  1. The R factor is a little illusory but in simple terms it's a measure of infection progression. If Victoria had a R factor of 1.5 we would be in big trouble in a short while. At an R rate of 1.1 a thousand cases becomes 25000 cases in 60 days https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/05/covid-19-what-is-the-r-number/ By lockdowns you depress the R rate simply by limiting the exposure each infected person has to others. Without lockdowns the R rate of this virus is estimated to be between 2-2.5 and by some as high as 6.(enormous numbers) BTW measles has a R rate much higher than this virus but vaccines prevent infection. Stay safe all.
  2. Round 4 2018 115 -48 Marks the start of Is Goodwin the right guy thread
  3. Another low scoring game. It was wet so a slight excuse but the absolute dominance of defences and the seemingly constant out of bounds is so boring. Add to that the commentary that can even get excited over a rolling maul and........
  4. US$250 for the biovyzr with built in air purifier...Weird
  5. No Brown... not a good selection
  6. Must say I'm not sure that the season needs to be rushed. We have hubs and we have a relatively clear way forward. Rolling byes and games every night just kill season momentum from a fan perspective I can see the advantages of shortening times in the hubs but it's starting to resemble a desperation run rather than being simply agile. GF clashes with the Cox Plate etc are largely irrelevant as the GF will be played at night/twilight interstate and the Cox Plate can be run earlier if needed as the Asian racetracks will probably be shut.(Whether the good horses will come is also questionable.) There's some promising news on vaccines in the Age. They have found the T cell.... (fingers crossed.)
  7. If I was Tassie I would be a little upset about paying Govt money for those two matches. Would have expected games between Melb teams this year
  8. it was a round robin.... that will fly again
  9. I think Bombers and us will get a limited bye and they will use the period to squeeze in another game for us. Too dangerous to have a single game standing alone as the season progresses.
  10. ??? My reference was to AVB... never mentioned ANB
  11. AVB's tackling was good but his subsequent disposal was more often than not poor. That aside I think he might be okay against the slower hawks in preventing the easy chip out of the forward line. We all have nightmares about the first Hawks game in 2018. The one in the finals was more pleasant but remember Gunston kicked 2:4 or similar.
  12. Both Daniher and Essendon lost out badly by his trade to the Swans not going through. I feel very sorry for one of them. AFL contracts are very limited in what can be included re fitness, games played etc so I don't see many clubs prepared to take the risk. MFC would be mad to risk much. Strangely enough Daniher may be best to take a one year contract at say $300k in the hope of proving his fitness and then he can demand the mega contract.
  13. In all probability the other States (bar NSW ) will not open up to Victoria for a long while. Get ready for cricket to abandon Victoria. I know they have said the tennis will be in Melbourne but they will be tempted to move it north or west if the money is right. The "New Normal" sucks
  14. my stomach is turning.......... Palaszczuk said: I stress none of these measures can happen without strict quarantine protocols and the COVID management plan that has allowed the AFL season to proceed. This is another way Queensland is helping Victoria. As everyone knows, AFL is more than a sport to Victorians. We know how they feel. Given the choice between not having a season and having it based in Queensland, I think I know what the fans would like to happen. It means more Queenslanders can see more games. It’s another tick for the legacy of the Commonwealth Games and the Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium. It’s more fire in the belly for the Suns and the Lions. And, as I told Gil, if the season is based here — then the Grand Final should be played here too! Negotiations between the NRL and the Chief Health Officer are continuing. The health and safety of Queenslanders must always come first.
  15. Can't say I can remember him playing forward. The "other" Smith and Weid were generally the talls. TBH he was injured so often I'm not sure how many Casey games he played. (from his Wikipedia listing it looks like around 15-20 tops.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Smith_(footballer,_born_1996)
  16. My guess is they are already crunching the numbers on moving out of NSW in the next 24 hours. Much easier to locate everyone in Qld and then if you really want games in Sydney fifo on same day. SA just announced they would not be opening borders to NSW residents next week as previously planned.
  17. Not many players really crunched their game against the Suns but each probably did enough to go round again. Melksham and Lockhart would be the two I would look at but I would be fine if they stayed. Would be looking for a greater contribution from AVB. I thought Brayshaw showed touches of class.... If we are playing Salem on the wing we need a good kick on the backline. Is Rivers as a replacement for Lockhart that person? (I'm not sure.)
  18. in these days of lockdown I think it does. Strangely enough this year the "big" game is probably Thursday night PS... Was anyone not at the Cross Roads hotel? Must be a big pub
  19. Do the teams still fly in and out on the same day?
  20. 5 out of the 9 games are now night games. No matter how bad we are there are enough to go around. Seriously a night time win over the Hawks would be great for our future prospects. The next two against Sydney and GWS will probably be low rating fixtures win lose or draw PS.... I see we got Brisbane in a 6pm Sunday game... at least that's a start
  21. Although the Sydney numbers are small one more week of similar numbers and Qld will slam the gates. (It's an election year up there.)
  22. Given that there are now night games Thursday to Monday inclusive is it too much for our sponsors to expect some night time FTA cover. Another Sunday afternoon game I think against the Hawks... grrrrrr
  23. Heart breaking last lap for Dan....but a good race especially as I have become used to ignoring the usual front runner. (Credit though to his drive in qualifying.)
  24. mathematically without finals he can't make 300. Would prefer to see Sparrow etc trialled. Same unfortunately for Jetta I expect.
  25. Think they may try and take the game on a little more but there is no doubt that they will pack our fifty metre area and then quickly precision kick out. The gameplan needs a scalpel approach to our foward fifty entries rather than the usual sledgehammer. Would be nice to have a 55 metre goal kicker.
