  1. Having McDonald made the transition easy when Rivers departed. He and Chip are both required to play on the big men, Garland again showed this year his flexibility to play on a number of differant types of players effectively. These three down back plus our forwards being fit are crucial to us being competitive. Now if Watts is in the midfield he's on a wing with Toumpas on the other so the Swans can stick their offer. I haven't seen a lot of Shiel but if he's good to go lets get him. We can become more competitive quicker than most think.
  2. Yes, clearly free agency has destroyed clubs.
  3. I wish my company could trade me to the top end of WA, no go home factor but the money's blood good.
  4. If Rivers stayed would Tom McDonald ask to be traded, Rivers stays for two more seasons Tom says for seven. Geelong make tough calls(yes I'm aware Rivers walked) but this year Chappy and JPOD are told no more. This allows them to elevate players full time into the starting 22 rather than in and out depending on injuries and prepare the next batch coming through. Sylvia is an 'icing on the cake player' , I think it's best for both party's he's gone. Hopefully Mitch and Dawes can stay injury free and we have a successful trade period, start to show dramatic improvement. One thing we have going for us is that Chip, Garland, Tom Mc, Mitch , Dawes , Watts, Jones are all aged between 21-26. There is some talent there all in their prime. On top of that we have Viney , Toumpas and Hogan. If there is any truth to Beams and Rockcilff wanting out we should pay big$$ to land one of them. This should be our last payment of this type as we start to have the makings of a good footy side.
  5. Geelong have shown what's needed to remain competitive in terms of moving players on. This year they weren't afraid to make the tough calls. If you don't your young emerging players will seek opportunities else where. Players will/should be aware of this.
  6. Great post, whole lot of worry about nothing.
  7. Jamar... Yeah if they take him. We would have to offer around that sort of money to attract one of them, plus with Sylvia and Davey gone we can afford to. There's a handful of players that could be coupledc up with pick 2. Ruckmen came to mind because of Jolly/Longer is homesick.
  8. Let's say that's true, we could offer a 4 year deal to either player at 700k . Trade pick 2 and spencer. Both clubs need a ruckmen.
  9. I think we are being inundated with less than substantial offers. The club is just playing the game as are the others. As previously mentioned if no suitable offers are made we have a pretty good pick in the draft. We need to show faith in the new team.
  10. lets remember UFA have already served ten years and clubs still receive compensation picks for them. Would you rather Scully or Hogan? Morton , Cook, Gysberts and Bate were bad selections. Viney showed last year what can be achieved under a bad system.
  11. Mate I had laugh to myself when I read what Carlton is offering Daisy. I know it's all speculative but makes one shake the head.
  12. Please noooooooooooo. If Daisy is worth 700k, Kieren Jack must be around 900k.
  13. wasn't the hawks latest offer around that mark?? They are in a similar boat with Guerra retiring. Hodge, Mitchell and Sewell are getting up around late 20's
  14. Exactly, Or was he encouraged to go in way off a very modest offer which reflected his true worth. Between Sylvia and Davey going I'm guessing that would free up close to 900k. That money can now be used to persuade a mid to join us. Wonder if that crossed Roo's mind.
  15. Your right , who's going to teach the kids to give up when it all becomes too hard . Nasher touched on it before , as a group build your own success. Roo's will get us heading in the right direction by installing discipline, accountability and a never say die attitude into the playing group. Moving to Freo doesn't guarantee him success .
  16. Between Davey and Sylvia we should have close to a mil freed up.
  17. Out of Col's 157 games how many did in put in for 100% of the game, how many games did he say to his teammates this is not good enough we can do better? Our young mids can look to Jones for leadership. You could replace Col's 157 games of experience with someone who has played 50 for the cats, hawks or swans.
  18. Sylvia is a massive talent but to date his career has been a massive disappointment. Moving to Freo won't fix everything, to play Ross Lyon's game plan you have to be switched on 100% of the time not just make the occasional cameo that were used to from Col. I said in an earlier post Chapman for 2 years would be more beneficial for our club than Col for 2. Will be interesting to see how he goes.
  19. big bodied player who has refused to string consecutive worthy performances together throughout his career. Coaches aren't to blame, Viney proved that. Obviously offered a contract reflecting his true worth. I can't wait till he kicks 3 goals against weaker opposition and has 25 touches and people get on here and cry about another player mistreated. Col is a freeloader and as someone has already mentioned he has been part of the problem. Col, sodd off I won't miss you.
  20. I can only hope the club has smartened up and he was only offered what reflects his output. As we know clubs must offer more in order to get players to shift clubs. I don't see this as a loss for us if we use the money and lure a quality mid.
  21. Our club would benefit more over the next two seasons with Chapman than Sylvia. Kinda of says a lot doesn't it.
  22. Crouch would be nice. Haven't the two clubs already had this discussion?
