So our big Round 1 win only effectively secured us another 700 members, taking us up to half Richmond's membership numbers. Not good enough in my view and we should all be pressuring Dees followers into becoming Dees SUPPORTERS by joining up.
-
Don't forget Petracca in that lot!
-
Excellent effort and well deserved by the lads (although I suspect that it will get up the nose of some Demonlanders seeing Watts there)!
-
When do they update our membership numbers? Surely somebody must have joined up since our win on the weekend?

Yes Old Dee, I was there in the halcyon days!

I think this new-found depth is the key! In previous years we have all gone into panic when we have had two injuries in a match. Now we are all wondering who to drop to allow Vince and Dawes to come into the team for Round 2. As long as we don't get two many LTIs to our key position players we should fare better than last year when we were without Clarke and Hogan (& Dawes) for the first Round and had a make-shift forward line (Frawley and Pederson) for the remainder of the year. This year, so far, Petracca (& Trengrove?) is the only (potential) star missing from our midfield/forward structure through LTI but we are able to cover.

As regards your claim: "Nationalities from ......the sub-continent are not sport .....mad like many of us", were you visiting the moon whilst the World Cup Cricket was on?

On the AFL website, Adam Curley, in his match preview, is predicting a 29 point win to GWS next week. We are starting as the underdogs against the expansion teams of superstars for consecutive weeks. Bring it on!

Look at the other post "Changes for Round 2" and you will find a myriad of suggestions (though none of them are easy)! There is little consensus so just as well that Demonland does not have responsibility for picking the team!
-
And it will keep us in the Top 4 for another glorious week!

Which player positively suprised you against GC
CBDees replied to Henrietta Lumbago's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think that is a shame as I suspect that he will similarly surprise when he hits his straps. -
Blowdy Good Effort!

I'll accept 12!

The day Petracca joins Brayshaw (and Stretch) in our side is hopefully the day that we see the end of Ollie Wines threads!

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 1, 2015
CBDees replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Tom McDonald 5 - Jack Watts 4 - Jeff Garlett 3 - Jack Viney 2 - Colin Garland 1 - Dom Tyson -
Actually Lyon mentions Watts as the fourth tall behind Frost (if he continues in the forward structure when Dawes returns). This will be even better, particularly with Garlett and JKH/Kent also in the mix!

Apart from being there as I will be lunching at the "G" from midday.

Is there anywhere apart from Demonland where we can follow the game?

I think that many on here are over sensitive about Grimes. Having said that, your defence of him is admirable and well placed. I would not be critical of Roos and the FD selecting Brayshaw and Vanders to plat this week; they were not gifted their spots: they earnt them! Whether they earned them in Casey practice games (Brayshaw) or the NAB Challenge (Vanders) is semantics. Howe is playing this weekend simply based on his performance on the training track and his past record. Similarly Vince didn't miss out because he wasn't good enough, simply because he wasn't ready for this week. The truth is, for the first time in years, we have depth - we don't need the Magners. Admittedly, we have shallow depth compared with some Clubs but we have depth nevertheless and it will only improve when Petracca (& Trenrove?) recovers and Neale-Bullen, Stretch and others are ready to play. Next year (presumably) we will have even more depth after another inspired draft/trade period and as O. McDonald, Hunt and White develop. Gradually however spots will emerge as Cross and Jamar eventually retire, and each year we endure the inevitable injuries to key players. It is something that Melbourne supporters are not accustomed to but will have to get used to as McCartney develops our young inductees. Good players will miss out each week, however deserving, and the coaching panel will continue to put together teams based on the opposition's strength rather than merely who is not injured (as we have had to do for the last few years). We haven't seen the last of Grimes!

Pure class and elite disposals! Just such a shame that we don't have Petracca out there as well!
-
I would like to think that we stand a better chance of getting wins over both Carlton and the Pies than (for example) the Lions and the Suns. Also most Demon supporters would derive more pleasure achieving wins over those smug xxxxxs! Having said that however I am quietly confident about tomorrow (as I have been about Round 1 for the last decade)!

As thevil1 has pointed out Grimes spot has been taken by Salem playing a new role. Brayshaw is not responsible for Grimes or any of the other six players missing any more than Vanders, Frosty or any of the others who, have earned their spots. The only one to blame is themselves and I suspect that they will all get a run in the starting 22 as soon as they force there way back via Casey.

Thanks for wasting a minute of my life. Why didn't you post this on April 1st?

I crave for the old days when we were second only to Collingwood!

Corrected after HH's response (i forgot about Carey): "The best thing about recording a decent win tomorrow is that it will spoil both Gary Lyon and Gerard Healey's football tips (and help both Wayne Carey and Dermott Brereton). It is a tragedy that the only past superstars of the game who have faith in us come from other Clubs rather than one of our own!"
