Best and Fairest Top 5

Absolutely. We gave up goals too easily in the last minute of every game. Last game v bombers, they scored two goals after the siren for qtr time and 3/4 qtr time. Ridiculous.

It’s completely BS. I’d pick May in my team ahead of any of these blokes. Ffs.

It’s a joke. May was clearly the best key defender in the league.
-
Not even in the squad. What a joke!!! He is better than Jonas, Weitering and Andrews. Seriously had a fantastic year. AFL AA Selectors are a JOKE What games were the selectors watching??? He beat every key forward. Everyone. What more could he have been !?!?!? I’m ANGRY

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
spirit of norm smith replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
Anger Sadness Disappointment Frustration I feel this incident has really soured the goodwill and good news factor in Bennell getting back and playing. And how must Steven May be feeling. He backed Harley and urged the Dees to give him a chance. The players supported him to get through. I know it’s going to be a heartbreaking decision. Bennell has ultimately eroded the trust of the club and probably will pay the price. BUT WE MUST REMEMBER THE HUMAN SIDE TO THIS. MENTAL ILLNESS IS RISING AND NO MATTER THE OUTCOME, HARLEY NEEDS TO CONTINUE TO GET THE HELP NEEDED TO SUPPORT HIM. -
2020 Keith "Bluey" Truscott Trophy
spirit of norm smith replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’m not calling it a failure year at all. 2019 was a complete failure. 2020 showed what we can deliver but it should be remembered as an inconsistent and crazy year. Hard to gauge and I still believe we got shafted by the fixture. Nonetheless the top 6 are daylight our best for the year. I’d love to see Trac win it and agree Langdon is a smoky. Steven May could surprise as his efforts and strength in every game should be rewarded by the coaches. -
Compulsory viewing. Great bloke. He was the legend that got us back into the finals in 87. I’m sure they will show his anger with Stynes after he ran through the mark in the 87 prelim. We perhaps should have got a premiership in his years but somehow missed out.

Welcome to Demonland: Bayley Fritsch
spirit of norm smith replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’m nominating Fritsch for that SAS AUSTRALIA show. That might be a wake up call for his need for greater intensity and reduce his stress level for goal kicking. -
I was a fan as the record shows. He was always a Yes so not surprised how he has performed at AFL level. Eagles grabbed him at pick 26. We had to settle for Charlie Spargo.

My 3 word player analysis for 2020
spirit of norm smith replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree 100% Joeboy. Well done. “Weid - up then down” was my assessment. He got his chance finally after we were screaming for his inclusion. Showed enough in first few games to show his marking and goalkicking and even to provide a contest. But his last 5 games were soft. I went to the Giants and Bombers games and he was pushed off the footy and simply dropped his head. He jogged around and refused to do the tough things. His intensity is lacking and seems like a nice boy playing a mans game. Cannot believe his grandfather was a beast. I just want to shake him and get him to run through brick walls again and again. -
Maybe that’s the win win strategy. Let him play the next 6 games in 2021 and carry him off in emotional scenes on the G. His experience and steadiness might be needed next year.
-
Agree. Sign up for 2021. He’s a good honest natural footballer. Showed enough to get another year. His hunger and smart footy was very much needed in our forward line. A true Pedersen type.

I just cannot see Joel Smith staying in the list. He was pathetic on the weekend and seems lost. Sure he might be better as a forward imo but we have too many of that mid sized half forward types anyway. Perhaps we failed in his development and another Goodwin failure casualty.
