Sitting high up at games gives me a good vantage point to see what the MFC tactics are in relation to player positioning when in possession of the ball.

What I have noticed is the difference between MFC and our opposition is the space forward of the ball carrier. When we are in possession across half-back our players swarm in the area 20-50 metres in front of the ball carrier, effectively clogging the space and forcing the hesitation. By comparison, the St Kilda players would bolt well away from the ball carrier forward and sideways, dragging their opponents with them and creating space for their teammates to run in to.

This also causes the long kicks to 3-on-1 situations that we have seen this season, as the half-forwards are running forward into the swarm, yet their opponents were happy for them to get cheap kicks up the ground and stayed back to double-team Robbo.

The lack of defensive pressure from our forward line was the worst aspect of the day. If your not gonna do your job as a forward (mark, goal) then at least make it hard for them to take it out. Simple stuff.

Our forward line has been MIA all year really and man do we look like a slow side without Davey out there. Wonaemirri seemed to be the only forward who was willing to chase and try and make things happen. Bate got a bit of the footy and presented ok but had absolutely no impact on the game. I can't see anyone on our current list capable of kicking a bag of goals this year except maybe Aussie or Davey who are crumbers.

Miller and Bate play to far up the ground to have any impact on the scoreboard.

Purely and simply, there is no-one in this team with a goal-kicking ability/nous/knack. Bate and Miller don't kick anywhere near enough goals (Bate excused though), Wonna is a rookie 1st year player, shouldn't be expected to carry the team's scoring, Davey plays further up the ground now.

Basically saying; 'we zoned off them because we knew they wouldn't hurt us by getting kicks upfield and they would probably just bomb it down to us anyway'.

Shows the (deserved) lack of respect we have in the AFL at the moment.
