  1. 1.St Kilda... Collingwood will be top 4 and we are looking for the bottom half of the 8 2.Brisbane... keeps both Adelaide and Brisbane within a bulls roar of MFC 3 Geelong (see 1) 4. Freo... see 2 5.North v Swans... probably irrelevant but if one needs to pick perhaps Swans .. would hate to be playin North for a spot in the 8 in Round 23 in Tasmania. 6.Suns... see 2 7. Richmond... will make the 8 whereas we compete with Hawthorn 8. Giants but a Carlton upset would be okay
  2. out of interest why do you think that? Petty's game last week was on the better side of okay and they certainly aren't like for like.
  3. Cannot understand the Preuss non selection. His game last week was almost outstanding. If he wasn't selected he should be at Casey building up his tank and perfecting his forward role. Taking him as an emergency is just strange. Weidman's non appearance for Casey along with Spargo is equally perplexing. With the two injuries at the senior level last week to Melksham and Hibberd the team structure is becoming non existent.
  4. this problem with the gameplan has been around since its inception. One that went against the grain was that magnificent win against Hawthorn in last year's final mainly due to Gunston's inaccuracy.
  5. still sore.. I suppose Pity.. I was hoping to see Weid and Charlie on the weekend but not to be. If I get along it will give me a chance to concentrate on Bedford and Chandler
  6. No Charlie Spargo ? And is that fabulous Dion the train Johnstone lining up for Port.
  7. that is correct apparently for a free agent it just goes into the salary cap irrespective of whether it is actually paid or not. The rationale is that free agency involves compensatory picks so the whole deal must be honoured. ( Sounds strange I know). For a traded player they are treated as any other contracted player. If they retire due to career ending illness the payout goes into the salary cap for the year in which paid. If however the illness is not career ending it is a negotiation between the player and the club. Tippet did not get his full payout for example... Because the ankle reconstruction Tippett had in October wasn’t a career-ending injury, Swans football manager Tom Harley has been able to negotiate a reduced figure on his payout. “We won’t have to carry his salary for the full term of his three years remaining,” Harley told SEN radio. “He was contracted for three years prior to that so it certainly won’t be that.” Had it been a career-ending injury, Sydney would have been forced to pay Tippett the full amount of his contract over the next three years. “Injuries have played a part in his decision,” Harley said. “He had a full ankle reconstruction last year. There are strict definitions around what constitutes career-ending injuries. It means you aren’t able to play and that isn’t what’s happened to Kurt.” https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/s...d/news-story/f9d9a94c8540b7746b6fc77b5abd85fe
  8. No salary for 2020 and 2021. Very strange to say the least. If it wasn't the Bulldogs who generally play well in the morality area I would be suspicious.
  9. https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-05-16/comment-was-the-dogs-tom-boyd-megadeal-worth-it https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-05-16/bulldogs-flag-hero-boyd-announces-shock-retirement-at-just-23 WESTERN Bulldogs premiership hero and former No.1 pick Tom Boyd has announced his shock retirement from the game. The Dogs confirmed on Thursday that the key forward will leave the game effective immediately due to the physical and emotional toll of AFL football.
  10. underwater?
  11. so it's a maximum rule and not a minimum rule.... just shows how ill thought out these rules were. A decent trial in other comps would have revealed the various quirks. It also underscores how far coaches will go to "game" the rules
  12. Interesting that so much money is being poured into a stadium that is only used 8 odd times a year. You would think that someone would be insisting it be used more. BTW... Corio which includes the metropolis of Geelong is considered federal Labour's safest non metropolitan seat.
  13. That one went well if I remember correctly. Luckily there have been so many huge losses by MFC that I am able to merge them into my collective forgetfulness. Would like Friday to be a night to remember but not counting on it.
