  1. modern training facility two full size ovals indoor training complex gym and pool when was the last time you visited Glenferrie oval? Richmond will be the next to move
  2. new game plan against the power clubs might help. Sounds like they have no idea
  3. does that include away games against Melbourne clubs ?
  4. They will but the community benefit coming from upgrading an exclusive facility for an elite sporting club in South Yarra is very low. If we can mount a case for community benefit well and good but I just cannot see it.
  5. Many of these assistant coaches would in normal times find jobs with private schools and community leagues but I cannot see that happening. Horrible times
  6. Geelong could potentially get 8 games at Kardinia Park. Massive home ground advantage which no other club will get. As to travel there are eight interstate teams which will mean each Melbourne based team should travel 4 times. (Assuming home and away games against interstate teams are evenly spread. You could in theory have a team such as Collingwood play all interstate teams as their home games and the Melbourne based teams as away games...But of course the AFL would not allow that.) Where it gets complicated is if Hawks and North play in Tasmania and of course who draws the short straw of going to Darwin to play the Suns. No reason that the big Melbourne clubs should not travel to Tasmania and/or Darwin but we know that wont happen. Finally there's our game in Alice Springs to think about.
  7. Interesting. In a post that seems years ago I said that 8 wins would see him safe for 2021. That of course assumed a 22 game season so 7 wins in a 17 game season is a fair call. I have little confidence in either the gameplan or our player development. Would love to be proved wrong because if we go 0-3 the interest in the season will drop to near zero for many of us.
  8. let's face it....this is the new normal embrace it
  9. when is pay tv going to wake up to alternative camera and commentary streams. They had it in the cricket (eagle eye or similar) so why not the football. A fixed camera behind both goals for you to select from. Should be almost zero costs as the camera is unmanned and the streaming cost is negligible. Alternative commentaries come at a cost but frankly I'd prefer work experience kids to Bruce and his "special" !!
  10. NRL are about to sign a new broadcasting deal. Around $2 billion. Interesting: It's almost the same dollar value as the present deal : Channel 9 have a right to exit in 2022. Foxtel is the pay TV broadcaster until 2027;and No details on digital rights which increasingly is where the money is (Kayo etc)
  11. So if SA teams stay for their inter club match for round 2 the logical thing would be for WA teams to do the same. Add in Sydney and Qld teams in their respective states. Seems to be logical and gives everyone the same lead in and start to the season. Now I will absolutely dummy spit if we end up playing Geelong at Kardinia Park in round 2.
  12. never say never but I think we can rule out 50k people at the Adelaide Oval come October.
  13. Missed the story on the K league dolls.... what can one say
  14. The Bundesliga which started last weekend had a choice where you could have crowd noise as an option. Apparently the majority chose no crowd noise. More importantly I don't need the commentators at their usual overhyped selves. Time to just describe the play and let us get involved. I think Moonshadows idea of your favourite soundtrack has merit. Whenever Oscar has the ball I could have Jaws
  15. the partial refund includes an element of club support being maintained. It does not give the dollar difference if any to the Club between that option and the full membership component. If you elect to continue as is (full membership) you get a sweetener of "your choice of AFL member pack" up to a potential value of $250 (no idea what that really means) and 30% off my 2021 membership. I think they are fair offers but the perhaps cancellation of membership is over the top.
  16. AFL just sent an email offering 3 choices in relation to AFL memberships and the 2020 season. No refund Partial refund Full refund The sting is that in asking for a full refund your AFL membership will be cancelled. The other two offers are reasonable and provide discounts for 2021. Fair enough but the cancellation of membership and back on the waiting list etc is perhaps a little too far. Will be interesting to see what MFC and MCC come up with.
  17. Qld are already allowing NRL teams to criss cross borders so I would expect it to be no different for AFL teams. Another interesting question is who will be required to travel to Sydney in the first four weeks?
  18. some of us just see another group of decent players being squandered fascinating concept... definitely something in that
  19. There were lots of reasons but Richmond becoming a co tenant was definitely a factor. You have to understand that for every teams followers their game at the MCG against the MFC was a must attend simply because of the luxury of a family day out being seated at a football game in comfort. By comparison the other suburban grounds were literal hellholes with few seats and standing room where going to the toilet was often done in a beer can or at a public toilet where the run off was... (well you can imagine). When Richmond joined we lost that natural advantage and were no longer special.
  20. Crows and Port want to defer their "derby" until the end of the season just in case they are allowed to play in front of crowds in Adelaide. I expect the two WA clubs would argue for the same. Gil should tell them where to go imo. Source: Port director of football on 3aw last night.
  21. Not sure that the AFL really listen to him anymore. He's been blowing hot air for so long now most would know his agenda. Big difference to when the footy show was top of the ratings and he was Eddie everywhere. His reputation took a deserved beating over the Goodes affair, He's good for a newspaper headline in the tabloids but Collingwood have marked time financially for a while now. Mind you by comparison to the MFC they aren't doing badly but if you put them up against the interstate power houses of Adelaide and WCE they are falling behind. In a perverse way the lesser clubs could do okay this season if they are given decent TV exposure because they have the least to lose from crowd receipts not to mention membership refunds.
  22. Interesting that no player has returned a positive result (does that mean they never had it as well). I'm interested in the concept of random sampling and AFL players are a good random cross section of the young population
  23. Lets be honest, fans would watch the two proverbial flies crawling up the wall but no the inherent bias comes naturally to the fore. Hawks and Bombers must be upset... the rest of us.....we know our place as do our sponsors MFC... Sunday arvo game ??
