  1. Watching Friday night's game and lamenting on the six posters until half time, it occurred to me that there could be a fairer way of scoring that would result in more exciting football and create fairer scores. It would go like this: RETAINED UNDER THE CURRENT SYSTEM 6 points for kicking a goal 1 point if the ball is touched INTRODUCED UNDER THE NEW SYSTEM 18 points for kicking a poster (suddenly nobody would hit the posts if they tried) 9 points for outside 50 (like the NAB Challenge) 3 points if the ball is rushed (keeping the ball in play) -3 points for kicking between the goal and point posts (penalising bad skill levels and unduly rushed kicks) Just think, no rushed behinds, Hogan getting well rewarded for his close poster last Friday night, and accuracy and skill under being even more important than they are now. Just food for thought whilst watching Esendon's inaccuracy in front of goals yesterday.
  2. I still have my 90yo father's jacket from 1964. He is still a paid-up member but finally didn't renew his 'red seat' this year. Hopefully I can give it back to him to wear to the Grand Final next year!
  3. These points you made in post #11 were made very similar to points made earlier in post #04. In fact I think that you were in complete agreement!
  4. Gawn is the only player on an AFL list approaching Sandilands in height. (Ex-Freo player Robbie Warnock [Carlton] is third tallest.) If we don't use Fitzy to replace Jetta in the back half and help in the ruck then maybe Gawn might be used in lieu of Jamar for the Freo game only?
  5. There was minimal rain in the first half and they were no better. Both sides were beatable on today's display!
  6. Maybe for neither. The reality is that we will always have a few players out. Most unusual was that we started this year with only two (Petracca and Trengove). Although he adds depth, it may not necessarily be at the expense of anyone. After all, how many predicted that VandeBerg would be in our starting 22 each week and Grimes not?
  7. Having watched our mighty team prevail last night and the Bombers vs. the Pies this afternoon, we could well have a very good year. Both "finals contenders'" and they were both rubbish! Bring it on!
  8. I am even less happy with the Age today! The issue I got didn't have any report whatsoever on last night's game. So busy putting out yet another "Centenary of Anzac" issue to compete with their Herald-Sun rivals that they overlooked that there are a couple of footy tragics amongst their readership who still enjoy the back page.
  9. 6. Jones 5. VandeBerg 4. Michie 3. Vince 2. Salem 1. Brayshaw
  10. BB I agree with you on most posts but I think that the reverse is true if you cannot see that Jack's positive traits far outway his (so-called) negatives. He is a major contributor to the team, both in his own goals and his many goal assists.
  11. I reckon that we will beat them even if we are playing "away" for the third consecutive week! p.s. Shame that it is not a "home game" as we have won all our home games so far this year. (Bring on Freo next week!)
  12. 5/9 of the players on the banner we poached from other Clubs.
  13. Wow! Judging from Plapp's effusive praise for the Melbourne players performance at Casey, maybe we should let them play Richmond this Friday and give our first 22 the weekend off?
  14. Geez, I am guilty of only watching snippets of the replay and only noticed three of Watts goal assists this week. They more than compensated for any dropped mark or dropped head in value to our team.
  15. Midfield is looking even better if you put N. Jones and Vanders in it (& maybe even Neal-Bullen).I think you are a trifle heroic if you think Aish (a South Australian) would prefer to come here when both teams in his home state are more likely to provide him with a chance of playing in finals. Also what would motivate Brisbane to trade him for Watts?
  16. Look at the 'glass half full'! We are lucky to have a 200cm player on our list that our coaches can groom into a KPP at either end. He is too young to discard this early and we have already seen players like Martin and Pike go off and achieve success at the Lions.
  17. It is not average for Garlett!
  18. In the snippets of the game I saw, Watts was responsible for at least three goal assists, including Newton's first goal and (correct me if I am wrong) both of Hogan's goals.
  19. Precisely as BbO forgot to mention the washing up!
  20. Every team in both the AFL and VFL hasa 20cm+ forward!
  21. Actually it isn't our 'home turf', it is our third 'away' game in as many weeks! Notwithstanding it being a Richmond 'home' game, I am quietly confident that we can give them a run for their money despite playing 'away'! p.s. We should never have opened the door and allowed Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon, Hawthorn and now Carlton take up residence in our traditional (& spiritual) home!
  22. 6. Vince 5. McDonald 4. HL 3. Jones 2. Brayshaw 1. Watts
  23. I doubt that Watts will be dropped if you go back and look at his goal assists. There is more to team value than merely selecting your 22 hardest players!
