2019 Player Reviews: #14 Michael Hibberd
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Many thanks Andy. Over the years I have found that for a lesser team such as ours you get more insight from this forum than you could possibly hope for from either the mass media or the club itself. Such a wonderful resource. That vote tells me that on more than one occasion we thought him in our top 6 at least so the season was not a complete loss for Hibberd. -
2019 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Both he and Gawn could be so more damaging. They are generational players. Up to the coaching staff to maximise their impact. In the back half of the year I would have liked to see Oliver being played as an outside mid simply to improve his kicking and awareness. The game results were irrelevant and most were losses anyway so not sure why there was not more thinking towards 2020. -
2019 Player Reviews: #14 Michael Hibberd
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The gameplan adopted by Goodwin does not favour aging players no matter what their skill level may be. The only positive is that the form drop off in 2019 was so precipitous that it may have been one of those aberrations we talk about. Not sure we have the players to cover him and could explain why we kept Josh Wagner on the list. PS: these reviews would be fascinating if the players performance could also be correlated with Joeboy's great weekly player commentary and of course our own Demonland rankings. For instance did Hibberd ever feature in our top 6 players in any match etc. -
Time for the MFC to grow a pair and take a risk.

Someone will take him in the PSD. Not us as we already have our own injury trio in AVB, KK and J Smith. Murray on the other hand could be worth a look but at it's simplest he sounds like another Hunt (fast and eratic) and that isn't looking good. Happy to leave that decision to our wonderful football department. -
Could have taken us apart single handed in that 2018 final if he'd kicked straight but I do agree his 2019 season wasn't that great. If the price and contract term(2 years at most) were right we'd have to think very hard though.

5 and 9 for 3... Would you also be interested in a second hand set of jousting sticks?

Someone posted on this recently. Not sure that with the rules re academy players etc that the draft impact is that great. Sure it's an impact but nowhere near as compromised as when GWS and GCS were raiding the player lists.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz are we there yet mum???????

As an aside whatever happened with the South Australian guns from the 2018 draft that the SA clubs said they would poach in 2020? Did they end up being drafted to SA or are they waiting to come home next year? Thanks

and how do you better the inevitable offer from North of X million a year for life !!

Jon Ralph says Demons are effectively a basket-case team
Diamond_Jim replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry Binman but the "we have a stable board" reminds me of some comedy line but I can't quite put my finger on it. -
According to Mahoney Preuss' name had been mentioned but no details. I assume we would not stand in his way of getting a position as first ruck if it was offered. (Not saying it was,)
-
Have you ever considered a role in real estate?
-
Looking forward to the gameplan discussion on the main board over the quiet of the summer months.

Buddy's done for. Maybe good for 40 goals if he could get on the park and had good delivery. At best that would happen for 2020. More likely 12 games and 10-20 goals. His one remaining weapon is his ability to kick a goal from 55. Sad because he is a great player and if it wasn't for that ridiculous contract the Swans have he would have retired and assumed his place among the media in 2020.
-
nope...it would be like bringing back Mark Jackson.... a real circus and we would end up a laughing stock
-
Must have missed it though I did go to 3 or 4 Casey games in the second half of the season. 11goals for a season where he played 21 games... nothing wonderful. Not saying it didn't happen but "incredible"smacks of hyperbole. Good luck next year
-
O no.... please tell me we are getting a decent gameplan and not the failed crash and bang of the last few years
-
Thanks....I thought the same thing but as I had never herd the term before it interested me. Would also be useful if they listed things like left or right footed and my favourite.... can kick both feet and turn both ways.

I am the first to admit that I'm against splitting the pick but after having a look at the positions played by the top 15 picks in the Power rankings I am coming around to it. I assume we are in desperate need of an outside mid. Other than the touted pick1the next player described as an outside mid is Trent Bianco who is ranked 14. (Sounds okay but might be too short at 178cm given the number of small players we have at Casey presently) By the way what in the hell is a "balanced midfielder" as I notice there's a couple of those

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
Diamond_Jim replied to olisik's topic in Melbourne Demons
Taylor looks like someone who is worth a punt -
understand but if you do a no lose trade then you keep your options open for the other delists whom we don't know about. Is he actually "delisted" as at today? I assume he has just been informed that no contract will be offered as formally his contract runs for a few weeks yet.

Okay.. playing the game when do you tell GWS that you will bid on Green. Mind game wise is it better for them to know and force them to deal or do you leave it unsaid. Strikes me that it requires a player trade from GWS so no good waiting for the night and trading picks etc. My recommendation is that we tell them Green is being actively considered...leaves wiggle room but forces GWS' hand. Caveat.... I have no view as to whether Green is the next best thing after the two top picks but if he clearly is... let's go all out.

For anyone interested here are the 2019 rules for drafting academy players. Similar rules apply for Father/Son Academy Players RuleOn Thursday, 31 October 2019, by 2pm eligible clubs must lodge with the AFL a list of draft-eligible Academy Players it wishes to consider for inclusion on its Primary List or Rookie List. At the National Draft meeting in conjunction with Father-Son bidding nominations, each Club may “bid” for the player. If matched by the Academy Club, the Academy Club will forfeit one or more subsequent selections, to the value of the points required to match the bid. If the Academy Club declines to match the bid, the club with the successful bid uses the selection to secure the player.
