Agree totally. LJ and Weid are future and showed already they worked well together. Weid is young and has been overworked could do with a rest. Brown with his incentive and T Mac playing for survival should be told to work had and kick straight. Team told that they must win by 150 or it's a fail. Rest of the team selected from squad for reasons of survival or rested for future long term or short term. If the Bradbury happens LJ and Weid bought in for finals experience with other young squad. Anything can happen in finals and selection and game plans are critical. We have got it wrong all season despite having the best opportunities for years. This has been an abysmal season of lost opportunities and the coach is a real problem as he has ultimate responsibility. We have had a fitter and better credentialed squad with a better mix of age and experience which should form a base for next ten years. Failure to use the flexibility of the squad rests with the coach. He needs to explain his season to the members through a transparent external review process.

The innuendo willalways do you in the end though

I worked in health industry for 30 years and agree it's not easy. Not sure of case logistics as it is down to severity and location of the cases. I am in the most vulnerable age cohort so appreciate the concerns of contact that lockdowns have represented, and await the impact of weather conditions. Europe heading to winter while we head to summer will be interesting development that may affect data . when I was in the industry we had a seperate infectious disease site and a distributed health service which had capacity .Many regions still have capacity but the specialisation support has been reduced.. My concern is to make it through this event and witness a Demon premiership. I was too young to appreciate the halcyon years.

Well at half time. What could go wrong??? 1.3 to1.9 Am i in some parallel universe. Maybe I should go to SBS and the tour they month

Went all out. Roast pork, Cheese and Jim Jam relish toasted sandwiches with a Beechworth Estate Shiraz. Kayo, a healthy fire and what could go wrong? I hope to return at half time.

Look at the opposition, look at the desire and commitment of our players, select

I understand all you say and agree with all but point 2. The current list has enough depth and variation that we should be a successful finals club. That we lost to Brisbane and Geelong by less than a kick, shows we can be. Port was similar to Dgs and Sydney where the players just did not participate for 100%. Richmond and West Coast were contests we lost that should be analysed to replace the players or structures that failed. We needto use the total squad at the appropriate time, and have a variety of structures and game practices to match our opponents. Goodwin may still be able to retain his base game plan and be flexible enough with selection and game day tactics to salvage the season, some of that may well be reliant on a culture change, indeed may bring about the cultural change, but I believe you are correct that without that cultural change the club will slowly bleed and lose valuable members, who, as this site recognises have much to offer.

We certainly have to work hard for our kicks.Kicks

Yeah Kayo or AFL live pass are options. Just annoys me that we are always expected to pay while other clubs have superior FTA options.
-
It's fantastic that AFL and FTA partners consider Melbourne supporters are again more interested in 4.00 News and The Chase on 7 Medical Emergency, Storage Wars, American Pickers on 7-2 or Graveyard Cars andBargain Hunt on 7Mate. Wouldnt want to interrupt this essential viewing with a game unwatched by demon fans. Of course everyone knows that Melbourne Football club members and supporters all watch their game on pay TV, sipping their whisky with their feet up in the ski lodge they drove to in their Jaguar. Im missing the skiing but would have been able to interrupt the outdoor physical activity to watch it in the bar of Zirkys in any normal season. It's back to the radio coverage here as of course no outlets (pubs)in our regional areas are open for business with the now luxury of any pay tv options. Oh well at least we'll get to see them on TV on grand final day. Get there Dees

This is where the coach shows his stuff. We need to win every game to the season end. Including Grand Final. So with that in mind we've use the whole squad as and when match ups needed, and structures require. Also player performance must be managed. We must make maintain our momentum and keep a winning philosophy. This will ensure confidence is at peak. Does Max play 9 games in a row or does he get rested and Pruess used at appropriate match to ensure he is cherry ripe for the games he plays. O Mac doesn't get a lot of love but the defence works well when he is in and the opposition has More talls. Lockhart Hore and Rivers could be used to ensure our key defenders are also cherry ripe. Maybe Lever, Salem, Hibberd etc is restedto carry peak form through the final series where match up required. Kozzie is inconsistent but could be the surprise element in a finals campaign, use him as an impact same as Bennell. Bennell, Spargo, Swallow , Bedford, Jones all play different styles but can be used against right opponents to maximise team result. Trac, Oliver, Viney,Bradshaw, and the whole midfield may be managed with same aim. The best team cherry ripe for each match It can be difficult (impossible) trying to predict the final makeup so changes will be on a match to match basis and don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves but all players should know they will be part of the season success if they play their role when required , to replace an injured or resting player. Everyone could be considered for finals depending on opponents.