  14. Foxtel published its take up rate for Kayo over the weekend. It is 209,000 subscribers. Not sure if this included the free trial subscribers. Having now returned from overseas where I used it extensively I have hot a bit of a hurdle with low broadband speed but with luck the mythical nbn should be in my area by the end of the year. My main complaint would be that the channel 7 feed does take away from the value proposition. On the other hand the F1 with the Sky racing feed is great (if only the races were more exciting.) Game of thrones finishes next week which does not leave many must see cable programs on Foxtel. On the present Kayo subscription level that is revenue of $60M per annum which is clearly not enough for sustainability without cross subsidisation.
  15. we're now ten odd games into the season and other than the first bulldogs game I haven't seen much evidence of promotion or word of mouth excitement about the product. With the latest movie one would have expected some cross promotion but if it was there it slipped by my radar. Don't disagree but it could simply be brand awareness just like any other company.
  16. sounds a bit like our gameplan... absolute chaos
  17. Interesting thought and perhaps deserves a separate thread but why do you think that giving naming rights for Docklands stadium to Disney is any different to Etihad, Telstra or Colonial Mutual who were the previous holders of the naming rights.
  18. South Melbourne played at the Lake Oval which is within the Albert Park precinct. I's now called Lakeside Stadium. "Lakeside Stadium is a sports arena in Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia. Comprising an athletics track and soccer stadium, it currently serves as the home ground and administrative base for the South Melbourne FC, Athletics Victoria, Athletics Australia, Victorian Institute of Sport and Australian Little Athletics. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakeside_Stadium
  19. Why would clubs "bid" for a licence in a competition that they already own? This isn't the IPL. Somewhere in this comp there might be a game of sorts but the marketers are being let run wild
  20. With the kayo product delivering only sports there is no need for Foxtel to regard sports as a loss leader to get subscribers to sign up for the more expensive packages. The math is relatively simple $300 per year per subscriber. Maximum subscribers 1.5 million ( think I'm generous) but let's say 3 million. That makes a little under a billion in total each year from which you need to deduct operating costs and profit before you come up with the money left for rights. The present AFL deal is around $400M per year and the NRL around $250M. Add in cricket and you are at the end of the pot before they pay for the remaining sports. Sure Foxtel doesn't pay 100% of these rights fee but it pays a very sizeable chunk. Of course Netflix etc could come along with a killer offer but they are around $15 a month at present so I can't see the return for those companies and they have no need to loss lead. Then again you might get a company like Uber that just pours money at the so called future without regard to profits in the short-medium term. Getting back to Sam... he'll be paid what he's worth.
  21. In theory Binman percentage already provides the incentive but I see where you are coming from. Many sports now have the bonus point concept. I would be happy to see it trialed at other levels but as you point out there are some issues. For example would you give bonus point to the losing team if they also score over the required minimum. It's certainly worth some further thought.
  22. I think this is different to the training facility. All of the clubs seem to have these medical foundations or the like attached to them. You may have noticed a club email earlier in the season from MFC about pledging a dollar amount for each win. The donation went to a "research" ? or similar arm of the MFC which made the donation tax deductible. My cynicism tells me it's a way of getting around some aspects of the soft salary cap but I could be wrong.
  23. he didn't play against the Bombers but if he did play this week... even for a half that would be great. Haven't heard about Hannan This weeks game is against Port Melbourne who are a non aligned team which generally means that their across the board team strength is quite high.
  24. If Weideman is unavailable for Casey and they take two travelling emergencies to Perth the AFL listed players available for Casey will be around 5. In theory the emergencies could take the red eye back to Melbourne and be available for Casey on Saturday at 2pm. Not ideal but possible. Had a look at the league wide injury lists and many clubs have long lists. Collingwood was near ours in number for example. I realise it all about who is out and for how long but the quality of our depth which has been a problem for years is really showing.
  25. I love some high brow reading early in the day: "Adopting Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of capital, field and habitus along with Loïc Wacquant’s understanding of neoliberalism as the reengineering and redeployment of the state,I illustrate the use of elite sport as a form of cultural glue to re-regulate the city in favourof market-like mechanisms thatbenefit the urban and political elite. The Victorian state has successively re-regulated this neoliberal urban entrepreneurial strategy, often preventing dissident groups from resisting neoliberal activities, through its monopoly over the legitimate use of symbolic and material violence."
