2020 Player Reviews: #2 Nathan Jones
I hope that Jones does earn his spot as you suggest. It is important that he reaches the 300 game milestone a significant record, and an indication to upcoming players that there are long term rewards for players who give their all every game. I would not be opposed to him being named and suffering a late injury and being replaced athe last minute by an emergency which I believe still counts as a game. That said there is no doubt Jones should be able to be included for 6 games against appropriate opposition. I am sure his teammates would welcome playing with the legend and adding more wins to his record. It would be unfortunate if Jones who has certainly put his body on the line when our team was uncompetitive was unable to enjoy the success that the current group are capable of. While he has had limited abilities compared to other giants of the game Jones has towered above many for his endurance and loyalty. His endeavour could never be questioned and he has a legacy of individual highlights that many will never match. Jones has been a very worthy member of the Melbourne football club.Lets celebrate with him

I should say that the "valued at" is the cost foregone when the house is filled.. We often get couples from NSWmeeting someone from Melbourne While offered to 2 can probably negotiate for a family of demons.

Thanks Bobby. I probably underrated him, I was more impressed by his endurance.i

TMac on the Trade Table?
One of TMacs features as both defender and forward was his endurance. This seemed to be affected by his foot injury? or the change to body shape? His disposal on backline was always seen as frightening, but his initial accuracy as a forward was outstanding. So his complexity and ability to change has already been evidenced. My question is , is the foot ? Injury? addressed and solved, is his body type? muscle type ? Whatever stable? can he regain his running ability. We have seen the value of Langdon on th wing, not a speedster but able to run and link. Could TMac be the link on the other side. can run into forward line and add an option and fade back to add an extra body. Big for a winger but perhaps can be that variable point of difference with our team reminiscent of the Tigers centre line Burke Barrot and Clay who were all tall, ran all day and revolutionised the way the game was played.

$peaking of Money, Cash & coins, Irradiate our Money.
I recall during the Ads crisis (can anyone remember that), which was a blood borne transmission, that it was pointed out to me that the greatest spreader of disease was cash. especially men who wipe, sneeze, blow nose into a cloth and stuff it into their pockry, conveniently located near their body(groin) which is maintained at a perfect temperature for incubating any virus. Money is then put into the pocket to pick up any stray remnants of anything that may be surviving. Like the argument that peanut bowls on pub counters contain overwhelming traces of urine from men who fail to wash their hands appropriately after visiting the toilet this may be an apocryphal tale, but it is just another indication of the complicated risks that life throws at our human face.

Trump v. Biden
Macca , I have just caught up with this thread and found your analysis fantastic , and now with hindsight very accurate. i will watch your comments with much more interest. Hope you can analyse the MFC as accurately.

Isaac Smith
We have a good squad allready. WE NEED SOME PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO WIN! Smith and Yze could be a good combination.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
I think that applies to most of our squad. We need an intensity coach to analyse and apply that feature to our players.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
He's 24, should come cheap, knows the systems and fellow defenders, provides useful backup for injury or just selection rotation. He does have some abysmal games and like the rest of the side is inconsistent, but he has played some games where the back line was on top. He can kick well and I was always surprised that he did not kick out more often.Perhaps that is a role that he could be given to concentrate on while playing in the twos while waiting to be played when the opposition structure requires.

Improving from Within
Fritsch always seems to be in or lead to the wrong pocket. From the right field position for a left foot kick he seems more accurate.

Improving from Within
I'd like to add shepherding. This creates time and space and allows better decisions and delivery.

2020 Keith "Bluey" Truscott Trophy
Absolutely agree with the sentiments of this post. The voting shows the talent that exists in the squad. However it may also show how thin our next tier of players are.. i would have thought Pruess would get some votes for his few games and others who played back up or support roles would also get votes. An even spread i across the whole squad would be interesting. Also the votes being given by coaches may be biased as for instance Pruess might be overvalued due to his stepping up and performing a role in lieu of Max. Voting is subjective and so I'm not going to be critical of any thoughts. I do believe there is a lot of underachievement and the coach must address this. The passion of most on Dland is exactly what seems to Be lacking. I understand that to achieve and maintain the passion and skill level to perform week after week is extremely difficult and it is the coaches job to monitor and recognise who is going to perform on the day. It is obvious we got this wrong on too many occasions. The coaches need to take a good hard look at their performance.

