Score review???? Really. Umps all were in good position. De Goey should have said “I didn’t kick it”. Game is a joke.

Ben King. Should be a star but he is very soft right now. Falls over and misses the ball a lot. Just not tonight but also on dry days. I agree he needs the gym work but fails the basics. Actually very happy with May trade.

Just to correct Langdon was drafted by Freo at pick 54 in 2014. JT passed him up on picks 40, 42 and 53 (Anb, Stretch and OMac). JT has a great record with the low picks. And yes we all love the new Riv.

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good half forward type AFL player. Definitely shows talent and will get drafted. We have plenty of similar type players. -
Lots of green ticks for JT. He is very very good. If only he’d been at MFC for 2007-12. I have every confidence in him getting us more and more quality kids. The only strange one is 2018 and I’d love to have a beer with him to discuss it We’d lost to the Eagles and had shown problems in pace and run. I remember losing to the Saints in 2018 and thought we needed more young outside mids and wingers. I think JT was hoping for Xavier Duursma or perhaps Sam Sturt to be available but both were gone by our pick. Tom Sparrow at 27. He’s a good kid and will be good but unsure how he fits our midfield structure as we had 5-6 inside mids already proven on the books and needed the outside run and pace. Most draft watchers had him in the 45-60 range. Will Hamill from Stingrays had been ranked early 20s and I thought we were ready to pounce. Hamill went to Crows at 30 James Jordan at 33. Another young inside mid who can play outside and has skill. Was ranked about 60-rookie range so a big call at 33. Again not sure he was our need. Bailey Williams was the big agile ruckman who dropped from top 15 range to be available. Maybe because we had traded in Preuss was why we skipped on Williams. Eagles stole him at 35. Sure we got Jackson as the next gen young ruckman but only because of a horrible MFC 2019.

Ins. Harmes Lockhart consider if fit - Sparrow Hibberd Outs. Neale-Bullen ? Jetta (shoulder?) on the edge - Hunt J. Smith bombers dangers are 1- mids Shiel. Merrett. Smith. Parish. Need to tag Shiel 2- forwards. Daniher stringer and mcg-tip-wuti. May gets Daniher and probably put Tomlinson on stringer 3- backs. Saad for his run and Ridleys marking. Need Melksham to “tag” Saad and have someone contest with Ridley across marking half back as he has the most defensive marks across the last month. Assume Hooker and Heppell miss again. Have to win it no matter what the Dogs do

Trent Rivers Rising Star?
spirit of norm smith replied to Sydney Pennski's topic in Melbourne Demons
So Rivers kicks the winning goal in a tough elimination finals type game and he misses out. Surely you have look beyond the pure stats. Even Rivers spoil in the last 15 seconds showed his heart and toughness to match his skill and run. Sholl played a good game in a match that counted for nothing really. -
Give him a $1000 fine for rough play. And move on. But agree it’s one that a lesser player would be worried about. Neale is red hot favourite and probably will win by 6-7 votes

Demonland Player of the Year - Rd 17
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have Salem in for 1 vote. He showed a lot more endeavour and his kicks went forward and not sideways and short. I don’t rate disposals efficiency for him sometimes because of the short sideways chip kicks but he was much better on Saturday night. His goal late in the 3rd quarter was crucial and brought us back into the game. A step forward. -

Charles Spargo - A Grade Small Defender (2021 Edition)

Last night. 8 kick outs. 7 were kicked to Gawn and the other was May to Salem. The kick out to Gawn (7) is not effective. Four times it was a turnover and twice led to Giants goals. The Giants knew what was coming and got extra players over to that contest. May had two or three options and had the distance to find alternatives but chose the standard. I know footy is all structured but this is too predictable imo and easily blocked.

Trent Rivers Rising Star?

Brown was smart and played a huge role as a key target. Weid gave us nil. Nil. He really looks lost when he’s got a tough opponent. Doesn’t work hard enough. No gut runs.

6 May the rock 5 Rivers the gun 4 Langdon the roadrunner 3 Petracca the bull 2 Oliver the beast 1 Salem the clever Baker kicked vital goals. Deserves next week. Gawn has a huge heart but small brain. Lever had a shocker of a 1st half but 2nd Half was good. Jetta stood up when needed. Love Kozzy but needs to kick straight and one grab footy. Viney? Neal-Bullen? Weid? Must lift. Surely they were the 3 stinkers !!! Actually the 3 umps were all skunks. -
How good was Trent Rivers. Fantastic rookie. Surely gets the Rising Star nomination this week. Riv is a gun.

Yes he’s a gun

I agree. Our skills are horrible and even worse in difficult conditions. At least the Gabba is sheltered more than Metricon or Cazaly stadiums.

Inability to kick in the wind
spirit of norm smith replied to Rodney (Balls) Grinter's topic in Melbourne Demons
Windy here in Brisbane. Interesting to see if Goodwin can coach a basic skill like kicking with or kicking against the breeze. Good Skills are required and our squad mostly lack skill. But it’s about decision making and being smart. Actually another key deficiency. I’m sure we will go in hard and win contested footy but using the pill is critical. Tonight we have to be smart. -
I think the term is “hot and cold”. It certainly does age us and caused unwanted stress levels. Beautiful 24c up here today (it was 22c at 10am for my sons soccer game). Breeze might be a factor. It’s about a 20km southerly today and given our problem with windy days (v dogs and v swans) it might be a problem. Skilled disposal required !!
