Ffs. Hamish Mcmoneylan loves the Swans. “what a great year they’re having. Definitely better than expected and showing great form “. No mention of the Dees until the last minute. Richo at least acknowledging the Dees in patches. why the love affair with the Swans.

Jack Watts Back in the Red & Blue
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great story. Jack is back enjoying his footy with some mates. Jack has always been a lad, and loves the social side of life and footy. It was the intensity of the AFL and the restrictions on social life. He’s a great young man, intelligent, fun loving and a talented sportsman. Hope he enjoys his footy life and showing his footy talent.- 35 replies

Try test of us will be against the dogs. They killed us for outside run and pace last year through JJ, Smith and even Crozier down back to propel attacks. They evened out and then beat us on the inside after half time. We have improved and so have they. Guys across half fwd like ANB, Spargo, Melksham and Fritsch will have to step up big time to stop their rebounds. No matter where we sit, that’s the match to test us imv.

After last night, Tommy mcd stays forward. Was clearly our best forward and 4 straight was a good result. Interesting interview post match. Clearly he recognized he was a little overweight and needed more short metre speed and agility. Worked on “Zig zag running over 20 metres at speed”. Turning and burst speed required. This has given him a new edge. Aerobically he was all fine. I also think one grab marking has improved. He fumbled a lot last year and I thought his eyes needed checking. Last night his ball handling in the wet was excellent.

My 3 word player analysis V Sydney
spirit of norm smith replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Rivers was important again. Not in the best but in the last quarter, he has 3-4 clearances out of the back 50, spoils and some important tackles. Three words “Plays his role”. “Reliable when asked “ -
Red alerts 1 centre clearances 4-17 2 Contested marks 4-11 Swans definitely were high in pressure and contested footy. Two reasons why we won 1 Our defence won the game The back 6 were so strong once again 2 Tommy mcd. Another excellent game. 4 goals.

Yes he was frustrating. Harmesy wins the footy runs strongly BUT turnovers and not picking the right options. Hope he just views the packages and gets the feedback to make the right first time options.

6 McDonald Goals were crucial Good marking Agile 5 May Stopped Franklin Steady under pressure Kicks it 50+ out of defence 4 Salem Steady Won the footy Used it to advantage (excused him one clanger handball) 3 Oliver In every clearance contest Goes and goes and tackles and wins it His disposal still lets him down again and again 2 Hibberd So strong in every contest Tackles and smothers and negated swans attack Did the job on Papley 1 Jordon Improving each week Strong at the footy and won the footy Did the job on Parker It’s just not counting the possessions. Trac and Harmesy were good to win the footy but not effective and often turned over the footy. Both got caught too many times not giving the first option and tried to do too much.

They always talk about the Spirit of the Bloods. Many commentators say they never bottom out and are always strong. Really. It’s also the extra salary cap concession they have previously had to keep them grabbing players and also their “academy “. Heeney,Mills,Blakey,Campbell,Gulden. -

AFL Mid Season Draft 2021
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes. He has turned into one of the top VFL midfielders (wing/ruck rover). Has good pace and excellent skills. Won Port Melbourne B&F in 2019. Has returned this year even fitter and stronger. Took on some StKilda listed players last week and beat them in the contest and spread. I guess we are ok for mids but he could play a role on the wing. I think we probably need a wing/outside pace (Templeton/ Bravo) and/or perhaps another insurance key defender (Coughlan).
