  1. we don't have much luck when it comes to the signing window... the spreadsheet boys would have had him in at base plus say $100-150k giving around $250k at most. Another three or four decent games and you can probably add another $100k per annum. Ironically it could seal Garlett's fate.
  2. Has to be a worry... other than Melksham that is arguably our best forward set up. Imagine if we had our usual inaccuracy. Hopefully we see more structure next week. Here's an example of unstructured play.. Gawn has a shot for goal and decides to put it fifteen metres out. Pack flies and knocks it to the 25 metre line where Docker player grabs it and they're off. Surely Gawn has a pre determined signal to team mates telling them what he is going to do and the crumbers know where they should run to??
  3. Hope this fog lifts for the early start. Casey radio showing coverage of the VFL game between Werribee and Williamstown... strange..
  4. May as well continue with Petty and see if he can make it. His trajectory certainly flattened after his call up last year. Worth noting that Baker had not been starring at vfl level but is now showing early promise at AFL level.
  5. Thought Hunt had a reasonable.not great game... pressured well and was one of few forwards who continually presented. The forward structure was woeful. Those two second quarter goals were almost painful to watch.
  6. I see according to the AFL stats we almost broke even on centre clearances. Strange because I can barely remember one good clearance. I raise this because we have the best or second best ruckman and Oliver who is at the top of the clearance specialists. What I saw was a lot of fumbles and good wide clearances by Freo that were then well defended by our Defence who no doubt won us the game. Great win and hopefully a good follow up next week against the Lions... Could Preuss get a game..probably not
  7. Very enjoyable game. As I said during the game thread because of our season it had no stress for me but when we hit the front by eight odd points i I must confess to some nervousness. Pleasant day at the mcg. Thought May had a good game. And boy those great overhead marks in the last few minutes. Looking forward to seeing a lot of smiling faces at Casey game tomorrow at Coburg
  8. Lucky this is a meaningless game otherwise it could be quite stressful
  9. Can we play that badly in the second half. Hard to imagine a less functional forward line. Have only seen Hunt leading and he has not been able to hold his marks. Not sure if we have had a clean center clearance
  10. Pretty bad when dizzy demons is more enjoyable than the football
  11. Getting killed out of the middle. Weid misses three marks. Will be a long day
  12. Not quite on topic but a very good read: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/22/whats-behind-the-afls-sudden-insistence-that-the-game-has-indigenous-beginnings "In 1998 the AFL dedicated a monument to Wills at Moyston, close to where he lived as a child. It reads, “While playing as a child with Aboriginal children in this area he developed a game which he later utilised in the formation of Australian Football.” Yet as recently as 2017, presented with new documentary evidence by historian Jenny Hocking that Marn Grook was played where Wills was raised (this was previously said by Hibbins and others to be most unlikely) the AFL said, “The debate is really one between historians as to what Wills was exposed to.”
  13. Expecting not much more than we delivered against GWS but will be happy if wrong. The three outs have certainly deflated the interest in this match. Why would anyone boo Hogan... infantile to say the least for those who do. Crowd wise if we crack 20k we will do well.. certainly won't have to worry about having less than half a section to myself in the AFL members.
  14. we have Maynard, Stretch, ANB and JKH all coming up for renewal. Cannot delist them all.. which do you keep and more particularly how long an extension do you offer. As earlier posted re the Kent situation another club may offer them a longer term.
  15. nope... the ball is dead from a player controlling it etc...play from a ball kicked before the siren continues.. eg a touched behind
  16. Interesting that you raise the Bentleigh club in a thread where many have lamented the absence of a social club. I have little knowledge of the place but without pokies would it have survived and was it ever used as a social club?
  17. Looking at the official injury report Garlett may be done for the season. Dislocated shoulder .. apparently worse than his pre season injury. “Jeffy injured that shoulder in a tackling drill. It was the shoulder he dislocated up in Shepparton against Richmond in the JLT game. He just had an incident at training where he dislocated it again and it’s probably worse than the first time. He’s going to see a surgeon on Monday – not necessarily to have surgery but just to get some advice. We’ve got to wait until we get some thoughts from the surgeon before we know a timeframe.”
  18. How do you get injured from a bye... what a joke ........ Is there no end to this terrible season
  19. think I'll watch the cricket
  20. Great memories. People tend to forget how big the VFA was in its heyday. By pioneering live TV coverage of its games it rivalled the VFL for a while. Hard to put a finger on why it all fell away but can probably be traced to when the AFL/VFL moved from being controlled by the clubs to its commission system of management.
  21. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48614569 Arsenal director of high performance Darren Burgess is set to leave the Emirates after two years with the club. It is understood Burgess, 45, was sacked days after the Gunners' 4-1 Europa League final defeat by Chelsea.
  22. it's not the advertising... it's the AFL taking the money It's a bigger issue than pokies if you take a step back... It is mainstreaming a minority activity... think on it.
  23. I read this on the changes thread a half hour ago just after I posted how strong the Casey team should be due to the reduction in the injury list. Words fail me.. except to say it must be a very sore foot if it's still there after a week off.
