Valenti. How'd he go?

Based on stats (12 touches, 6 tackles), he did OK from limited ground time. But I didn't see the game. Seems to be an undercurrent that he might get dropped this week.

Thoughts?

He looks and plays a lot like Moloney. When he was on, he was definitely getting in the contests, just wasn't getting the ball.

Definitely persist with him IMO. Many dream teamers are getting on him while hes cheap.

He was servicable but probably vulnerable at selection.

22 touches and 12 tackles in 2 games is a very good start for a little bloke.

Best part was when he ran 50m chasing after 2 Hawks on the back flank, they fumbled, he ran over the footy and cleaned up a bloke and we took it down the other end and kicked a major.

I thought he showed a lot with limited game time. He uses his body well which sometimes end up in team mate possessions. He should play every game, at least until Grimes is ready.

That's how I saw it. He attacks the ball hard, but isn't blessed with the most extraordinary of skills. Should be persisted with.

Loves the contest, but was exposed by the hard-running Hawks. He's been ok, and cerainly good enough to retain hi spot, but when Grimes returns, it's definitely going to be Wona that keeps his spot... I wouldn't say he's DEFINITELY kept his spot in the side OR rookie list just yet, but he's on the way.

Definitely worth persisting with. I saw some very good work in the centre square around the bounce.

I thought he did some good 'hard' things, but wasn't as impressive with the ball.

Does anyone know what % of time he spent on the ground?

I didn't notice him much in the first half. That said, I agree he looks a fair bit like Moloney from a distance.

For some reason 61 is coming to my mind so i'm gonna stick say 61%.

pretty good game I thought...worth more on field time

63% TOG according to the Herald Sun stats...pretty close!

I would like to see Shane Valenti slowly take the midfield time off Jmac.

Used his body well to help his teammates and given the chance, he will start racking them up.

They play different roles. JMac has moved back to his role of tagger as he was pre 2005.

Valenti doesn't look to me to be run with player but who knows at this stage...

It should be noted in the last half that whenever Valenti was in the middle for the bounce he was heavily guarded.

So he is already highly regarded at stoppages.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
