CASEY: 2020 Fixture & News
Based on the practice match form, Casey would be very thin and not really competitive against teams like Port, Werribee and Williamstown. The team only has about 9-10 VFL experienced players and then about another 9-10 under 18 graduates. They would need to recruit another 5-6 players including key CHB, CHF, Ruck and a quality onballer. There may some VFL listed players from the AFL reserves clubs like Essendon, Footscray, Collingwood etc who like Hustwaite would see benefit in playing this shortened season. Likely structure so far: Munro Hutchins White Ellison* Xxxxx Vella DiPasquale Mutimer Sparkes* Lewis Xxxxx McCaffrey Briggs Smith* Xxxxx Courtney* Hustwaite Xxxx Int. Hourigan* Johnson Modica Goonan* emerg. Grey* Lambie* Baldi* *under18s graduates

CASEY: 2020 Fixture & News
Yes he showed promise. Perhaps too much. Signed with Woodville-West Torrens Eagles for 2020.

TEAM: Rd 03 vs Essendon
Maybe Tomlinson to play forward. We have plenty of others to play through the middle.

TEAM: Rd 03 vs Essendon
Is it predicted to rain on Sunday? Tmcd as only tall forward and heโs underperforming. Gawn will be exhausted again. No wonder he tired last week in the last quarter. Hurley and Hooker will control the โairโ within back 50. We will need to move the ball quickly.

CASEY: 2020 Fixture & News
Just wondering about Declan Kielty returning. He was a very good key defender or key forward. Would be handy for Casey as a new addition. Was going to play for Bentleigh in 2020.

Weideman's Future?
Yes itโs becoming a big concern. We had high hopes for Hogan and Weideman to be our key forwards. Hogan is gone and now we can only hope the club puts faith in Weideman this year. Itโs amazing to think at 22yrs, he still needs development whilst Jackson is in ahead of him. Give the Weid 7-8 games to show what he can deliver. I think the Pies will be circling as they need to key forward with Cox injury prone and Ben Reid now well past it.

Greatest wins (best 50 in the last 50 years)
Good times. Alas I didnโt go this one. I did go in 84 because it was around my birthday (16th) and we went to see my aunt at Geelong and my Dad, my uncle (a Cats man) and I went to the footy. The Dees lost but it was close and Templeton kicked a bag. I remember sitting on those โone rowโ of wooden bench around the boundary. My Dad and Uncle John stood behind me enjoying some liquid bevies. It was a rough affair as I remember a big fight and the crowd being pretty rough and ready. Such was the time at the suburban grounds. Moorabin, Windy Hill and Vic Park of course were the most colourful for my teenage years. I was amazed by the stark vast empty stands as I was spoilt by attending most Dees games at the G or VFL Park.

Oliver: The Forgotten Superstar?
Hamish โItโs all meโ Mclachlan loves Cripps. He took one big mark and goal last week but imo he was BEATEN by Clarry Oliver. Iโm not sure he even saw the match. Ridiculous

Weideman's Future?
I am puzzled often by the way we do things.

Angus Brayshaw
Brayshaws 2018 was excellent and he brings a lot to our team. Good mid runner with skills on left and right. Iโm not setting the bar as high as 2018. Oliver-Viney-Petracca-Harmes-Langdon-Brayshaw-Sparrow. Thatโs my midfield group for this year and beyond. Kill the BRAYSHAW trade talk.

Injury List 2020
Hore can be on ice for a few weeks. Literally!! May-Lever-Smith as our 3 defenders hopefully for a few more weeks. But Smith will need to show more. Goody will back him imo.

NON MFC: Round 03
Clarkson has assembled a good squad again. Plenty of talent. Frost and Frawley are certainly very capable key tall defenders. They look familiar!!!!! Their worry is midfield pace and smaller players yet the Tigers slipped and fumbled all night. Did not take their chances. Circa their pre 2017 form.

Weideman's Future?
Heโs clearly the new whipping boy Watts 2017 Frost 2018 Weid 2019. Itโs unfortunate because heโs got huge potential. IMO WE NEED TO PLAY HIM FOR THE NEXT 6-7 GAMES TO SAY โHERE IS YOUR CHANCE. Yet Goodwin may see and entertain a trade opportunity here.

