TEAMS: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
One of the best scoring quarter with 7 goals. 10 4 to 5.2 Spargo and a sprinkle around Colingwood struggling to hold on Melbourne with a sniff hard to hold. Hope it looks as good as Whitey is saying

Thanks for making me think about this a bit more. i guess I see Gus complements Oliver. Viney complements Oliver. Gus and Viney don't complement each other as both work best in the same position, but they do it differently. and your right Gus breaks away more where Viney is in the struggle.

You're right Viney is more crash and bash. Bradshaw is more skilled at getting through the pack, can avoid tackles and stays upright while Viney bulldozes through. And yes Bradshaw is able to get it on the outside while Viney does not seem to. The point of similarity is they both are most effective in tight in the pack and can get the ball out, but Gus is probably more sophisticated.

What they're saying down at Lulie Street
Oliver is the pinball wizard. Gets plenty of hard ball and loose ball with his quick reflexes. Doesn't always damage with his disposal and goes unnoticed coz he doesn't hold the ball long quick disposal his forte. Often the one two tree four links are lost at another point in the trail so not as damaging. He also doesn't shepherd and jogs off the ball so can allow space for opponents.Nouestioning his work rate which is consistently forged in the boiler house but he gets no release with umpire protection so can fatigue and be less effective. Love him and when he is on we are a lot better. The coach should use him as a barometer. When he's good he's very good when he's off he should be taken off and rested.

Brayshaw amnd Viney both play a similar style of see ball, get ball, hit the pack hard with timing to be where the ball is and give off quickly. They both have disposal issues, poor kicks because they are usually under immense pressure or off balance. But both usually seem to get the ball deeper into the forward line. Unfortunately this is often in between our attacking forwards and our deeper forwards. Oliver is a little more static an quick with disposal better vision although still prone to dispose to an unprepared teammate. His disposal appears a little shorter and often involves return and pinball type movement with an uncertain release point. Trac combines the bullocky attack and also the release point as he spins and uses strength to get out. Seems to play a little more outside, Seems to now be a little more balanced when he releases making him more effective. All other midfielders play a role as participant with these main ball getters and can be included or released when available. All midfielders need to try and create space for eventual release. Tackling and bumping opposition, or shepherding teammates to allow space and improve the disposal on release. Forward delivery is affected by forwards pressing too close or being too deep for the eventual release which varies according to the midfielder who effects it. All the players are valuable, all have skill and all are elite level. The coach needs to use them individually and in tandem in structures and patterns that utilise their skills. They maybe all don't play play every minute or even every game, they play when the opposition structures or patterns dictate or when injury impacts ability. We are well placed and should not be even discussing losing any of them they are all young and can form the nucleus with Gawn and others the mid field that can give prolonged success.

NO! NO! NNNOOOO! Not ...we can almost............WE CAN....MUST..........win all of these....... Same reasons ..........and a Grand final. If the coach hasn't got the players that realise this season is there for the take Ng and we have a squad to continue for the next few years. We have to prise the window open but it is definitely there for us. GO DEES

Would be a different statement if the umpires could remember that the head is sacrosanct. Although the tribunal handling of T Lynch did not support that. Watching other games(we get so little FTA here of MFC games) I never see so many high tackles paid or missed as I do with us. Maybe we play in a fashion that attracts that tackle. The club should ask the umpires board if we are doing something wrong to not receive protection of our heads. Could also ask about tackling outcomes as well. We are often penalised for holding but rarely receive frees for incorrect disposal when we tackle, should we change our techniques of disposal and tackling. Perhaps you would need to know how the umpires are going to act on any given night but like your opponents you can factor in their behaviour and adjust your actions.

CHANGES: Rd 12 vs Collingwood
Yeah I know it's opposite of what I said but I'd be inclined to keep Jones. He may be slow in the legs but gets to better positions more often. Maybe he thinks a bit faster than others. He certainly should think that he owes the Pies and should remind his teammates of that often and quickly.
