Injury List - Season 2019
he didn't play against the Bombers but if he did play this week... even for a half that would be great. Haven't heard about Hannan This weeks game is against Port Melbourne who are a non aligned team which generally means that their across the board team strength is quite high.

Injury List - Season 2019
If Weideman is unavailable for Casey and they take two travelling emergencies to Perth the AFL listed players available for Casey will be around 5. In theory the emergencies could take the red eye back to Melbourne and be available for Casey on Saturday at 2pm. Not ideal but possible. Had a look at the league wide injury lists and many clubs have long lists. Collingwood was near ours in number for example. I realise it all about who is out and for how long but the quality of our depth which has been a problem for years is really showing.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
I love some high brow reading early in the day: "Adopting Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of capital, field and habitus along with Loïc Wacquant’s understanding of neoliberalism as the reengineering and redeployment of the state,I illustrate the use of elite sport as a form of cultural glue to re-regulate the city in favourof market-like mechanisms thatbenefit the urban and political elite. The Victorian state has successively re-regulated this neoliberal urban entrepreneurial strategy, often preventing dissident groups from resisting neoliberal activities, through its monopoly over the legitimate use of symbolic and material violence."

Has the 6-6-6 Rule Backfired?
I'm surprised the extended kick out rule hasn't added to the number of coast to coast goals but it seems that the zone has just been moved out and we are not seeing much change. As LDC mentions all these rules should have been trialed at length in other competitions.

love it... not only the mega training facility but the trainline to go with it. Think Ryalh? used to live at Macedon during the Bolte days... he had his own carriage that would be coupled to the normal commuter train. I'm excited.

Sam Weideman + contract
Oh boy... I am having flashbacks to the last high draft pick that just needed a bit of hip surgery. Come on down ... Jimma T Hard to see how this season could get worse

Target 70,000
The point of my post is that maybe 10k or thereabouts of our increased membership might simply be due to better sponsorship. I'll wager a few that the NT government takes a swag of 3 game memberships that are given away. Frankly the numbers are so rubbery it's time to use another measure. If only the clubs were consistent in their accounting one could look at revenue per member and other useful measures. Loosely related and on the theme of you think we have it bad, here's a great article from the Guardian on the fan impact of four English teams making the European play offs. A trip to Azerbaijan anyone ?? https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/may/12/liverpool-and-spurs-fans-hard-lesson-basic-economics-champions-league

If the Possums were allowed to run free we could have Dame Edna as Premier
-
Target 70,000
One has to wonder how many memberships relate directly to sponsors and incentives. From a revenue viewpoint it makes no difference if the sponsor gives us $100k or buys 3,000 three game memberships which they give away etc. Similarly win games we give more.. make finals we give even more. The reality is that it is probably a mix but it is there. Trivia piece... At the famous merger meeting the MFC Board held more proxies through sponsor memberships than the rest of the attendees.

Making the finals
3 out of 4 would get me interested. The likelihood is 1 out of 4... we should luck into one win. The interesting conundrum is if we win 2 out of 4. TBH the problem is that even our wins have been very unconvincing. Just hard to see us turning it around in the next month

Essendon VFL v Casey Demons - Round 6
There is definitely something in what you say and it is one of the reasons I have suggested we should aggressively experiment with positions, gameplans and skill development at VFL level. I would support alternative week strategies or even alternative quarter strategies. VFL is not about winning.. it is about maximising the chances of the senior team. Hell we've had a successful VFL team for years and it has not produced many players for the seniors. In the last quarter on Saturday we were 50 points up at 3/4 time and the direction from the coach was to implement game plan Joker. I've heard this direction before and my guess it means take more risks but to my uneducated eye I didn't see a real difference.

We may not like it but is it time to consider a mega shared facility. The reality is that there will not be 10 Essendon style complexes built in Melbourne. If we continue as a bit player we will lose out unfortunately. It's the reality.

Changes vs West Coast
The irony is that he was moved forward at VFL level because we had surplus defenders at senior level

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Interesting .. Tigers face exactly the same problem as us but they have money. Lot's of soul searching but they will bite the bullet in the next few years. Why not get out in front of them. Moving to Punt Road would probably not be a great idea as it represents the past albeit a slight upgrade on the present. I will wager you that the grandstand is heritage listed... would you like your club to train in yellow and black surrounds with the possibility of a giant tiger face on the roof.

The new training grounds involve two ovals and an aircraft hangar size internal training facility plus the gymnasium, pool and of course the admin facility. You are speaking of major space.

Round 8 Non MFC Matches
guess who they have beaten ?
-
Round 8 Non MFC Matches
Let me explain... the blunt bulldozer works against the kick it around style of the hawks if you can prevent the slingshot attack that killed us last year. Against a fast run and carry/outside gameplan it fails. Geelong, GWS, Saints, Suns and a few others all play this style
-
Round 8 Non MFC Matches
Incredibly boring game but credit where it is due... Clarkson is the master of the game plan. Like a python squeezing the life out of its prey before devouring it. GWS will take us to pieces if we play the blunt bulldozer gameplan in our present form.

Essendon training facility..... Address: 275 Melrose Dr, Melbourne Airport VIC 3045 12 kms from Windy Hill and 4k straight down Melrose Drive to terminal 3. Essendon airport is on the other side of the freeway and 5k back the other way. It is nowhere near the spiritual home of the Bombers at Windy Hill. Anyway Casey is in the metropolis of Melbourne...

Changes vs West Coast
Agree Old dee. The only one who had a pick me game was Preuss but as posted elsewhere Essendon were very short of talls. If Weideman is fit I would play him and Preuss up forward allowing T Mac to go back. Let's be honest we stand no chance against the Eagles unless we think out of the square. Even then we would need a miracle.

no they are at Tullamarine 12 kms from the old Windy Hill...think across the freeway from Gladstone Park... nothing remotely "Essendon" about the location

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Interesting that the Bombers have almost completely abandoned Windy Hill. When I was there yesterday there was little signage or the like identifying it as Essendon. Sure a couple of the stands had the names of famous past players and some seats had the old... "reserved for Essendon past players and officials" stenciled on them but if you had not known the history it was just a suburban ground with a few more facilities than the old Brunswick Street ground occupied by Fitzroy all those years ago. What I am trying to say is that the Bombers left their patch years ago. It can be done.
