Christian Salem Re-Signs for 5 Years
Not sure if this is overs or unders in the current environment. I know the cap was increased but post Covid, revenue is lower and budgets tighter. I thought Oliver and Petracca would be $700k-$750k per year on their next contracts. It certainly is huge $$$ for blokes in their early-mid20s, or indeed anyone imv.

Christian Salem Re-Signs for 5 Years
4 year deal at $550k would be starting offer. He’s a lock for our starting 18 and in my current top 10 players at the club (#9).

Casey Demons vs Williamstown
That would be a huge boost. Maybe they could each play a half at full forward. I think we’d have to get them through two games before senior selection. I thought tom McDonald did ok in round 1 but he’s not the answer across CHF/FF. Need Weid and Ben Brown in the MFC line up.

CHANGES: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Stop the cats 1. Make Tom Stewart accountable and man him up. He is the loose man and intercept mark. He leads counter attacks. 2. Stop the Tomahawk. See Steven May 3. Stop Cam Guthrie and Mitch Duncan. Selwood is good but Guthrie and Duncan do the gut running and get 30-35 possessions. 4. Play at a pace. Don’t go slow. The cats get back quickly and are very good at defending in zones and spaces. You must take in the game and break lines. 5. O’Connor will go to Oliver. We must help Clarry and get him support. Etc etc

We Won
Great to see Salem, Kelly and Hunt having a chat after the game. Agree the deal is probably a break even though Kelly is the type of classy midfielder we need to compliment our midfield bulls.

Welcome to Demonland: Trent Rivers
I’ve been a huge fan from when he was drafted. He has energy, toughness, good skills, good pace and takes the game on. Perfectly suited to 10 years across half back. The Riv is one of JTs absolute best. ??

CHANGES: Rd 04 vs Geelong
? On Sparrow Spargo Jetta but a winning team so no need for changes it’s a nice position to be in Melksham and Hibberd on the fringe and could come in

Preferred Midfield Mix
After watching the Bulldogs and Swans, we do need another 1-2 quick mids to play wing or rotating half forward. Role currently played by Jones or Vandenburg but they don’t have the pace or energy to fill that role. We have the contested bulls. Viney. Trac. Clarry. Gus and Harmes also probably more inside mid. Sparrow and Jordan are strong at the footy. We have the contest covered. It’s the run and carry and spread. We have Langdon but he’s roaming the wing. I’d like a Bailey Smith type to have another burst of pace to get clear. It sounds like a few in this years draft pool but we probably won’t get a first-10 draft pick.

Luke Jackson's last quarter
Jackson is NEARLY here. Clearly his leap at ruck work, 2nd efforts and midfielder agility are huge assets. His marking is generally good. Needs to develop his kicking and get physically stronger. Howard was able to outmark him on numerous occasions just with body position.

Casey Demons vs North Melbourne
Bedford and Pickett together will scare a lot of defenders

Both are from the Sydney academy priority system. Even playing field !!!!

Clayton Oliver Contract negotiations
He’s an absolute star. If he could just get his disposal efficiency up, he’d be equal to Dusty Martin. 5 year deal. $4mil. $800k a year. That’s fair. Anything more is probably stretching the friendship.

Welcome to Demonland: James Jordon
JJ backed up round 1 with another good effort v Saints. Had 20 possessions and 9 tackles. Seems composed and solid with the footy. Still only 20 (December 2000).

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
Wow. Kozzzzzzzy is so exciting. Just needs to land a few goals that were gettable and back himself. He could kick 5 or 6 one night very soon. His goal in the 2nd quarter should be goal of the week imv

Angus Brayshaw
A few years ago we thought he’d be a real star. Then the concussion concerns meant we are lucky to be seeing him on the paddock. Brayshaw was very quiet v Saints. Had 7 touches up to 3/4 time and then a better last quarter. Played wing for most of the night. Had three inside 50s in last quarter. I’d keep him in as the team is performing.