By the way, last weeks win over the Blues is not in the list of greatest victories!!!

CASEY: 2020 Fixture & News
Hustwaite is on board. Good move by Casey. Hopefully Jason Taylor is watching because this kid has AFL potential. I think an invite to Billy Guerts, an exciting former Stingray in 2018, who played in 2019 in Mornington Peninsula league and led Dromana to a grand final win. Big lad. Good ruck option to help Caseyโs ruck division. Signed by VFL Pies but should be available.

Greatest wins (best 50 in the last 50 years)
No.17 2017 Round 14 v West Coast Eagles at Subiaco The Dees were up and firing. We faced a tough road trip but had our confidence up. Both teams were on 7 wins (5 losses) so a crucial match up. But the Dees had not won in WA since 2002 and hadnโt beaten the Eagles since 2009. The Eagles were as arrogant as ever. Yet this 2017 Demon team had started to break through the longstanding run of losses. Weโd won 3 in a row including a Queens Birthday epic against the Pies and smashed the reigning premiers the Bulldogs by 10 goals in the previous game. A big question though was where would our goals come from? Hogan was out and Watts copped a hamstring injury late against the Dogs. The game opened in frenetic style as it was a hot contest. Our ball movement and run was good on the vast Subiaco surface. It was goal for goal in the first half and we led by a goal at half time. A half time melee erupted as Hunt got smashed by McGovern. As we watched on the TV, there was a sense that we werenโt going to be pushed aside. In the third we had chances to pull clear but made some critical mistakes. The Eagles got one goal clear at 3/4 qtr time. The Eagles got the first goal in the last. Would we be overrun? The Dees kept in it with Petracca and Harmesy getting good goals but then the Eagles hit back with 2 more goals and we were 16 points down at the 20 minute mark. I remember feeling like it was a good effort but the roaring crowd, umpires and more experienced Eagles might pull away. (I think the Eagles again at home had about double our free kicks). This Demon team however wasnโt ready to be silenced. Pedersen took a great pack mark about 20 metres out and goaled, followed by a Tom McDonald goal. Back to 4 points. With under a minute left Michael Hibberd launched a ball deep inside the Dees goal, it hit Pedersens hands, bounced at right angles, picked up by Tom McDonald who spun in a McGovern tackle and snapped a left foot ball from 8 metres out. We were in front. We jumped around in the living room as we saw the Dees players now all sweep to the defensive half. Could we hang on? The Eagles launched an attack only for Jordan Lewis to take a matchsaving mark on the siren. What a victory. We broke the drought against the Eagles. The players celebrated like weโd won a final. It was huge. Jack Viney starred. 40 possessions. Huge. Tom McDonald- 5 goals. Amazing effort. The defence Frost, Lewis and Hibberd. Bernie Vince was almost BOG as he rebounded and setup our run. Tyson and Oliver were great. It was truly a great victory. Definitely one to remember. Melbourne 15.9.99 defeated West Coast Eagles 14.12.96

CASEY: 2020 Fixture & News
Again have to stress that it will be hard to see Casey play against Williamstown, Port Melbourne or Werribee that are cashed up and compete well against the AFL blended aligned teams. Maybe a win or two is the outlook. Two players that I am looking forward to seeing are Kurt Mutimer (ex WC Eagles) and Ryan Sparkes (Gippsland under 18s). Mutimer was unlucky to be delisted by Eagles and has strong AFL qualities. Excellent disposal. Sparkes is a strongly built wing type with good pace and skilled on either side. Both are ones to watch in the โshortโ VFL season.

Injury List 2020
Agree. I think his cerebral health is crucial and I hope the Dees support him through with access to medical professionals. Itโs unfortunate but his footy career is likely to be over.

Great coaching from Goody

Greatest wins (best 50 in the last 50 years)
The Bombers were still a top team but had to play the Hawks, Eagles and Pies twice (and lost) in 1991 as the draw started to become more skewed. They had lost to the Hawks and Eagles in the last two rounds but Sheedy had declared them as ready to go for the finals. The 1991 win over the Bombers was a great come from behind victory.
