Who gets No 9

No one one our current list, this honour should be kept for the next champion of our club. At the moment nobody on our list is that.

Give it to Brad Green, make him captain and permanent full forward.

Greeny has played nearly 200 games wearing 18, why would he want to change?

Neitz is a no fuss type, just give to a new recruit next year.

Not until he earns it. This number should be earnt not just handed out.

Totally agree. Nothing should be given out easily in this club again. The next person to wear the no. 9 must earn it through respect and hard work.

its just a bloody number. Travis Varcoe from the Cats got given Gods number...so lets put it in perspective.

I mentioned this on another thread...as a mark of respect ..hang it up..retire it for a year.. Give it to someone in 2010

Yep and in 2010 give it to someone who respects it-Like Jonesy wears no. 2

My pick would be Valenti

I cannot see him having a high number for long

I see your point, but I don't think there would be too many Demon players not willing to take the great No.9 if they had the chance, considering how admired Neita is.

If not Greeny, then the number should be retired until someone truly deserves it in a couple of years time.

there maybe a young player who neita likes who he wants to have his number...

I actually do think football clubs care about numbers

Gary Ablett wasnt the only famous player to wear 5 at Geelong

Polly Farmer for example also wore 5

But your Varcoe example does make you wonder

I agree.

Nicholas Natanui - #9

Yeah, give it to Nat or Rich or Hurley. No-one on the list demands the number.

Chris Johnson

Remove the #3 from Aussie's jumper

He should keep the 39. Let kids get 39 put on their backs, let him make 39 his own so he can become a fan favourite like Davey kinda was.

I don't think the number needs to be retired. Archer, Buckley and Hird all passed their numbers on straight away. Give it to a kid!

Gotta make it count.... DO we really want to see our club legends number sitting on the back of the next Stanton or Maxwell.....?

Or Firrito for that matter.

If there is somebody Neitz would like to see wear it then fine. Otherwise I don't think it is a big deal.

To be fair, North supporters love Firrito. Undersized full back who has a real dip.

I'd like to see them give it to a kid - have Neitz present the guernsey. Hopefully it would be pretty inspiring stuff.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
