interest how are G Lyons boys going?

If ablett played for melbourne we would probably trade him and then pay his wages for the next year after we traded him. Our club is the joke of the AFL.

Out of those:

Wayne Carey - can't remember much of him whilst he was in his prime

Chris Judd - i personally believe Ablett jnr is ahead of him

Michael Voss - different player, probably more of a leader but still think Ablett jnr is better

James Hird - as influential as he was/is I think Ablett jnr is ahead

Gary Ablett SNR - never saw him play

Ben Cousins - I'm a huge Cuz fan but Ablett jnr is a better play

Mark Ricciuto - same as Vossy

Greg Williams - never saw him play

Tony Lockett - saw very little of him (although to kick 11 in that match where it hailed is a fair effort)

Andrew McLeod - overrated

Peter Matera - same as Carey

Darren Jarman - same as Carey

Jason Dunstall - can't ever remember seeing him play

Nathan Buckley - receiver

Glen Jakovich - same as Carey

Paul Roos - same as Carey

Simon Black - more a player who dishes off handballs but lacks leg speed and doesn't kick enough goals to be as good as Ablett

Robert Harvey - same as Carey

Gavin Wanganeen - same as Carey

McLoed is NOT overrated.

One of the most creative smooth mover i have witnessed. Is a wonderfully unique player who stands out against the rest

Andrew McLeod - overrated

Overrated players do not win 2 Norm Smith medals.

If you can't remember all of those, then clearly your opinion on the best player you've seen means very little.

well i hope we'll all be invited to your 12 birthday party?

you cant think anyone would take you seriously when you discuss who the best player ever is and you've watched about 5 seasons of football?

Posted
I've been watching football basically since I was born but it's pretty hard to form proper opinions when you're 10 years old

haha fair enough...i spose you can only comment on what you've seen...at least your honest about it and dont claim that either you've seen everything or that everything you've seen are the only things worth seeing.

It's a bit hard with the way the game is played now too.

Nowadays guys like Williams and Jarman would almost be liabilities because of their foot speed (much in the way Whitnall became one)

Posted

Ablett Jnr isnt half as good as Judd at his peak.

And hes not even the best player currently in the game. Frankin is better then Ablett Jnr.

Sometimes you make sense.... :P

...and then you go and say this:

Ablett Jnr isnt half as good as Judd at his peak.

How can people forget so quickly just what Judd was doing 2-3 years ago?

Ablett Jnr is a good player, but Judd is a once in a decade player.

My top 10 players of this decade

1. Chris Judd

2. Michael Voss

3. James Hird

4. Ben Cousins

5. Mark Ricciuto

6. Nathan Buckley

7. Adam Goodes

8. Simon Black

9. Jonathan Brown

10. Daniel Kerr

Cant even fit Ablett into the top 10 of the decade.

Not yet convinced Ablett is better than Judd, but he's a bit better than half as good as Judd.

Your top 10 above is pretty good.

Gary Ablett Jnr isn't even the best player that I've seen in his own family, let alone the best player that I've ever seen.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