CHANGES: Rd 18 vs Essendon
Agree totally. LJ and Weid are future and showed already they worked well together. Weid is young and has been overworked could do with a rest. Brown with his incentive and T Mac playing for survival should be told to work had and kick straight. Team told that they must win by 150 or it's a fail. Rest of the team selected from squad for reasons of survival or rested for future long term or short term. If the Bradbury happens LJ and Weid bought in for finals experience with other young squad. Anything can happen in finals and selection and game plans are critical. We have got it wrong all season despite having the best opportunities for years. This has been an abysmal season of lost opportunities and the coach is a real problem as he has ultimate responsibility. We have had a fitter and better credentialed squad with a better mix of age and experience which should form a base for next ten years. Failure to use the flexibility of the squad rests with the coach. He needs to explain his season to the members through a transparent external review process.

Shorter Qtrs & 28 Rounds in 2021?
I worked in health industry for 30 years and agree it's not easy. Not sure of case logistics as it is down to severity and location of the cases. I am in the most vulnerable age cohort so appreciate the concerns of contact that lockdowns have represented, and await the impact of weather conditions. Europe heading to winter while we head to summer will be interesting development that may affect data . when I was in the industry we had a seperate infectious disease site and a distributed health service which had capacity .Many regions still have capacity but the specialisation support has been reduced.. My concern is to make it through this event and witness a Demon premiership. I was too young to appreciate the halcyon years.

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs Sydney
I understand all you say and agree with all but point 2. The current list has enough depth and variation that we should be a successful finals club. That we lost to Brisbane and Geelong by less than a kick, shows we can be. Port was similar to Dgs and Sydney where the players just did not participate for 100%. Richmond and West Coast were contests we lost that should be analysed to replace the players or structures that failed. We needto use the total squad at the appropriate time, and have a variety of structures and game practices to match our opponents. Goodwin may still be able to retain his base game plan and be flexible enough with selection and game day tactics to salvage the season, some of that may well be reliant on a culture change, indeed may bring about the cultural change, but I believe you are correct that without that cultural change the club will slowly bleed and lose valuable members, who, as this site recognises have much to offer.

It's fantastic that AFL and FTA partners consider Melbourne supporters are again more interested in 4.00 News and The Chase on 7 Medical Emergency, Storage Wars, American Pickers on 7-2 or Graveyard Cars andBargain Hunt on 7Mate. Wouldnt want to interrupt this essential viewing with a game unwatched by demon fans. Of course everyone knows that Melbourne Football club members and supporters all watch their game on pay TV, sipping their whisky with their feet up in the ski lodge they drove to in their Jaguar. Im missing the skiing but would have been able to interrupt the outdoor physical activity to watch it in the bar of Zirkys in any normal season. It's back to the radio coverage here as of course no outlets (pubs)in our regional areas are open for business with the now luxury of any pay tv options. Oh well at least we'll get to see them on TV on grand final day. Get there Dees

CHANGES: Rd 15 vs Sydney
This is where the coach shows his stuff. We need to win every game to the season end. Including Grand Final. So with that in mind we've use the whole squad as and when match ups needed, and structures require. Also player performance must be managed. We must make maintain our momentum and keep a winning philosophy. This will ensure confidence is at peak. Does Max play 9 games in a row or does he get rested and Pruess used at appropriate match to ensure he is cherry ripe for the games he plays. O Mac doesn't get a lot of love but the defence works well when he is in and the opposition has More talls. Lockhart Hore and Rivers could be used to ensure our key defenders are also cherry ripe. Maybe Lever, Salem, Hibberd etc is restedto carry peak form through the final series where match up required. Kozzie is inconsistent but could be the surprise element in a finals campaign, use him as an impact same as Bennell. Bennell, Spargo, Swallow , Bedford, Jones all play different styles but can be used against right opponents to maximise team result. Trac, Oliver, Viney,Bradshaw, and the whole midfield may be managed with same aim. The best team cherry ripe for each match It can be difficult (impossible) trying to predict the final makeup so changes will be on a match to match basis and don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves but all players should know they will be part of the season success if they play their role when required , to replace an injured or resting player. Everyone could be considered for finals depending on opponents.