Well it use of the squad which I have been asking for. Just not sure if it's the right use at the right time. Goodwin needs a good win.
-
I have said previously that it's a fantastic source and find your comments well considered. I am reminded of the old "data is not information, information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, continuum" which confuses many arguments.
-
Well yes it's the old world example but the intention doesn't change. The need to inspire and motivate is still significant. We obviously don't spit n em and the authoritarian coach model redundant. teaches Teaching and reassuring must still motivate and inspire best performance and maximum effort. This is the most significant responsibility of the coach.
-
True, (but again as I have said perhaps too much) that's the coach's job. Make em inclined. I understand that familiarity may bred contempt and that message from the coach each game may not work it's why I suggested that a rev up from a Dland supporter may help. I recall sitting in a barber shop in Collingwood while Len Thompson was having a trim. He told the barber and the few customers that the worst thing about losing was that you couldn't get on a tram or run to training without being spat on by a Collingwood supporter. It gave added incentive to not be responsible for the loss.

Port Melb for me.

No demon I need the votes on Footy show 9

LNev I always regard your input highly but I have clicked like on many of those supporting. I don't resile from that despite agreeing with all the points you have made. However either yes or no would strongly require full and open disclosure of the total decision making process. We are unlikely to get that and so like you I don't think it's worth commenting further.
-
Yeah welcome aboard. Hoping to see plenty of you reporting on future victories and highlights for the next ten years, and then hope you don't have to experience another period like our last fifty ( my supporting lifetime).

Well I remember sitting at the MCG final where Essendon just thugged Fitzroy players. Quinlan, Sidebottom , Wilson,, didn't matter who they were they just attacked the player until they hold few left to actually contest. They couldn't catch one player whose name escapes me now. But it was the most disappointing game I ever saw no football just violence. -
That could have come from any good HR text with your personal interaction and football anecdotes proving the relevance. I reckon your right and I reckon it's still applies today. I just hope Goody understands it.

AoB this is the kernel of Chaos theory. The theory is a mathematical evolution from many different fields (commodity prices, electrical interference, meteorology) and was really fundamental through and for computer development. Pixels were a direct outcome of Ct mathematics. it is premised on patterns within apparently chaotic environments and with its own language of bifurcation and strange attractors held that the significant number was 6.34343 Or something similar. It had been proven in scientific circumstances and I presented a paper applying it to human resource practice. You may have stumbled on the genius of Goodwin in establishing a pattern exactly as you outline, resetting with the one wood. Only question is how does opposition fit into this theory, and my own abandonment of exploring further due to disgust with umpiring
-
I am also nterested in the analysis of umpiring decisions. Without discussing how I believe the umpiring affects confidence. The umpires may well be the "strange attractors" of Chaos theory.

I have found this thread fantastic, overwhelming in the intellectual content. i hope our opponents are not reading it as I believe it has exposed some very salient points. i also hope that there is similar examination of our opponents structures, patterns and actions, and that that analysis is handed on to the club. You have identified some specific individual and group weaknesses. I have not finished all the content but feel compelled to make some comments so apologise if I do repeat something that arises after p3. Many years ago I was overly examining Chaos theory. When our group went to the footy we often talked of what was the reason for MFC apparent lack of success. We talked of structures and personnel. Richmond eventually ievolved Chaos football after Footscray broke the Hawthorn Sydney structured models. We didn't have enough time or nclination to put the effort that contributors to this thread have done so congratulations. To return to the Chaos theory, I believe that you have identified the key feature of that theory there are patterns in Chaos. You need enough data a and sophisticated techniques to identify those patterns but they are there. You then need to recognise how to exploit those patterns. Consistency of action to establish bifurcation and create the expected outcome is what you have identified. i look forward to your continued data collection an analysis and hope there's is some aspiring younger generation who can undertake a Phd on this thread. But again I hope we are using this approach on our opponents to ensure we control the Chaos rather than react.
