  1. yes... but they don't count and they'll probably play him in the ruck like they did for the practice matches.
  2. Jackson didn't look like scoring last week.... amazing
  3. Brayshaw in those late games of 2018.... but alas not very often and of course White with his twenty metre hits forward Hawks v Tigers tonight ... no dedicated rucks
  4. Hore's already out for 6 weeks with a broken toe after someone stood on it PS.. Ah a fresh injury a la Preuss
  5. Melbourne have pretty well had dominant ruckmen since the Northey days but it has rarely done us much good. The position is an anachronism and is now almost solely judged on round the ground play. I think it is a symptom of the overall crowding of the game where effective clearances are becoming increasingly rare
  6. pencil or pen ? Each season I do a sheet on the computer and update it for each game I attend. After they increased the price of the record from a shilling I stopped buying it.
  7. well argued except that it is the AFL and anything that upsets Collingwood is welcomed by 90% of supporters ?
  8. Bit like the player numbers and the Footy record. Belongs to another era
  9. must say I am tired of this practice. May as well announce the Sunday teams on Friday. The Thursday announcements are a hangover from the old days and are really irrelevant except that the AFL is so reluctant to release any of its media space. It's strange that the teams are announced with such fanfare on Thursday and then the final teams are a deeply hidden postscript. Mind you it could also be that we seem to perennially play on a Sunday.
  10. Fair comment perhaps from European fans.... We have significant concerns regarding attempts by broadcasters to replace or imitate the unique atmosphere produced by fans. Augmented reality technology, pre-recorded chants, and other forms of artificial support represent a rebuke to match-going fans. The absence of fans cannot be compensated for by a computer simulation aimed at the amusement of television audiences. an alliance of fans from 16 countries around Europe from launching a campaign against fake crowd noise. On a stranger note the English League 2 have embraced not only the cardboard cut out concept but have encouraged fakes. Trump and Boris will be in attendance !! https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/17/shaq-oneal-donald-trump-cutouts-league-two-play-offs-northampton-cheltenham-exeter
  11. I can live with the money although five years was perhaps excessive but the draft picks....grrrr Much the same can be said about May Anyway ... we will know the answers by seasons end
  12. we were paying on potential..... and............... Those two first round draft picks though
  13. There's an overhead camera and two behind the goal cameras that are constantly on In these days of streaming it's not too much to have those angles available on replay for anyone who wants to watch them. The revenue model could be designed but I doubt that the cost would be more than six hours of techo time per match plus the platform app itself. Dare I say the clubs could do it free for members this year in lieu of their wasted memberships.
  14. I was very much against the closure of the borders but now that some states are virus free they may as well stay closed and do an NZ by removing all social distancing. This gives them a significant economic lift which is probably equal to opening the borders in the form of back to work school, transport etc etc The novelty of going to the football and sitting six seats apart will soon wear off
  15. he has another year on his contract ...end 2021
  16. sounds drastic to say the least Good luck but...... (the message needs to be improved.. there's a chance here if they can get it right....whatever right is)
  17. it's Sydney not those other exotic destinations that have closed their gates to the Victorian marauders
  18. interesting
  19. stoppages are what 2020 seems to be about soif you are right we are in trouble. Norf beat GWS one of the best outside midfields we have seen by stoppages, playing the boundary and scragging.
  20. 2020 has longer gamebreaks between goals which tends to skew the numbers as well.
  21. Is it? 21 in the four years under him but 37 in the previous four years. Mind you neither period was flash and there is little question that Goodwin has a superior list to the 2012 to 2015 period. Call it what you will there is no evidence to suggest that this game plan overall is more successful than others. 2018 is held up as the golden example but there were a lot of blowout wins that year. The games won factor was not spectacular (although better than our usual) and of course we failed mainly against the better teams.
  22. While talking about one of the players who was playing on the wing the comment is made that the game was played mainly up the centre. Have not been in favour of penalties for the ball going out of bounds but perhaps its time to discourage the boundary line play (Norf did it non stop against GWS) by penalising the last substantive play.
  23. Wonderful stat....... can we have that stat since Goodwin coached please. The median is Richmond at 31... we are nearly double Plot all those on a bell curve and we are off the scale............... depressing
  24. you could take four clubs out and the media would still be very happy. Three from Melbourne and GCS for example. You just allocate Port and Freo an isolation/newcomer subsidy or similar. Enough to get them over the line but not GCS. So easy to get the desired results if the AFL sets the rules.
